[MEMORY] Why Can't Access 746Gb On Hard Drive After Partitioning
Dec 9, 2011
I just partitioned my external 3.0Tb hard drive using the device manager in Win 7. At first I had one partition of around 2.8Tb, I shrunk the existing partition to around 1.9Tb and then Windows created 3 partitions instead of 2. I ended up with 1 partition of 1.9Tb, 1 partition unallocated of around 100Gb and a 3rd partition of 746Gb unallocated. I was then able to create a simple volume on the 100Gb partition which left me with the 746Gb partition unallocated. When I try to format the 746Gb partition all the options are greyed out - I cannot create a simple volume or delete the partition. I also cannot extend my other 2 partitions to use the unallocated space. When I delete the 100Gb partition I can then extend the 1.9Tb partition and end up with a 2Tb partition and the remaining 746Gb unallocated. Is there any way to recover the 746Gb of unallocated space? Seems a waste to have a 3Tb drive that only has 2Tb of useable space.
i have a question about partitioning a 2TB external hard drive that is formatted for 1.8 TB, i would like to partiotion it into (2) 500G partitions and whats ever is left as another partition, i dont remember how to go about doing it, if i think i remember correctly, i have to delete the partiotion first ( there is not data on it at the moment ) then partition the drive as stated above, i will be using partition home wizard 6.0, also, cant i just "resize the 1.8TB drive to what i want ?. or is it better to delete it and re partion the drive
i bought a laptop and it had one drive C(OS) with 450 gb. i want the c - drive to be partitioned further 2 drives(D and E). will i able to do that ,if so please send me steps or screen shots. i followed the below steps, i partitoned using Shrink volume in Disk management and i aplit the drive as
I have 4 physical hard drives, 2 of them are 150GB and 2 of them are 1000GB. Both are mirrored at the pre O/S level in order to provide redundancy. On the 150GB mirror I installed the host operating system (Win Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V) and the 1000GB mirror is just a Data drive. I've created my Virtual server in Hyper-V and allocated it 500GB from the 1000GB mirror. When I start up the virtual Server in order to install the o/s I will be asked whether to partition this "Virtual hard drive" i.e., have a C: drive for the virtual o/s and a d: drive for the virtual data. Of course they would be on the same physical disk anyway so should I bother partitioning the Virtual 500GB drive.
i have a new samsung laptop running windows 7 64bit.when i first set it up the 1tb hard drive partitioned. that was ok, everything worked fine. a couple of days later i couldn't start windows, no idea why. as it was new and not a lot of files on it yet i reset it to when i first recieved it. now the hard drive shows 2 partitions ,one of 360gb and one of 54mb.
A week ago I had same problem 130 gig of hard drive memory and was vanishing throughout the day.it got down to 15 gig then I dont know what i did but it came back. Now yesterday same problem memory is vanishing and I went from 130 gig to 24 gig.
I bought a laptop few days ago ,OS windows 7and 320 GB hard drive,I am losing so much memory more than 35 GB so far without instaling any thing on it ,I just did the recovery disc thing when I started ,I'd love to know where did this memory go ?
My friend told me to fix his laptop and when he brought it to me i did a diagnostic test for the Hard Drive and Memory. The memory came out successful but the hard drive did not. I was wondering if I could replace the hard drive with my suggestion link below. My only concern is that will the HD will fit. He said, he would like a little speed boost if possible so I'll be giving him a 7200rpm HD.
i have like a thousand or close to thousand videos saved on my computer and they all 1 gb. one i get to 1000 of those videos, sayin they the same size, my hard drive will be full. is it like ipod memory, cause i like to fill up my computer with videos, movies?
I am trying to format my hard drive and reinstall windows 7 as my hard drive is running out of memory tried removing some programs but is not doing much my hard drive is 232GB I only have 28GB left, how to format my hard drive.
Befor two days i purchased a Sony E series core i5 Laptop with 500GB HDD Space & Original windows 7 Home basic. I wantd 4 partitions , but they said only two partions can be done in Sony laptops then they divided the HDD in to two drives. Nw C drive shows 254GB & D drive shows 195 GB space respectively. bt my system seems slow nw. Can i divide my C drive in to two drives with 125 GB space each without losing my OS & installed softwares??Before dividing do i need to take a backup of C drive?? how can i split ma existing C drive in to two drives ? How can i take backup?
I was wondering if it was possible to access a different hard drive on a computer via the network option on windows? All the computers on my home network are windows 7 and i'm always accessing stuff from a desktop file on my main computer to my laptop or onto my flat mates laptop/computer. I'm upgrading to a solid state pretty soon and hoping to put windows on my SSD and have all my files i'm usually sharing on my 2nd hard drive due to not having much space on my SSD. Is there any way to access a hard drive on your network that doesnt have windows 7 on? So I can access my files on my second HDD on my PC from my laptop. Normally all I can see is "Jon-PC" and that accesses the C: windows drive
I just did a new build and i put my 2 storage drives from my old PC in it and installed windows on a new crucial M4 ssd. When i try to open the storage drives under my computer i sometimes get a green progress bar that takes a bit to load. I tried turning indexing off, setting folder type to general n so on and the problem still occurs. I also noticed with winamp that when i click on it and scroll down and it has to load the duration of the songs winamp becomes unresponsive for a few seconds. I use PS3 Media Server to watch my video files on my TV and it also is laggy compared to before. It takes a good 10 seconds to load the list of files and takes a while to load a file when before it was instant.

