I do not have the software for transfer utility in Vista. I do not know where the file is for my mail folders.I thought I could copy them to CD or thumb drive and then transfer to new PC?? I am running Thunderbird right now.I tried to set up multiple user accounts in windows mail but see it can not be done.

They are connected through a wireless network set to private, with file sharing and network discovery and no passwords required. Both users are set to administrator with no password required. What I want is permission to transfer files or folders between the C drives of both machines.
I get as far as seeing these drives when I click on the computer's network location but then cannot gain access to the drive itself. I feel as if I'm close. I've trying playing with the permissions on both C drives and it looks like I've set everything I can.

Let it be known that if you purchase the above OS, you will not be able to transfer any of your e-mail messages or contacts from your old 32 bit system to the new 64 bit system. Even if you attempt to download Outlook Express, it is 32 bit and will not download and instal, therefore, you can't imnport your Outlook files into Outlook Express to convert their file extension to something compatible with Windows Mail, which is the new e-mail program.
OH, before I forget, I want to thank Microsoft for the laser/wireless mouse and keyboard configuration. My Device Manager does not recognize the keyboard as a wireless keyboard, instead it ;ists it as a "HID", (Human Input Device", or dome crap like that, and my mouse and keyboard continually freeze.

I am attempting to transfer files & settings using the Belkin Easy Transfer cable from an XP computer to a Vista computer. All starts well by showing that the two computers are connected. But after finding the files and settings and providing the amount of data to be transferred, it starts gathering information but then shows a flashing disconnection icon in the upper right of both computers' transfer windows and freezes. This happens at a different place each time, but early in the procedure (after about 10 minutes). Would anyone have any advice? I have done everything by the book, as far as I'm aware.

When I open Windows Mail every folder expands and when I go under Tools,Options and tell it to not expand folders, NONE of them expand. Is there a way to set folders to expand only when new messages are received? Outlook Express did this and it seems I must be missing something.

when I checked my computer today I discovered that my imported folders list is no longer showing up in Windows Mail. It is not just hidden, it has completely disappeared. It does not even show up when I check under my appdata user profile in the C: drive. Any ideas where it may have gone? It contains about 10 years of important emails.

Local Folders created to store mail messages such as, receipts for online payments, passwords, etc. have been disappearing. I did not delete them and can't find information related to saved folders or options related to saving email messages. Sending/receiving emails works fine and since the files were stored for many months without an issue, I have to conclude it is a problem with Windows Mail. Formerly I used XP/Outlook Express and had no issue with email saved in local folders. I would like to recover my local files.

Permanently Deleted Folder and the folder below disappeared. how to recover. I also set up a couple of test folders after this happened and moved to deleted file. When permanetely deleting 1 folder it deletes the folders below and they seem gone forever. Searched for emails and folders and they are gone. Must be on the drive somewhere (forensics?)

I'm new to Windows Mail. Have noted numerous exchanges on this and other forums re problems with constant prompting for compacting. Have not found any referring to my situation. I want to compact folders. When responding 'OK' to prompt, I receive notification thatprocess is starting with back up then I get another message advising 'folder is already in use by Windows Mail or by another application'. Have tried pausing virus protection but this makes no difference.

I'm using Windows Mail that is "connected" to my Verizon account. Months ago I created subfolders to archive older emails. I diligently moved them into this folder. I also created another subfolder under the archived folder as well. I've had what I can only call "mysterious" issues where e-mails appear and them moments later, they are gone from my inbox. I thought I had the issue (simplistically) solved by diligently moving new items into the archive folder immediately.
Now (12/26/09) those subfolders are gone. They are not under any other folder in Windoes Mail. What is very odd (and there's quite a lot) is that I did find a lot of them now back in my Inbox but not all. The archived folders I created were under the Inbox folder as a subfolder. I don't think this has anything to do with views.
