I can not longer share files ie video, music, pics, with any other pc in my house including my ps3. This just started 2 days ago. Everytime I started WMP11 I get the file sharing box telling me to check my sharing settings; I check them and and everything seems fine. I also have turned off both of my firewalls from Live Onecare and windows firewall. I currently am running Vista Ultimate 32bit with intel Q6600(quad core 2.40) 2gb ram, geforce 8600gts 512mb. I also recently cleaned up my desktop and don't know if I got rid of something I shouldn't have. WMP11 works fine. I also get this every 3 minutes or so popping up. Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service has stopped working

I also have a network sharing service problem - Vista displays, occasion (and I havent worked out WHAT occasions yet): "windows media player network sharing service stopped working and was closed" - followed by some bulls£$t about windows informing me of a solution when it becomes available. This pop up appears relentlessly - about once every 30 seconds, and i can see the system performance hitting 100% CPU for 5 seconds or so each time it does.
Vista Ultimate SP1. Since installing SP1 a week ago I can no longer use the WMP player of many internet radio stations. The different players open OK, play the regulatory sponsor introductory message but as soon as they get into connecting and streaming they shut down with a message that IE7 has stopped working. By itself WMP plays OK all VDO and Audio files on my PC. I was checking your answer to another WMP11 problem (see below) but hesitated to type the two lines in "run" since it says that Vista requires a higher level (?). I looked at the web site given by the link but don't quite understand what is meant by a "higher level".
Can I type these two lines in my Vista "run" (and hope it fixes the problem) or not? Or do you have another possible solution for my problem? I posted my problem on the media player support group but no answer so far.
The control panel opens fine. I can access all items in the control panel except "Network and sharing center" and the "User accounts" (I can't access this sections via the taskbar either). What happens when I open one of the two items is I get a popup saying the following; WINDOWS EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING. I used to be able to access these items. And one day, I just coulodn't anymore... I'm using Vista Ultimate x64
Last night my Vista Ultimate x64 said there was 1 available update. This update was SP2 for Vista.
So I let it install. After the PC rebooted SP2 was installed, but, none of my games worked. Call Of Duty WAW, Call Of Duty 4, Prototype, Overlord, bionic commander each one of these games started to boot and then either shows me a blank screen, or crashes to desktop.
I found that there was later versions of my graphics card and my sound card so I updated both of these. It made no difference. I then uninstalled and re-installed Bionic Commander. Again no difference this game didn't work.
I've searched online and know this problem exists for others, but couldn't find a solution. When I click on network and sharing it either doesn't open, or opens with a blank window then freezes. Anyone have a solution? If it matters, my eventual goal is to enable file sharing so that I can begin the process of transferring my files to a mac. So if there is an alternate way to enable this, plz let me know.
I have a laptop with Vista Home Premium & built in wired and wireless networking. The wireless is detected and seems to work fine, but when I go to Control Panel>Network & Sharing, the screen opens, but none of the links are ever clickable. and the screen will not respond to the minimize (-) or close (X) buttons. I am logged in to an account with admin rights, and never get a prompt asking for elevation when the network & sharing screen opens.
Whenever my wireless stopped working I would shut my computer down. I'd do a primary hard drive test. It would fix my wireless almost guaranteed. I tried it earlier today and it didn't work. Now I got this screen telling me I need the Vista CD to resolve a problem with one of the drivers. I don't have the Vista CD. My laptop came with the program not the CD. I checked with my manufacture website and I even downloaded an HP Support Assistant. It says everything is up to date.
my firefox & IE have suddenly stopped working (blank page; "website found; waiting for reply" on IE and "waiting for xxxxx.com" on firefox). literally. one minute they were working, the next minute they weren't. i didn't do anything special in between. not even a reboot. now, it's only IE and firefox; messenger still works and so does skype and some other internet apps. i can even ping yahoo.com from cmd.