PERTINENT SYSTEM STATUS:The NHD contains 1) a "BACKUPS" folder with sub-folders containing scheduled & unscheduled backups and system images from both computers and 2) specific folders e.g. MOVIES.Upon attempting to open the "BACKUPS" folder on the NHD from the PC, a WINDOWS SECURITY panel opens 1) requesting a user name and NETWORK password to the NHD, 2) listing the PC name as a DOMAIN name and 3) a red "X" - Access Denied.
1) As User/Administrator, I have not set any "folder" security/passwords,
2) I can open, view, edit and delete any of the other folders on the NHD from the PC and can open, view, edit and delete ALL folders from the iMAC , 3) I have NO domain setup, only a WORK GROUP name, 4) Network access protection is OFF.
after plugging in the external hard drive after a while I get you need to format the disk in F:\ do you want to format? After a while throws another warning saying F: is not accessible, Data error (cyclic redundancy check)It was working well until last week but then suddenly started giving this error message.
So, I recently picked up this external hard drive from a friend, who was having some issues with it. From his first description I thought I would be able to solve it myself, but i1-The Hard drive, is a standard external one connected to the PC via a standard USB cable ( One regular USB connector on the PC side and a small one, I believe they are refered to as 'mini-USB Type B' on the drive's side).2-When connected to the PC it shows up like an internal hard drive, strangely, not with the external devices.3-It cannot be browsed or accessed in any other way, the windows explorer will either, load -extremely- slowly, without success, OR freeze OR simply say it cannot be accessed.4-The furthest I got in terms of interacting with it, was to uninstall and reinstall it via disk manager.
5-All other attempts fail, formatting is impossible as a right click leads to the problems described in point 3. (I tried to format after uninstalling/installing the drive, since a message came up telling me to do so, eventhough I was planning to do it anyway)6-The drive brand is completely unknown to me, it was purchased in Hong Kong and bears the label 'Buffalo'.
I cant access my hard disk drive, when im trying to open it, my laptop responses that that there is no permission from administrator, there is a logo on my hard disk drive that the hard disk is shared..
I can see a generic storage device listed under the universal serial bus controllers in the device manager and am able to see the 'safely remove hardware' icon in my tray. Unfortunately, the only thing that I see in disk management is an 'unknown' disk. The hard drive is listed by manufacturer in the device manager; however, I am not able to open it from this site. And, when I look at the items 'attached' to my computer, the drive is not visible.
There is a unknown 'portable' device (F:/) on my computer which I dont recognize. I saw it when I was about to scan my computer with Norton and was about to select which drive I wanted to scan, if I show hidden files it also shows up under My Computer, but I cant access it.... What could cause this?
I have recently had to ditch my old computer windows xp, and bought a new Dell running windows Hoem repmium 7 (64 bit). I had a 32 bit ide external hard drive and had backed up my files there. Having got the enw copmpouetr set up I am trying to access my archived files on the 32 bit to transfer to new hard disk, but am unable to do so. Windows explorer locks up.
I have a Maxtor External Hard drive and Windows 7 Premium 64 bit. I have a user setup for each member of my family on the computer. The maxtor drive was working fine uptil I decided that I wanted only myself to be able to access it only. The drive appeared as my K drive. I went to sharing and added myself as read/write access and removed the everyone share thinking that only I would be able to use the drive. I restarted my PC and now nobody can access it. When I plug the drive into the usb slot the drive whirs up as normal but there is no drive letter for it and it does not appear in device manager etc. I plugged it into my old XP machine and that cannot read it either..
i had a virus and used norton to clean out and laptop went to blue screen and then started norton recovery, since then i cannot access the hard drive in the laptop or via a caddy. just says unable to load driver..
So, I order a new custom computer and want to install my two old hardrives from my current computer. Both hardrives have lots of programs and info on them. The main on has windows 7 32 bit installed plus several programs. The new computer will have windows 7 64bit. Is it possible to install the old hard drive and access all the programs and files on it even though it has an operating system on it? Can I just transfer all those programs and files from the old one and reformat it to free space or is there a way to just remove the operation system and still access the the files and programs?
This morning while i was watching a movie from my Toshiba 500GB external hard drive, there was a windows update going. Because of the lagging due to the update and all, I restarted it after the update is done while my ext. HD is still connected to the computer.
After restarting, somehow I can't seem to access my ext. HD even though the HD is detected. The HD somehow became a "Local Disk K:" and everytime i try clicking it a pop-up telling me that "K is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect".
I googled the problem and found one solution that told me to run a CHKDSK on the command prompt. I ran a "chkdsk /r K:" but then got stuck on the "stage 3 of 5" where the chkdsk is verifying Usn journal. This has been going on for 5 hours and the cursors still blinking.
I can access my HD again? Does the verifying Usn journal really do take this long?
I'm using Windows 7 and I have four hard drives in my computer labeled C, E, F and G. A few days ago I got a BSOD and my computer wouldn't start up after that. I've been having a few problems with the C drive lately so I bought a replacement and restored from my Acronis TrueImage 2010 backup. That went fine and my computer now works as it did before with my F and G drives connected, but not my E drive. If I try to start up with my E drive connected my computer just gets stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. If I look at my BIOS settings with it connected it is not listed. It's a pretty new drive and I've never had any problems with it before. Please can someone tell me how I can start using it again?
