View 2 RepliesI recently built a new rig and I had a problem with one stick of memory. The other stick worked alright, but I've been getting random failures. Can bad memory be inconsistent? Right now, I can't start my OS up at all. It goes straight to the Windows Repair Launcher, which fails. When it gets there, I can either find a restore point or let it 'attempt to fix' for as long as I can endure. The restore point option results in 'instruction xxx failed. memory reference xxx failed.'This leads me to believe there is a problem with the memory. But, could it be the motherboard? I played a video game for hours last night, as well as surfed the web and ran other applications. Everything was fine, until I shut down. This isn't the first time this happened. Last time, I 'fixed' it by switching the 'good' memory stick with the bad. The bad resulted in getting the OS up, but lots of BSOD's
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop has been working fine for two or three months now, until today when I restarted it and suddenly could no longer use my USB mouse. Then I realized I had no WiFi signal, so I plugged into ethernet, and still had no internet connection. Most of my drivers seem to be broken, with my laptop functioning only as it would after freshly installing Windows, before actually installing any drivers.I managed to eventually find a way to install the WiFi drivers, and then the rest of the missing drivers, and restarted my computer to make sure everything was fine. The exact same thing happened again. Any idea what is wrong and how I can fix it without doing a fresh install? I don't currently have access to my backup drives so I'd lose a lot of stuff if I had to reinstall Windows.

It adds time to each boot up period as it goes through the updates and then at the end will say it's failed and is reverting all the changes. I have already done some research on this issue and ran "sfc/scannow" as well as "chkdsk/f/r." Both seemed to go through with no problems. After that I did a Windows update and 12 updates seemed to go through with no problem until the required reboot where we're back to the same issue of failing and reverting.

This happened to me back in the Windows 7 beta and it was only (partially) solved when I formatted and did a clean install of the retail version. Now that it is happening again I'm just like "screw it - format now and not waste 2 months trying to fix it.Issue seems to be: Can't update GFX drivers (Tried Driver Sweeper etc. Doesn't make a difference)Can't launch a good deal of my games (most of them the affected ones use OpenGL If I could fix that, it would save me formatting but last time I scoured the internet far and wide to try and fix it to no avail."But", you say, "just format and be done with it!"The install begins fine, it extracts all the files and gets to the first reboot. After about 3-5 mins of it progressing through the final stages of the install the screen goes blank and nothing happens (HDD and disk drive both idle even after 30 mins). Presumable its installing the graphics card driver.I had this same problem last time (From beta to retail) and I did find a solution which I can't remember exactly.I was certain it was from these forums (Which is why I'm posting here) but after a good search of these forums and the rest of the general internet I couldn't find the same instructions. Incase it rings any bells with anyone, it involved something like so:Do the first stage of the install At the first reboot enter safe mode Shift+F10 to open command prompt Open device manager and remove graphics card driver (or disable card)Reboot and continue install The only problem I ran into this time is that it wasn't loading into safe mode (it got up to loading disk.sys, the second last file it normally loads, and stops there) unless I first continue the install up to the point where where the screen goes blank, but then after I disable the card and boot normally to continue the install it says it encountered an error and makes me start it over?tl;dr: Can't update/install graphics card drivers normally or during during Windows 7 install.

I went to uninstall a program, and it failed. tried to install a program and it failed. Did windows updates, selected about 10 or so, most installed ok, but three failed. I created a new administrator-level account [the system has only had one in its history, the main/only I have ever used], tried to logon for the first time, and it failed.This system is on a LAN [wifi bridged AP] and is a Homegroup owner, but it is not on a Domain.

It first happened while I was playing Diablo III. The colors on the screen went crazy then Diablo froze and the screen started flashing which eventually lead to a crash and a blue screen. After the reboot windows started and automatically ran the cmd prompt with winSAT trying to diagnose something? It would go through the process and it seemed like it was just looping over and over with no solution. I closed the cmd prompt and it crashed shortly after, with the same errors.

