View 2 RepliesOne day I was playing a game and then my cp BSOD (its OCd so I wasnt too alarmed). Then I went to boot back up and all I got was a blinking cursor. No msg, no text, NOTHING! Well I looked around on the internet and though a combination of windows startup repair and bootrec, bootsec, diskpart and chkdsk I was able to get it to where now all it will say is Disk Read Error, press ctrl+alt+del to restart. Of course pressing that does nothing. The weird thing is that I know the drive is good, I can read all the data off of it just fine. I dont think its going out as its an 80gb intel ssd in a desktop with very good airflow, no issues there. Then when I try to go through windows startup repair it says no problems, clearly lying. Another weird thing is that when I first go to recovery options it will detect my os just fine, but then I run bootrec /scanos and it comes up with a BIG, FAT NOTHING!! Ive been at this for about 8 hours on and off and Im at my wits end.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have many, many Outlook messages on my HD that I stored in .msg format. I am about to set up an old laptop that will not have Outlook on but will have those stored messages either on it or accessible on a USB device. Is there a piece of software around that will let me read those messages? I've tried to do it with Thunderbird but can't find a way just to read individual, stored outside of Outlook's pst files, messages.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I turned my computer off last night, everything was working fine. Then when I woke up today, I turned it on and BAM, could no longer read my SSD (Vertex 2) and would get a message telling me to insert my windows install disk.So I decided to humour it, and tried putting the disk in, checked the recovery options and was unable to find the SSD to perform recovery on. I carried on a few more steps to install a fresh copy and it wasn't listed there either.
I spent about a hour fiddling around with the hardware, swapping around wires and harddrives to check if it was the wires messing me about, turns out everything worked fine.I then reset my BIOS and then checked the boot settings, but my SSD wasn't even displayed on the list.So I was stumped. On the POST screen, when the SSD was not plugged in, nothing would show up in that slot, however when the SSD is plugged in it says 'None'(SSD currently plugged into C1 Master)
I am unable to read CD-R on Word 2010 using Windows 7. When I insert a CD I either get the message Internet Not Responding or the screen fades out and I have to exit because it won't do anything.

View 7 Replies View RelatedFrom what I can see, this seems to be a fairly common problem across computers...My Dell Inspiron n5010 (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) sporadically won't read DVDs. A couple of nights ago, it took a couple of tries - last night, I couldn't get it play one at all.Having looked for various fixes, I have tried the following:-Updating drivers-Disabling and re-enabling the drive in device manager-Going into the registry to remove recommended entries (high/low filters i think? I only had the "high" option, which apparently means that fix isn't for me...)-Uninstalling any DVD-burning software that may be interfering with my laptop's own DVD player/software.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOriginally got message - Disk read error occurred press ctl alt del to restart. Then tried plugging this drive using a USB connector into my desktop PC to see if I could run some chkdsk. Then my desktop PC displayed messages telling me my firewall and virus software had been turned off and the computer crashed. ROOTKIT? So I was left with 2 drives not working. I re installed windows on desktop but using ISO on flash drive BUT can't on the 500GB Hitachi HTS545050B9SA00 for some reason. Windows setup loaded and Deleted old partitions and formatted. When I tried to install, it froze. It now just boots up with a windows loading screen and I'm also unable to boot from flash drive as it freezes. This is on a Sony Vaio VPCEB4E4E.

View 2 Replies View RelatedTLDR: I get the "A disk read error occurred" error but the system disk is readable and checks OK in the recovery USB. So, I have two hard drives--a terabyte drive with some data on it and a smaller drive with the Windows 7 installation on it--and a USB drive. I made the USB drive into a recovery USB using the instructions here Installing Windows 7 System Recovery into USB Flash Drive | Raymond.CC Blog with the addendum found in the comments. I made a system image of the smaller drive via the control panel and then put the image in the terabyte drive. I then replaced my smaller hard drive with a new drive of a comparable size.In order to restore the drive, I booted into the recovery USB, formatted the new hard drive with ntfs, made it active, and ran wbadmin start recovery -version:xxx -items:C: -itemtype:Volume -backupTarget:C: -recoveryTarget: where C was the terabyte drive and D is the new drive. I may have the drives mixed up here, but I assure you I had them correct when I actually ran the command
After a reset, I got some generic error so I went back into the bios, and set the new drive to be at the top of all boot lists, and then rebooted. It was at this time I got the above error. I feared that my drive was actually DOA, so I booted back into the recovery. I did a D:;dir and saw that all of my old files did indeed exist, so I figure it was a boot issue. I ran the boot repair utility in the recovery menu and it said there were no errors and I should restart. I didn't restart, and instead ran a chkdsk D: /f and found no errors. I did a bootsect /nt60 /all /mbr and restarted and still nothing changed. I even tried a "bcdedit /timeout 10" and I do not see the boot loader before getting this error. Not sure if that is expected or not but I'll throw that in here.
I am not technical enough to understand the messages I get - they are quickly gone before the PC shuts down and then restarts each time. I have zipped up the report and dump files - System bought with Win 7 64-bit Pro SP1 as an OEM install and is about 6-months old. I have added a PCI-E USB card to add additional USB ports and a second hard drive. Running 8GB of Corsair RAM and BSOD happens at random times - from simple web browsing to web design sessions with several software packages open. I cannot see a pattern to the shutdowns.
