View 3 RepliesI was wondering what the best way to password protect my flash drive is. My sandisk 8gb flash drive came with the stock sandisk software that supposibly password protects my data. This didnt seem so, so im looking for a new way to protect my files. Is there a program that when the drive is plugged in, the user is prompted for the password before even seeing the files on my drive?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI would like to password protect a few folders on Windows 7, how can I do this? Ideally when someone would click on the folder there would be a prompt asking for a password, similar to what happens when you make a .zip and password protect it.
The only software I found till now which comes closest to my needs is Protected Folder, however you have to open the program each time and unlock the folder you want to use, then re lock it when ready, it's not so straightforward as I was imagining. Also I don't know if access will be blocked from other users on the network, once the folder is shared.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a Toshiba Satellite L735D with Windows 7 Home Premium OA and I attempted to set an admistrator password for the first time. I recieved and error that said "Windows can not change the password".Also I added a new folder to the desktop and it will not allow me to change the name. It gives me an error saying the folder is no longer located at the location. If I cancel the rename the folder is there.I starting thinking these issues may be related? This was a demo computer for the store I purchased it at. I wonder if there is some setting left over eventhough they removed the demo software and their admistrator account.
View 8 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to password protect a folder (or folders) in Windows 7 somehow? I have several possible uses for this. One of them: At work all my colleagues and myself uses a common computer. On this computer I've installed Dropbox with personal files. Although we all have our own user account on the computer, we all are administrators, meaning everyone can, if they want to, enter my Dropbox folder. I'd love to have a password on this folder so that only I can open the folder.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMaybe I'm just over thinking here, but say you hide a file, sure you can access it through changing the folder options from show to do not show. So whats the point of hiding stuff unless you're hiding it from someone who is a novice at windows 7. My main goal here, is to have a folder, which is password protected, and have it filled with things that can not be accessed through any means other than entering the correct password and therefore entering the folder. I basically want it to be completely impossible for someone to access the contents of the folder without the password.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just done a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64. I have set up four accounts and for each one I have moved the user folders to a separate hard drive by using the Right Click Properties > Location > Move. I have done this for the following folders:
- Desktop
- Downloads
- My Documents
- Favorites
- Links
- My Music
- My Pictures
- Videos
I have done it exactly the same way on each account (and more than once! I've been imaging the disk and have restored backwards a few times.)
The problem is, on three of the accounts, when I move the My Music, My Pictures, and Videos then they do move correctly but three rogue folders appear named Music, Pictures and Videos. And I can't delete then since they are system folders.
But the weird thing is that this does not happen on one of the accounts!
how to get rid of the extra folders as they're cluttering up the users home folder and causing confusion.
In Windows 7 how can I change "Folders View" for individual folders without changing them system wide. For example if I select "always show icons" all my folders are set this way, and that's fine. But there are a few folders I have containing jpeg images, and I want to view those as "thumbnails" without effecting the others which are set to always show icons.
This was very easy to do in Windows XP but I can't figure out how to do it in Windows 7.

Can I do that without loosing my address book, etc.?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've always thought of networking as one of the black arts.
4 PCs - One Vista, 2 Windows 7 Home Premium, 1 Windows 7 Ultimate. All see each other. All have appropriate folders shared.
Try accessing A from B and I get "Enter Network Password (to connect to B)". I never set one up to start with, so why is it asking me for it. How do I access/change something I never set?
Try accessing B from A - I see the PC, and the folders I want but trying to access them results in "You do not have permissionto access folder names Contact your network administrator - who he? Obviously me but I don't know what the answer is!
Trying similar things with the other two PCs in the mix results in various permutations of the same problem.
I have tried all the various links suggested through Networking and Help, but most of the actions seem to be boxes to click to make the PCs try to sort themselves out. When it fails I can't find a manual way of trying to sort it out.
Any suitable tutorials that may help? Couldn't see any.
