I wanted to share some folders to transfer files from one PC to another. It worked for a while then it stopped. I do not remember the error msg but it was something like it could not connect to folder. Both PCs are on the network under workgroup domain.
View 6 RepliesThey are connected through a wireless network set to private, with file sharing and network discovery and no passwords required. Both users are set to administrator with no password required. What I want is permission to transfer files or folders between the C drives of both machines.
I get as far as seeing these drives when I click on the computer's network location but then cannot gain access to the drive itself. I feel as if I'm close. I've trying playing with the permissions on both C drives and it looks like I've set everything I can.
I have a problem, my folders and individual files used to show thumbnails but suddenly it stopped working. All I see is an icon from the default program. I have read about it and tried to fix it in folder options, tried uniblue but I just can't figure it out why it's not working anymore.

I have Windows XP professional with SP2 on an old slow desktop computer connected via 100mb Ethernet Cable to a speedtouch DSL router. I only have two compters on the network. The other computer is a brand new Sony Vaio laptop with Window Vista Home Premium, with all service packs applied. It is connected wireless via the SpeedTouch DSL Router. The XP can Ping the Vista and the Vista can ping the XP. The XP can browse all folders on the vista and open documents and all is well in that direction.
The Vista can see the XP Computer and can see the shared folders on it as well as the printers, but if you try to open the folders that you see, you get an error message that says you probobly don't have the proper security permissions. It hangs there for 3 or 4 minutes before it produces that error...............
I am trying to create remote file sharing among my colleagues. We want to use a desktop (with no wireless connection) with business vista as the server and create all the sharing folders in the desktop. After that, we connect to the desktop through a common workgroup. We have done all the setup but we simply can't remotely connect to the desktop at all. The error msg is 0x80070035 and network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response. Cannot communicatge with the "Desk Computer Name - ip address" Can someone teach me and show me what is the problem? Don't refer me to another websites because I have already checked and I still don't understand.

Both running the latest service packs and updates etc. Nothing fancy, just trying to share my collection of music and videos with the laptop. Now, on both machines I can see each shared folder, but can't access them all for some reason. On the Vista pc I'm sharing "Videos" and "Music", and both appear on the XP laptop; however, while Music is brows-able and working fine, for some reason Videos cannot be accessed. I've checked and both Videos and Music have the exact same permissions etc., so I can't figure out why one is accessible and not the other.

But when I check "My Network Places" on the Windows XP" machine on my LAN, all I see is "Users on Xps435mt" (the name of the computer is "Xps435mt"). I would like to have this machine also act as a mini server and be able to share out the folders housing my music and my pictures. ( makes it easier for me to dump off my recently taken pics from vacations that i may have dumped onto my laptop, and now that i am back home would like to dump back to the vista machine.) I set folder permissions and and i just can't seem to get passed the access denied. when trying to open up one of the vista shared folders. from the domain controller i mapped the folders that i need and i can open them but can not make any changes or create new directories. what am i doing wrong? I know i am no expert when it comes to networking but xp has never given me this much of a headache. *the reason it is on a domain and not a workgroup - is to broaden my skill and familiarity with working with servers, Domain controllers and Active Directory*

I can see the laptop on my vista pc network and I can access the laptop files. When I click on folders in my vista machine that I identified to share they show as shared. When I go to my laptop with xp the new pc shows up in network places. However, as soon as I click on the icon for the shared folders I get an access denied -don't have permission to access. On my vista machine I have password protection off , discovery on, public folder on and file sharing on. Everytime I started WMP11 I get the file sharing box telling me to check my sharing settings; I check them and and everything seems fine. I also have turned off both of my firewalls from Live Onecare and windows firewall. I currently am running Vista Ultimate 32bit with intel Q6600(quad core 2.40) 2gb ram, geforce 8600gts 512mb. I also recently cleaned up my desktop and don't know if I got rid of something I shouldn't have. WMP11 works fine. I also get this every 3 minutes or so popping up. Ive been using it for a couple months its pretty cool. They just came out w/ an update for it which made the GUI more aero like. It has neat file sharing folders and a lot of games you can play with people.

I also have a network sharing service problem - Vista displays, occasion (and I havent worked out WHAT occasions yet): "windows media player network sharing service stopped working and was closed" - followed by some bulls£$t about windows informing me of a solution when it becomes available. This pop up appears relentlessly - about once every 30 seconds, and i can see the system performance hitting 100% CPU for 5 seconds or so each time it does.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to transfer files from my old computer hard drive using an usb 2.0 enclosure. My new computer is running Vista, the old hard drive is running xp. When I plugged it in, my computer sees it as a mass storage device, but I cannot access nor see any files on the old hard drive. I'm getting kinda frustrated, I tried to link the two computers via ethernet that didn't work. My old computer has motherboard issues and the usb ports don't work. I was under the impression that the necessary software for the transfer and Synchronization was in Vista Windows, but having connected the computers with a transfer cable (which was installed as new hardware on both computers) nothing further happened although I was supposed to get instructions on the Standby computer how to proceed with the transfers.

With the new Win7 laptop in the Network I can see all 3 computers, as well as access files in both the XP computers. However, I cannot access any of the Win 7 files from the XP computers. I also have tried to share an HP Officejet 6110 with the Win 7 laptop, but when I try to Add Printer, which I can see the name of with the Wizard, I get an error notice that access is denied.
The XP computers Workgroup name is MSHOME; however the Win 7 laptop was named WORKGROUP by default, but I changed this name to MHOME where all 3 computers now have the same Workgroup name,
If anyone can assist me in establishing both file sharing of the Win 7 laptop and adding the sharing of printer.
Have Vista Ultimate on 1 machine and XP Pro on the other. Was able to share files from XP to Vista but not, after all the trying, the other way. About a month ago I becan me unable to share either way. Can see each computer from either one. Have been reading various comments from poeple like me who are in the same boat. Have not had a clear indication on what to do. It seems to me that if Microsoft wants to push Vista then they have to catter to us relatively DUMB ones who are going to buy Vista.
Most poeple want to share their misic etc on their network and with the present layout that is not going to happen. It is alright if you are an IT Tech or System Administrator who has trained for this but the average person is not. Maybe all you Brains could come up with a Wizard to help us Dumb poeple out. Have had Vista from the beginning and have never had control of sharing .