On the next reboot I then ran in safe mode and did a system restore hoping it would clear up. It did not. After the restore it did the same thing and eventually crashed again. Here I have both the dump files from the incidents (it only recorded two of them). I have googled and read up a lot on similar errors and it seems to be either a hardware issue or a driver problem. I am downloading drivers right now and will see what happens, but I am doubtful. Also when the blue screen came up, it said something about the "nvlddmkm.sys" file, but I don't recall what it said. It was too fast for me to catch it all.
Ok so I recently moved from vista to windows 7 and everything is great except that about 40% of the time when I restart my computer, the mousepad and video card drivers don't load up. The mousepad stops responding and the resolution goes to 800x600. When I look in device manager those two drivers say they failed to initialize and need a restart, I will post the exact error messages soon. Then when I restart everything runs fine. But this consistently happens, I believe it happens everytime I install something new and then restart. I can't figure out how to stop this from happening, anyone know what to do?

When it asks me where i want to install Windows, i click next and it tells me:"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Windows needs the driver for device [Primary IDE Channel]. Click 'load driver' and select the required device driver."It doesn't find anything when I click 'load driver'. When I look in Device Manager it says the Primary IDE Channel driver is working properly. I am not sure what a Primary IDE Channel even is, so I am at a complete loss here.Computer is an Insignia d300a, a second internal hard drive is installed,and I have been unable to locate the startup disk that came with the computer. I am not sure what other information is relevant, but let me know if you need more information.All the data on the computer is saved, I just want to get Windows 7 on it...if there is no way to update that driver, is there a way I can format the hard drive and install Windows from the disk, or will it still give me problems because of the IDE Channel thing?

just build game rig , got genuine Windows 7 home premium , load on ssd-60gb all ok then, installation stops-loops at 70% , led from ssd in pernament- something is wrong.Find out that need to disconnect all usb ports,ect. downgrade ram, so done that , now what to reinstall Windows 7 - instalation disk can't see any drive , so BIOS - no ssd? ran install disk again . go to repair, choose cmdr- it is there under x:boot lol never seen that before. Did try to format - disk write protection, diskpart don't see any disk? connect it to other desktop - os Windows 7 will not see ssd? did I broke that drive? it's now 3 day of my crusade

View 16 Replies View Relatedmy brother's hdd in his laptop was going bad, it kept failing to boot. so i replaced it with another one. when i turned the laptop back on it started installing all the drivers for his hardware (windows was already installed on the 2nd hdd) and prompted me to reboot. after i did windows failed to start several times. i re-installed windows from scratch, and now his graphics card isn't showing up in device manager and windows cant find a driver for the network or ethernet card.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NW270F 15" laptop with Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium. 320 gb. Oh i'm also out of warranty.Computer always freezes at the point where it says "starting windows" and stays frozen. I even left it for alone for 24 hrs and it stayed on that screen.
Things I've tried:
1. I used safe mode to repair windows = just restarted in normal mode and froze at "windows is starting"
2. Used safe mode to restore to earlier point = could not to restore message
3. Created repair disc from another Vaio win 64 = froze at "windows is starting"
4. Used registry clean and malware bytes in safe mode = malware bytes found nothing & reg clean did nothing
5. Fresh install of windows 7 = windows bar loaded then froze at "windows is starting"
6. Reformatted hard drive & performed fresh install = windows bar loaded 7 froze at same point
7. Bought new Western digital 320 gb SATA Hard drive & tried install of win 7= same results