- i've tried rebooting, no help. - I've tried reinstalling firefox, no help. - i've tried switching from wired connection to wireless; no help - i've tried disabling firewall; no help. - i've run anti-virus (nod32) and anti-malware; no help - It's not the router or ISP, because my laptop works fine.................
For some reason and I have looked at everything I can think of, WMP11 will not let me any longer rate my music. Am I being completely stupid or is there some silly piece of malicious software that has got on my PC? I keep my security and firewalls up to date on a daily basis.
I am using a windows Vista 32 bit home premium notebook computer for which the wireless network detection has stopped working. I updated the driver for the built in wireless card with out any results. I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said was working properly and this did not work either. This leaves me to believe that something is wrong with the OS. I can get on the internet via dialup modem and also by the ethernet connection with a DSL modem. I have been to several hotspots that I know have wifi and no networks show up. All critical windows updates have been installed.
I have Vista x64 and I have read threads on this for weeks and can't fix it. I have file sharing/network discovery on, private network, password protection disabled, my shares set to everyone and everyone is on the same workgroup. My problem is that the x64 Vista computer will not see any of the XP (x86 or x64) computers and they can't see it from the Network Neighbourhood. However, if I type the IP address of the XP computers I can access them. On the XP computers if I type the IP address I get an error that it isn't accessable and I might not have permission. However, if I type \192.168.0.100share or any of the other share names I access it just fine. pinging works too by IP but not by name. If I boot into the x86 install of have of Vista I can access XP computers from Vista and the Vista from XP by name and everything without typing any user names. The only differince between the two aside from x64 and x86 is that x86 isn't patched past SP1 as I don't use it often. Lastly after installing that XP patch I can see the x86 XP computers by name from the network map feature on Vista, still can't access them by name though...
I'm trying to network my new Optiplex 740 with Vista Business (32bit), and Norton 360, to my old Euro PC with W2K Pro. and SystemWorks, using basic Belkin /Realtek cards and yellow ethernet cable. My broadband connection is through my old machine and works perfectly, as does the network card installation.
My new machine also indicates that its card is correctly installed and functioning correctly. BUT the Network and Sharing Center window shows this computer as linked to an Unidentified network and no connection to either the other computer or broadband connection.........
I wanted to share some folders to transfer files from one PC to another. It worked for a while then it stopped. I do not remember the error msg but it was something like it could not connect to folder. Both PCs are on the network under workgroup domain.
Lately when I've tried looking at different folders and files on my hard drives I keep getting "Windows Explorer has stopped working and will restart." It's driving me nuts, I can barely do anything. Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..
Within the last couple of weeks the print spooler stops. The event viewer shows a message saying "print spooler service entered the stopped state" with an event ID of 7036. It does not display as an error - just as information There are no events on either side of it that are within an hour of the service stopping that shows that something occurred that might have triggered the event. I can restart service without any problem and print to all of the printers. It will stop again within a couple of days.
I had Vista and loved the look, and I heard VistaOSX was even better, so I got it and did the transformation pack. It was ok but I liked the look of Vista better so I tried switching the theme back, it worked. But then I shut down my computer for the night and when I turned it on the next day, I had the Windows BASIC theme.
I tried going to "Task Manager", ran it as an administrator then went to "Services" then scrolled down to themes and it was stopped. I turn it back on and it told me to restart my computer, I did and when I turned it back on, it didn't work, I kept getting: "Could not find file C:WindowsResourcesThemesaero.theme Because The Theme Service Is Not Running." Or Something Like That. Now for some reason, I am not getting that message. It changes the background of my computer to the Vista background but nothing else.
I have a home network with 2 desktops connected. 1 running XP Pro the other running Vista Ultimate. I am trying to set up file and printer sharing, but the Vista machine can not see the XP one, or the network printer. The printer is connected to the XP machine. The network groups are the same, but I can not see the pc or the printer.
