I have a problem, my folders and individual files used to show thumbnails but suddenly it stopped working. All I see is an icon from the default program. I have read about it and tried to fix it in folder options, tried uniblue but I just can't figure it out why it's not working anymore.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using Backup & Restore in Vista Home Premium x64 for easy backups. There are however a couple issues with it.First, is it possible to make Vista backup only individual folders?Second, I have Backup & Restore set to making daily incremental backups of all files (that can be selected in the wizard) on my C drive. Thing is, I have folders with applications in the root of C. E.g. C:Prog1, C:Prog2,etc... I had to retrieve backups a while back. You can only guess when all other files where restored except the .exe files n :Prog1, C:Prog2 and so on. After reading around a bit I found out that B&R doesn't backup executable
files. Any way to get around this.
I am trying to view thumbnails on certain folders with pictures. in a folder with 20 files,half come up with thumbnails. i know it's not the files, because each time i refresh, it's different files that have thumbnails or are missing thumbnails. it can't be a performance issue, because i'm running a pretty fast computer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedVista Home Prem 32bit..... I used the "search" feature to look for something and the results displayed several Folders & Files I had deleted some time back. When I right clicked on these items that had been deleled...I got the message, The item cannot be found.....make sure the Folder exists....check that the path is correct.....Or similar words. I would expect to see the message appear appear because the items don't exist.....but why did the search display them? Is there a way to clean emove them so they don't show up on future Searches?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to START - FAVORITES the individual sites and subfolders appear in one list alphabetically. When I go START and right click on FAVORITES to open it in a window, the folders appear first alphabetically and the individual sites next on the list. The same thing happens when I have a site open and go to FAVORITES from the menu bar. The list is sorted first by folders and then by individual sites. I would prefer to see them listed as the second and third examples show but I cannot get the first one to sort that way. Pretty picky I know, but it is Wednesday after all.

For some time it is impossible to open the folder double click, crashes with error message: Windows Explorer has stopped working .... View 5 Replies View RelatedNone of my jpeg images show up in any folders, no thumbnails of them, but the bitmat ones show. I have already went in and made sure the show icons instead on thumnails was not checked, I've tried system restore, I've deleted the iconcache folder so it would be rebuilt, I've changed the monitor from 32 to 16 and back to 32 again. And restarted everytime I tried something new. I work in photoshop a lot, so it makes it really hard when you go to open a picture and there's no thumbnails in the folder, any folder. All of my pictures are now just plain ol icons. I've tried everything that I know to do. This is delaying me in a lot of work.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to this forum. Recently, I have been not able to see thumbnails of pictures. All i can see is the standard river and tree like thingy. Secondly, I can't open folders in the same window. Each time i double click, it gets opend in a new window. I tried different methods to both the problems like going to folder options, unchecking "always show icon, never thumbnails" , a full scan of my system( using norton). I even tried some of the solutions posted in this forum. But still both the problems are not solved.
One thing i noticed is that, when i on my computer, i can see thumbanils for few seconds then all of them get changed to the standard image.(river and tree). Could this be due to a virus or something?
I use a Vista Business OS installed but am unable to see thumbnail preview in my taskbar. When I check the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties it shows as greyed but deselected and I have not found a way to enable this option. Similarly under Notification Area Tab the Power option inder System Icons also is greyed and deselected. Can anyone tell me how to select this 'Show Window previews (thumbnails)' and 'Power' options.

The last couple days I have been getting the following message when I right click on icons on my desktop or click on quick launch icons: Windows explorer has stopped working. It gives me the option to restart or search online for a solution. either one causes the icons in the system tray to go away and then reappear. this doesn't happen when i right click on folders on the desktop but any icons for applications it will. Also any icons in those folders will do the same thing. I have virus scanned with nothing found. I am currently scanning with adaware although i don't think it will find anything either. I have downloaded a few programs recently to convert portions of a dvd to mpeg for a class I'm taking but nothing else out of the ordinary.
View 9 Replies View Relatedmy computer new less then a year ago and use it for internet access, word processing, and a little gaming. recently i've had update issues, but even stranger when I attempt to extract a file using vista's in home extraction program(dont have a third party one) I get a message "Windows Explorer has stopped working" which then immediatly is followed by "Windows explorer is restarting." Along with that I also got a COM surrogate error this morning when I tried to extact a file. I have no idea whats going on, I called Gateway support, and they are sending me a wipe disc but I'd prefer to just fix this.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI encounterred an awkward problem... i can't see thumbnails in my folder i've tried disk cleanup many times. and I am sure the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is turned off. here is the odd part: when i open a new folder, i can see the thumbnails for about 5-8 seconds, and then the thumbnails disappeared one after another. if i press F5 to refresh, those thumbnails will appear, and 5 secs later turn into icons again.

