I use Explorer in classic view. When I use the Folder Options dialog to change the options to show hidden files or system files, the change is applied in the file pane but not in the folder pane. To get it to apply there I have to close Explorer and restart it. Is there a way to get this to work right?

When i put Cod4 in the cd rom does nothing or on any other game i tryed Blackhawak down i have tryed Joint ops i dont even show the icon like xp would. The driver is working nothing wrong with it. im gonna have this Dang vista for a couple of weeks till my other pc gets out of the shop with xp power surge got to love that.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI somehow managed to make all of my files hidden. Then I tried to show hidden files and now files I've never seen before are on my computer. A remember pressing a read-only button (I think). My brother said I have to go to each folder one by one and change them to not be hidden, but I don't know which ones are supposed to be showing and which ones aren't. Also, is there a way to make them show without having to go one by one; since I hid them all at once, that to me would seem logical.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have enabled viewing hidden files and folders. Still, some folders and files are hidden from me! Here is an example: I navigate to eMule folder, which should contain Incoming folder, but does not. I start up eMule, go to Tools and select Go To Incoming Folder and the folder opens up normally showing the files I have downloaded. This problem also exists with a game I own. I'm not able to view the map files I have created with the game. Yet when I start the editor and choose to open a previous map file, it is nicely there in the folder it is supposed to be in.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm finally getting around to really exploring Vista for the first time, and I found a bunch of hidden junction folders that, at first glance, appeared not to be working. Of course, I later realized that there was a Deny permission issue going on, and after Googling it, I discovered that that was by design. "Why deny folder browsing only?" I won't ask, but fine, it's by design. I suspect that early on, I might have deleted one or two of these apparently non-functioning junctions. Is there a way to get Vista to re-create the default junctions? Or do I even need to...will it do so automatically when an older app tries to use them?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two user accounts on my computer. My administrator account that I very rarely ever use, and my normal, general user account I named "Bob1". I use Vista Windows Mail as my email application. I just searched and found the "hidden" folder where my Windows Mail stuff is (C:UsersBob1AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows Mail Local Folders & Microsoft Communities & Compact & Backup) I save everything to my Bob1 user account to the appropriate folder (Documents in documents folder, pictures into pictures folder, etc.) I never vary from this habit.
I have been backing up using Vista32 backup. It gives me the option to backup "Pictures, Music, Videos, E-mail, Document, TV-shows, Compressed files, Additional files". I check all of these options so all are backed up. It comes on automatically every day to backup anything new or changed.
I checked the restore part of vista32 backup & restore found in control panel. I looked up Bob1 and all my folders are there. It appeared the application data folders were there (difficult to find because the application data folders are hidden). I specifically checked the Windows Mail folders in the hidden application data folders and they were there. It appeasers everything is backed up.........
I have what appears to be an odd issue, and I can't find reference to it on the web anywhere. Under the Public folder on my Vista machine, I can see the folders Public Downloads, Public Music etc. BUT Public Documents is missing.
If I use the cmd shell, I get the same effect:

HOWEVER the documents folder does exist. I can CD into it and see my files. From within explorer, I can enter C:UsersPublicDocuments explicitly and get to the folder, but is does not show up under C:usersPublic.....
When I hover over the sound icon, it said "No Audio Output Device Installed". I have had this laptop for over 2 years and this is the first time this has happened.I have been reading several posts and many of them say to go to the "Sound, Video & Game controllers" tab in the Device Manager. However, that tab doesn't exist for me. I even clicked "Show Hidden Devices".

I have names of those I sent to often, and then I have sub-folders, i.e., family, friend, business, etc. But when I go to send a message and try to select the people I want to send to "ALL" of the name I have in both the list and those in the subfolders all show up on the list. Is there anyway I can get the ones in the sub-folders not to show up. Like I was able to do in OE.

His system works perfectly fine, but my system is too slow.There is lag in simple operations also like there in a lag of 1-3 seconds in opening folders,it always takes to load/show all data in the folders. View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running a laptop with Vista Home Premium, and just recently some of my folders like My Computer and other various folders are opening yet show a blank window, like literally blank. There's not even a URL there, just a blank window. I played around with some registry values (which I shouldn't have) and I believe that's the cause of this problem. Also, when i try to delete some of the files inside folders that manage to open before they crash, the delete prompt stalls at 0. Explorer.exe also seems to have multiple holds on single processes. how get my comp back to shape! (Ps. Did like 3 system restores and a virus scan with no results)
View 8 Replies View RelatedVista Home Prem 32bit..... I used the "search" feature to look for something and the results displayed several Folders & Files I had deleted some time back. When I right clicked on these items that had been deleled...I got the message, The item cannot be found.....make sure the Folder exists....check that the path is correct.....Or similar words. I would expect to see the message appear appear because the items don't exist.....but why did the search display them? Is there a way to clean emove them so they don't show up on future Searches?

Since the Programs menu (classic start menu setup) looks like an overflowing junk room after everything gets installed, I made it tidier by getting rid of some shortcuts that weren't needed and organizing others in easy to manage category folders. I was able to create all the folders I needed in ...All Users...Start MenuPrograms, but a folder named "Programs" doesn't show up among the other folders when I go to Start > Programs. Since I've never had any problems before with a sub folder by the same name as the folder above it in hierarchy, I'm thinking this might be a bug. When I check with Windows Explorer, the ...All Users...Start MenuProgramsPrograms folder is there along with all the shortcuts that have been put in it, but it's just not showing up on the Start menu. All the other folders I created such as Utilities, Graphics, Multimedia and Internet do show in Start > Programs along with all the shortcuts I put in them.

i tried to delete them (right click > delete). but when i restart my computer the folders are there again: how can i get vista to stop renewing those damn folders.
As you can see in this image my "Search" selection (I don't know what can I call it) is GONE. It's not in my "Start Menu". Can anybody please tell me how can I get it back, and where did it go in first place?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi installed World of Warcraft and it's expansions and started patching it. When patching from 3.1.0 to 3.1.1, the process kept stoping and 70% then just exit without returning any error in return. So i thought i should run the Repair tool and try again. Only now, when i tried to access WoW.exe i got this error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
So i came upon this little reg file called Take Ownership, i ran it but nothing has changed. Also, if i: right click wow.exe->properties->compatibility i cannot tick the "Run this program as an administrator" box. My only options now, are a complete reinstall of the game and patches (but that's just wrong, because there has to be a more logical solution).
is software like games able to use all 4 cores? i heard that most apps dont use quad core yet. if not, Is it possible to have say 2 cores used for running a game, then the other 2 to run all my background tasks, or even everything else on my pc, so that there are always 2 cores free for games or rendering etc.