I cannot seem to figure out with my network sharing. I have a wireless network with 2 laptops running Vista home premium and 1 xp-pro laptop all behind a linksys router. At this point I have all computer seeing and sharing (only from public folders) fine. I want to be able to share one of the partitons that I created on one of the Vista laptops(home premuim) as a share for backup, but other Vista laptop won't let me have access to it. It does however let me have access to the public sharing folder though. How can I access this Drive/partition?
Network discovery is on, file sharing is on, printer sharing is on, password protection is on, all computers have same corresponding usernames and passwords, properties of the particular partition in question is configured to share. All computers have the same workgroup name. What I am trying to do, in a nutshell, is to be able to use that one partition for backup images for all 3 computers(has a very large drive on that specific laptop) So I even though about maybe mapping that it into the public sharing folder, a workaround, if you will, but I'm not sure if it would give me the available premissions to be able to do what I need it for.
By now it should be obvious that, under the Vista operating system, I have Home Premium, there is a severe overall, general "has stopped working" problem.

Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............
i have all m network sharing turned on, I have followed a bunch of online tutorials. I still cannot share or recieve files on my vista computer. It works fine for my XP computer, just type in the path and its done. Not so with the Vista machine.
thats wat my problem is but I'm able to go online just its acting weird and also the network status thing has a red x instead of being filled in with blue
My main computer that has the printer installed is vista 64bit. The other computers around the house are XP pro 32bit. I can see the printer but when I try to print it says it does not the driver. I go to install additional drivers but it won't let it happen. I have a canon MP780 AIO printer. Can anyone tell me what needs to be done? I have googled but not found my answer.
Have Vista Ultimate on 1 machine and XP Pro on the other. Was able to share files from XP to Vista but not, after all the trying, the other way. About a month ago I becan me unable to share either way. Can see each computer from either one. Have been reading various comments from poeple like me who are in the same boat. Have not had a clear indication on what to do. It seems to me that if Microsoft wants to push Vista then they have to catter to us relatively DUMB ones who are going to buy Vista.
Most poeple want to share their misic etc on their network and with the present layout that is not going to happen. It is alright if you are an IT Tech or System Administrator who has trained for this but the average person is not. Maybe all you Brains could come up with a Wizard to help us Dumb poeple out. Have had Vista from the beginning and have never had control of sharing .
I am running Vista Ultimate - my computer is directly networked to the main computer and is set up for printer - file - etc sharing. Attached to the main computer is a Lexmark X5470 multi purpose printer. From my machine I can print with no problem at all , but I cannot get the scanner to operate!. In my network sharing centre - the printers are shown as X 5470 as a printer and also a seperate X 5470 as a Fax.
All of a sudden some of my programs stopped working, for example catalyst control center is supposed to start as soon as vista starts, but now it gives me an error like:
"CCC.exe has stopped working"
Same with some others...
Yes i ran AVG, i ran malware, and superantispyware, none of them finds anything.
I cant even load daemon tools now, it gives me some error: "Engine loading was failed", cant uninstall it, it gives me another error, and some of the programs like netlimiter if i start them from my objectdock dock they automaticly stop working, only when i start them from the normal .exe they dont crash.
I have a cable wireless internet connection at home, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But when it doesn't work and I try to see what's happening with the internet, I go to Network and Sharing and the page freezes. I tried to follow the following steps, but it seems in Systems Tool, I don't get given the Local users.
When I try to print (Laptop with Vista) to the Network (XP machine) Plotter, I receive this message " Windows cannot connect to the printer. The printer driver is not compatible with a policy enabled on your computer that blocks NT 4.0 drivers". I realize this is an old plotter, however the driver installs and works fine in the XP enviroment. Is there any way I can remove this policy?
ave had a this acer lap top for 2 months.. using charter cable for internet access.. ethernet cable cannection.. 3 weeks ago stopped being able to to connect to the internet... charter says it is the computer.. i am able to user the wireless connection fine.. have taken the laptop to the electronics store and it connects to their lan good and surfs.. but at home it will not get a valid ip addresss. per the cable company, the problem is the computer.. also when connected i am not able to select private network in network and sharing..