So on my taskbar, whenever i minimize stuff and a tab is there, and i put my mouse over it, no picture comes up. I didn't know why but now I just checked and i right-clicked on taskbar, went to properties, and i looked at the menu and the option for "Show Windows Previews (Thumbnails)" won't let me check it....why?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I booted my Vista Business laptop this morning the wallpaper had gone black. I used to use a pic from my Pictures folder as my background. Now I can no longer access picture files or thumbnails through the Desktop Background applet in Control Panel. When I try to browse to the Pictures folder it appears empty. When I mouse over the contents, I get blank transparent boxes with the picture names, instead of thumbnails. If I try to use a Windows background picture, the thumbnails there are pixellated generic icons. The only background I can set is Solid Colour. I can change colours but that's it. There's no error message when I try to change my wallpaper. My user account is an Administrator (both domain and local) and I don't use screen savers. I've already tried the following suggestions from this board (rebooted after each step):
- Checked Group Policy settings, made sure all items under User ConfigurationAdmin. templatesDesktopDesktop are set to "not configured"
- Checked Ease of Use settings, backgrounds are NOT disabled
- Downloaded and "merged" the "wallpaper enable" reg file from Winhelp
- Downloaded/ran KB Hotfix 934008
- Tried steps in Vista Tutorial on disabling/enabling desktop changes, including other links to reg hacks (none of which worked).
I used to be able of seeing thumbnails and previews for .wmf files in Windows XP, but never the same in Windows Vista. How to make Windows Vista able to generate previews and thumbnails for these files?

Some of my avi files show a picture and some others show a black icon. I did not have this problem before. Before all my avi files show a picture. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (new version). I have names of those I sent to often, and then I have sub-folders, i.e., family, friend, business, etc. But when I go to send a message and try to select the people I want to send to "ALL" of the name I have in both the list and those in the subfolders all show up on the list. Is there anyway I can get the ones in the sub-folders not to show up. Like I was able to do in OE.

Also, same thing with Internet Explorer...I'm getting real sick of Vista's shoddiness..
I use Explorer in classic view. When I use the Folder Options dialog to change the options to show hidden files or system files, the change is applied in the file pane but not in the folder pane. To get it to apply there I have to close Explorer and restart it. Is there a way to get this to work right?

His system works perfectly fine, but my system is too slow.There is lag in simple operations also like there in a lag of 1-3 seconds in opening folders,it always takes to load/show all data in the folders. This problem is still persists even after i have disabled all unneccesary stuffs.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running a laptop with Vista Home Premium, and just recently some of my folders like My Computer and other various folders are opening yet show a blank window, like literally blank. There's not even a URL there, just a blank window. I played around with some registry values (which I shouldn't have) and I believe that's the cause of this problem. Also, when i try to delete some of the files inside folders that manage to open before they crash, the delete prompt stalls at 0. Explorer.exe also seems to have multiple holds on single processes. how get my comp back to shape! (Ps. Did like 3 system restores and a virus scan with no results)

Since the Programs menu (classic start menu setup) looks like an overflowing junk room after everything gets installed, I made it tidier by getting rid of some shortcuts that weren't needed and organizing others in easy to manage category folders. I was able to create all the folders I needed in ...All Users...Start MenuPrograms, but a folder named "Programs" doesn't show up among the other folders when I go to Start > Programs. Since I've never had any problems before with a sub folder by the same name as the folder above it in hierarchy, I'm thinking this might be a bug. When I check with Windows Explorer, the ...All Users...Start MenuProgramsPrograms folder is there along with all the shortcuts that have been put in it, but it's just not showing up on the Start menu. All the other folders I created such as Utilities, Graphics, Multimedia and Internet do show in Start > Programs along with all the shortcuts I put in them.

I was working on my laptop earlier this evening moving a few files around and organising my folders when I lost a few files from a folder. I don't know exactly what happened, I probably mashed the touch pad. Anyway, now I can't find the files anymore. I've tried running a search but it has come to no avail. How do I find my files? If it makes any difference the files were on a memory stick.

Yes i ran AVG, i ran malware, and superantispyware, none of them finds anything.
I cant even load daemon tools now, it gives me some error: "Engine loading was failed", cant uninstall it, it gives me another error, and some of the programs like netlimiter if i start them from my objectdock dock they automaticly stop working, only when i start them from the normal .exe they dont crash.
