I use Adobe Lightroom 4 to manage my photos. I had to reload my photos the other day. Today I was making changes in the data in my photos, when I finshed and saved the data I recevied a message that the photo was Read Only. Inless I get this resolved I will not be able to edit any of my prints.
View 4 RepliesI've had this problem for a while now. I'm using Windows 7.Most of the locations on my computer are set to read only. If I try to save something it usually doesn't work, unless I save it to my desktop, open the location I want to save it to in windows explorer, and move it there, at which point it will tell me that I need administrator permission to move the file there, and I have to click "allow." This affects a lot of my programs in various ways. Chrome stopped recording my internet history, (I assume because it can't save the history to whatever location it goes to), I can't use LifeFrame to record video or take pictures or anything like that, (again, I assume because the folder it saves to is in read only mode), and a lot of other stupid things.
If I right click and go to "Properties" and uncheck read only mode and then click ok, it doesn't work. If I go to properties again I can see that it hasn't changed.I looked on the internet somewhere and it said to use the command prompt to do something like "-r +s c:lahlahetc." I played around with that and it was also unhelpful. When I ran the command prompt normally, it told me that access was denied, and when I right-clicked and ran as administrator, it didn't give me an error message of any kind, but it still failed to change the folder from read only mode.
I am using the administrator account (which is the only account other than the Guest account I have set up).
Things I have tried:
1) Enabled hidden administrator logon and logged onto it.
2) Edited user permission for entire drive and set to 'full control'
3) verified the folder is not locked/in-use even deleted it and then restored
Still has the stupid 'read only' box checked when you hit Properties. I am updating Starcraft 2 and get a file creation error during patching. The read only setting is the only thing I can think to change other than full uninstall -> reinstall.
edit: Just tried doing it in elevated command prompt and the R flag for readonly is not present at all even looking all sub-folders with the /S switch. So apparently its not read only but explorer is noting it so in 'properties' ... very strange.
Today I was trying to create a VirtualBox VM that had direct access to a partition which is the only one on its disk. This partition contains non-OS-specific data (including documents and music). The guest OS is Xubuntu and the host OS is Windows 7.I succeeded in making the disk image for this configuration, only when I tried to write to it from Xubuntu it didn't save the changes (I couldn't see the changes in Windows 7 when I checked out that same partition). I investigated the problem and I found a solution on the internet: I needed to take the disk with the partition on it offline and then clear the "read only" attribute.The solution involved using the DiskPart utility to perform those steps. I tried to take the disk offline (with Administrator access), but DiskPart gave the following error: "Disk attributes may not be changed on the current system disk or BIOS disk 0." This is strange since that disk isn't actually a system partition: it boots from C: which is where Windows itself is installed.I ran Disk Manager, and it looked like this:So it appears a tiny 100MB partition has been added to my second disk, which is the disk containing E: which I want to be able to access from within the VirtualBox VM.So, I have the following questions: Is that 100MB partition the reason it won't work? If so, do I need this partition? If so, is there a way to move it to my first disk without breaking my Windows installation?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to attach some photos to an email I was sending, only to discover that when I went through the browse option there was apparently nothing in the folder (which there was when I checked the folder in question)Having dug around I discovered that every folder appears to have read only set in attributes.I tried to remove this but all to no avail. Having clicked on apply, then closed the file down, I have reopened it to find read only is still there.
View 8 Replies View RelatedBy default, the folders in Windows 7 do not have a read-only attribute. Only files have a read-only attribute. Any changes to the folder's read-only box will only affect the files in the folder, then the read-only box will default back to blue when you check it again.

these folder have the read-only attribute set on and I can't unset it.
Whenever I tried to unset this attribuite even if Windows 7 seems to comply the folders actually remain in the read-only mode.
Is there a way to unset this attribute?
I need to do that at least for a subfolder, since this contains a program which modifies files every time you open it.

I am not able to remove it from Add/Remove programs, have read through some help info and attempted to use the Windows Fixit, Revo & Ripoutoffice2007, none of which have removed it (Revo didn't take it out and then pulled up a million 'left over' files, none of which I deleted).

Then when I woke up today, I turned it on and BAM, could no longer read my SSD (Vertex 2) and would get a message telling me to insert my windows install disk.So I decided to humour it, and tried putting the disk in, checked the recovery options and was unable to find the SSD to perform recovery on. I carried on a few more steps to install a fresh copy and it wasn't listed there either.
I spent about a hour fiddling around with the hardware, swapping around wires and harddrives to check if it was the wires messing me about, turns out everything worked fine.I then reset my BIOS and then checked the boot settings, but my SSD wasn't even displayed on the list.So I was stumped.On the POST screen, when the SSD was not plugged in, nothing would show up in that slot, however when the SSD is plugged in it says 'None'(SSD currently plugged into C1 Master)
I am unable to read CD-R on Word 2010 using Windows 7. When I insert a CD I either get the message Internet Not Responding or the screen fades out and I have to exit because it won't do anything.

Strange thing is, I tried the same 3 External HDDs in another PC and all three are able to be read.

win 7 64 bit I have suddenly not been no able to read vbs files...I have re-registered both windows and java script via an elevated command and both are said to be running - succeeded But when I then run a vbs script which I know to be 'good' ...using open with and choosing Microsoft base script host I get message as per picture.

A couple of nights ago, it took a couple of tries - last night, I couldn't get it play one at all.Having looked for various fixes, I have tried the following:-Updating drivers-Disabling and re-enabling the drive in device manager-Going into the registry to remove recommended entries (high/low filters i think? Sometimes they would become normal or too large but moving the mouse/keyboard made it just too WAY too small.I did a bunch of stuff recommended by Mozilla to fix but in the end I uninstalled FF including all personal data and reinstalled. Same problem.

Then tried plugging this drive using a USB connector into my desktop PC to see if I could run some chkdsk. Then my desktop PC displayed messages telling me my firewall and virus software had been turned off and the computer crashed. ROOTKIT? So I was left with 2 drives not working. I re installed windows on desktop but using ISO on flash drive BUT can't on the 500GB Hitachi HTS545050B9SA00 for some reason. Windows setup loaded and Deleted old partitions and formatted. When I tried to install, it froze. It now just boots up with a windows loading screen and I'm also unable to boot from flash drive as it freezes. This is on a Sony Vaio VPCEB4E4E.

The USB icon will show in the taskbar and when I place my mouse over it, it says Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media. But when I click it, it won't show the external drives to eject. View 9 Replies View RelatedCloned the 2 hdds to the single using Norton Ghost. It works fine and the PC boots no problem - but only if the bios (Asus) is set to 'configure sata as RAID'. If I change to 'configure sata as IDE' it won't boot (bsod during windows loading screen).
The PC clearly thinks the new, single hdd is still a raid system - which presumably could cause problems when I upgrade the mobo. I have tried Windows 7 repair, fixmbr, fixboot, rebuild bcd... none of it makes any difference!
For quite some time I have been unable to to eject any USB/external hard drive devices that I have plugged into my computer. Using Process Explorer I've looked at the processes that are interfering with being to be able to eject devices.
Even if I do not have any files or programs open from that device, each one will have two explorer.exe processes running. However when I use find handle with Process Explorer on my main external hard drive there are these several processes running.

I am able to Close Handle on the explorer and svchost processes, but when I try on the system ones I get an error message reading, "Error opening process: the handle is invalid".
