View 0 RepliesI have a new PC running W7 64bit.When I click the safely remove hardware button to remove a USB flashdrive, listed as well is the option to remove my hard drive. Is this normal? The shop that built the PC for me says it is because my hard drive is SATA, but it is still a bit disconcerting.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhere are the REAL picutes you download stored? I'm confused about the library.. I download a set of pics and the file is named the date. Then when I have time, I have tried to go in and set up folders, by year 2011, Month, or activity such as folder named 'Holiday's that would be in the 2011 folder... when I move the pis to a newly created folder to organize them all, it freaks out and gives me some error message! It seems then the pictures are lost or unaccesable because they were moved. Am I not allowed to touch these, and orgainze once downloaded? those that undestand where I am coming from and can tell me how it work and what to do.

I'm on a domain, and I have my home drive (H, and I want the folder inside called Documents added to my library (and then set as default save location).
I just loaded Win 7 pro and in my pictures library I have a folder path that goes to no where. It was a folder in my external drive that no longer exists . The problem is when I tried to do a back up it failed and said it was because the folder path was missing. I tried to delete the folder but it will not let me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem when I click on a particular folder in my computer. (I don't have to open it, I only have to select it).I get an error message from Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library saying, 'This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information'. The application (which I assume is Windows Explorer), has to restart. I have no problems selecting any other folders. The problem folder is on my external hard drive, which hasn't been connected for a couple of weeks. But I then found that the error occurred on that folder's copy on the internal drive. (The two drives are not synced - I had simply made a back-up copy about a month ago).

Their is a weird folder named "WINDOWSTEMPDIR_FONTCONFIG_CACHE" in my Pictures Library. After searching I haven't been able to determine what this folder is for or why it was created. Is it OK to delete it or should I move it, leave it alone or what?
Some picts in my library have gone missing, sort of. One of the folders holds 11 subfolders and the picts in these don't show. The folders show 0 bytes. If I open Kodak Easyshare these picts show for a split second so I know they are somewhere. What can I do to restore them to the original location?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to share my MUSIC folder on my Windows Home Server (WHS) to my Music Library.
Pretty simply structure, so thought this should not be a problem. If I add the entire folder to the Library only 1/3 of my songs are listed. In trying to understand what is happening I found that only 2 of the 5 sub-folders under MUSIC are included (Songs1 and Songs5).
Starting over, I removed the "MUSIC" folder from the Library and then proceeded to add each sub-folder indivually. What I found is I could add 2 sub-folders (Songs1 and Songs5), but adding the other 3 sub-folders returned an error message, "this network location can't be included because it is not indexed". If I add any new folder under MUSIC I can't add it to the Library either.
I'm thinking this has to be some type of security or user issue but can't think of what it would be since some of the sub-folders under MUSIC can be recognized, while others, including new folders, can not be added. Anyone have any suggestions?
I have my "pictures" folder on a separate disk drive and have set Libraries to include it. However, I still have Microsoft's My Pictures folder and can't get rid of it. As a result, many applications get confused and save files to the wrong folder or I loose files myself. How can I modify the default Library to point ONLY to my chosen folder and not the defaults please? Or alternatively, get rid of the MS default library system completely as I HATE being forced to be organised like this by MS when no alternative is offered that works!