I'm working on a re-install of all components following a complete corruption of the boot sector on my drive which could not be fixed with repairs. The last time I installed everything fresh, I had no issues. Between then and now, there have been no hardware changes on my system, but now I am having issues installing the IDT Codecs. I keep getting an error along the following lines: Quote: ExitError: Error=Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again. Running under compatibility mode, and running drivers from both the motherboard CD and the manufacturer website both have the same effect. The CD, when booted, says "This OS not support!" and only contains 32-bit vista codecs. ECS' website download indicates the IDT drivers as being compatible with Windows 7. Both do not work. It is almost as if the hardware "disappeared," despite the fact that I was using the drivers quite successfully till just 2 days ago, when the boot sector went kaput.
Windows has installed its own default set, which do nothing to power the 8mm jacks which I use with my speakers, but instead put sound through the HDMI, which is useless because I use a dedicated graphics card. I have tried uninstalling this codec and re-installing IDT, to no effect. I have a simple question, I recently fresh installed Windows7 and was wondering if I should Install the new mobo drivers from the ASUS site (i have an ASUS P5Q Pro) or should I just keep the current microsoft drives for all the chipsets/lan/etc. The only Thing I installed was the Realtek sound driver. Would there be any advantages to install proper drivers? because right now my computer runs perfectly stable and smooth using the Windows7 ones.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a new BenQ G2420HD series LCD monitor and an HD enabled, windows seven ultimate, 64bit pc. However, when I connect my monitor to my PC using HDMI, my PC detects it (I've checked with a second monitor), it knows the name of it and can change the resolution etc. quite happily but no display shows on the monitor. The monitor just says 'no cables connected'. It works fine if I connect it with a DVI cable (haven't bothered trying VGA) but I want HD!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded and installed a set of Windows Updates that came out on 4/26. I had about 8 of them. 4 of them installed successfully but 4 of them were downloaded and installed(on shutdown) but fail to configure on startup. The four I'm having issues with are:

Each of these are updates for Windows 64-bit. I was wondering if anyone else was having issues with these as well. I plan on waiting a day or two and try again. I've tried twice today with no success.For future reference, what can cause an update to fail to configure?
Our laptop prompted a download and installation of SP1 Win7 and we pressed ok. The installation became stuck and warned do not shut down computer but it stayed in this state for over four hours. We had to "hard" boot the computer and on reboot it tried to install the new update. The system became stuck on " Fatal error C0000034 applying update operation 236 of 80331 (_000000...) " Then we started normally but the system identifies improper shutdown and runs system recovery (Lenovo) We choose "go to system recovery point" and after some time the system reboots and goes back to " Fatal error C0000034 applying update operation 236 of 80331 (_000000...).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a new external HDD WD My Book Essential USB 3.0 (2TB) 6 month ago. All was good until two days ago. I rebooted my computer and I won't boot up. After disconnecting WD HDD it work perfectly But after I turned my PC off, and tried to turn it on, again it won't boot up with the HDD connected AND some weird ticking noise started in HDD itself. I sounds like it's trying to boot but failing and trying again. So I disconnected, boot up the system and then plugged it in. Nothing Not in explorer, not in disk management not in Acronis program, nothing.I rebooted and it showed and Local Disk R, but I can't even start disk management or open it with explorer, or even open any program to be able to see/fix it. In the end, HDD wasn't even turning on.So the next day I called tech support of WD. They told me standard stuff, like "Disconnect, Reconnect Try another port, etc ". Nothing. By warranty they can replace it, BUT I don't care about the drive itself, I need data. In this case they can't help me. All they told me is to contact special company for that, and it's gonna cost me up to 1000$.After that call, I noticed a burning smell from HDD. It was connected to power and USB. I disconnected and I opened the case of my HDD. SATA HDD itself seams to be fine, but the connection board (with USB and power) burned.So, I connected directly via SATA to my PC. And that's when the fun starts: BIOS did not recognized it. I switched the SATA port. BIOS showed the model and everything but it gives me "Ultra DMA Mode-5 S.M.A.R.T Capable but Command Failed." Reboot.In different software... NOTHING. Reboot again: and again "Ultra DMA Mode-5 S.M.A.R.T Capable but Command Failed". Reboot. S.M.A.R.T. Command Failed... Reboot 5 times, all good. Started LiveBoot CD by Wondershare. It found my HDD and UNKNOWN. Was trying to recover data from it, program freeze. Reboot again. Was trying to fix mbr with Win 7 Boot Cd, nothing cuz it can't see were to fix mbr. Reboot. Started HDAT2. Nothing. Reboot 10 times, and HDAT2 finally can see my HDD. Before I start any test I shows me read error from UNKNOWN DEVICE. Started "hdat2 most powerful test". Nothing. No errors was found. O_o. Also I try Read MBR with the same HDAT2. Everything 0/0/0/0. So what else I can possibly try?? Oh yeah, when I connected my HDD via SATA, that "boot or not to boot" sound was still there.