View 5 Replies View RelatedOn various pictures, I've seen it read the XMP "Title" tag, the EXIF "Description" or "User Comment" tag, the IPTC "Caption" tag, even Keywords or Sub-categories.
So my question is, what's the limit to it all? I would think that "Title" would only display a metadata tag with a similar name, like XMP DublinCore Title, or, if it could only find its IPTC counterpart in a file, Fixture Identifier. I suppose that when you don't give yourselves all that much space to work with, as is the case with the bottom panel of a Windows 7 Explorer window, doubling- and tripling-up like this can be considered practical. Maybe I haven't looked far & wide enough. All the same, I think that a tooltip or some easily-gotten-at description of the fields in that bottom 3/5 of the window would be more than enough to satisfy one's curiosity.
I won't add mischief to misery and ask "Why was this done?" as I've already partly come up with a reasonable answer myself (available space within the bounds of the window). I'll just ask if anyone else has been curious about this, and if so, invite them to comment here on this thread.
my friend tried to transfer some pictures into my laptop by blutooth he is using HTC sensation, but after the whole thing is done, there is a system folder left behind i tried to delete it but when i right click on it, a dialog box appears that the windows explorer stopped working, my computer just became very slow, like its running on 100 programs at a time, it took a very long time just to move the cursor to close the dialog box, yeah i cant delete the system folder i tried to google about this but i didnt found a similar problem with mine, tried to delete the registry method but it didnt work as a new folder appears instead, i dont want to do anything further relating to registry thing as i am afraid that i would corrupt some important files.

I am trying to relocate my Users folder into another HDD to save space on my OS HDD by using this guide: Move the Users Directory in Windows 7 I am currently inside cmd on the Win7 Ultimate Edition(x64) DVD and have executed the following commands with some edited results next to them:
robocopy /copyall /mir /xj D:Users C:Users
"Directories skipped: 51 Files failed: 1"
(Cmd interpreted my C: drive to be the D: drive and my target HDD to be C: in recovery mode)
robocopy /copyall /mir /xj D:Users C:Users
"Directories skipped: 2114 Files failed: 1"

Things I have tried:
1) Enabled hidden administrator logon and logged onto it.
2) Edited user permission for entire drive and set to 'full control'
3) verified the folder is not locked/in-use even deleted it and then restored
Still has the stupid 'read only' box checked when you hit Properties. I am updating Starcraft 2 and get a file creation error during patching. The read only setting is the only thing I can think to change other than full uninstall -> reinstall.
edit: Just tried doing it in elevated command prompt and the R flag for readonly is not present at all even looking all sub-folders with the /S switch. So apparently its not read only but explorer is noting it so in 'properties' ... very strange.
I have windows seven home premium on a lenevo 3000 N100.I was running Super Anti spyware free edition and it said that a folder in my documents which contained 2 MP3 files and 2 image files was corrupt. I know it was not like that to begin with as I downloaded it on Jan 7 and have listened to the songs a few times since then. I can't delete it because it is corrupt. It recommends I run chkdsk. I go to it by going to my computer, drive c, properties, tools, check disk. Then it says it can't run it when windows is in use and asks if I'd like to schedule a scan the next time I turn on my computer. I have restarted and shut down my computer atleast 5 times now and it will not start that scan, it'll just boot up like it normally would.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure how to remove the lock icon over some of my folders. It appear if I share one of my folder with the Homegroup and unshare it later. I think it is because when I share it with my homegroup, the Everyone/Cooperation (I'm not sure to use the good word, I'm using the french version) option disapear and I can't add it anymore.By default :Once shared and unshared : (can't add Everyone - Cooperation, which cause I presume the lock on the folder)My only option is to share it again with the Homegroup or with Everyone with Read instead of Cooperation. I don't want this folder to be shared anymore.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAm expecting to receive my copy of Win 7 tomorrow, have got my drivers ready but am wondering whether there is an issue with installing Win 7 onto a SATA drive.
Had issues when installing XP as it wouldn't recognise the SATA drive and wouldn't load the drivers either. Ended up making a slipstream disk with the drivers on which took a while to get right.
Does Win 7 install onto a SATA drive straight out of the box or will I have the same problems as I had with XP?
I have Win7 Ultimate and in the windows explorer or what ever you call the program where you view the files and folders, it shows the address paths of "Hidden" folders that I want to keep hidden. How can I delete these address paths? It also shows up in the IE8 addresses which is a pain but easily deleted there. However in the Windows explorer address bar that option is not available.
