Thumbnails That Appear When You Move The Cursor Over Minimized Applications Or Windows Now Don't Show The Contents Of The Window Properly
Mar 23, 2008
The thumbnails that appear when you move the cursor over minimized applications or windows now don't show the contents of the window properly, apart (it seems!) from Windows Mail....all the others are blank with a small square icon in the middle. Anyone noticed that?

I use a Vista Business OS installed but am unable to see thumbnail preview in my taskbar. When I check the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties it shows as greyed but deselected and I have not found a way to enable this option. Similarly under Notification Area Tab the Power option inder System Icons also is greyed and deselected. Can anyone tell me how to select this 'Show Window previews (thumbnails)' and 'Power' options.

Today I installed a program that will let you record any sound coming from your speakers. It's a paid program and it's a reputable program but I noticed something after the reboot. Im not sure it's related or not. When I even move my cursor over a icon on my desktop it gives that windows sounds, like a critical beep. When I click on a topic here in the newsgroup to read, same thing. Clicking on contrl panel incons or any incons up there, same noise.

The coordinate of the cursor in my Vista is not at the tip of the arrow, instead it is at the tail of the arrow. When I click a file name, the file underneath would be opened; if move the cursor to the edge of IE, the double head arrow will apear at the bottom-left of the edge.

I have just noticed a minimized window on the taskbar with no name but only a folder icon. If I click it, a black screen appears in the top left corner of the screen with no border. Right clicking does nothing. I have just installed Diskeeper and suspect it may be the culprit.

I am still looking for an answer to my question about minimizing. My minimizing will not last, in particular the webmail. Once I open a new window, the minimized page just vanishes.

I've noticed that if you follow these steps, the cursor isn't on the file anymore:
1) Open a folder with some files.
2) Click on a file. Pressing the arrow keys should move the file selection around (I call this the cursor).
3) Minimize the window.
4) Restore the window.
5) The cursor isn't on the file anymore. The current selected file has a gray background. Pressing arrow keys have no effect on the file selection. Does anyone know how to fix this?

None of my jpeg images show up in any folders, no thumbnails of them, but the bitmat ones show. I have already went in and made sure the show icons instead on thumnails was not checked, I've tried system restore, I've deleted the iconcache folder so it would be rebuilt, I've changed the monitor from 32 to 16 and back to 32 again. And restarted everytime I tried something new. I work in photoshop a lot, so it makes it really hard when you go to open a picture and there's no thumbnails in the folder, any folder. All of my pictures are now just plain ol icons. I've tried everything that I know to do. This is delaying me in a lot of work.

I have a problem, my folders and individual files used to show thumbnails but suddenly it stopped working. All I see is an icon from the default program. I have read about it and tried to fix it in folder options, tried uniblue but I just can't figure it out why it's not working anymore.

I have a new laptop that came with Windows Vista. I recent had to format the hard drive and re-install Vista. That went pretty smoothly. Problem is that sometimes while dragging the mouse cursor across a window, Vista tries to hold the mouse cursor in the center of the window and and mouse movements scroll the window, not move the mouse cursor. How do I turn this feature off? I never want a window to scroll unless I explicitly grab and move a scroll bar.

I just installed vista ultimate and have a dual monitor setup. My main monitor is a 22"widescreen next to a 17"standard, both LCD. If I'm viewing a maximized window on my main screen(22") and try to drag it over to the other one, I can't until I minimize it. This is ridiculous. XP would allow this just fine, even resizing the window to fit the smaller screen perfectly maximized. tell me there's a fix for this. All drivers and firmware are up to date

I encounterred an awkward problem... i can't see thumbnails in my folder i've tried disk cleanup many times. and I am sure the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is turned off. here is the odd part: when i open a new folder, i can see the thumbnails for about 5-8 seconds, and then the thumbnails disappeared one after another. if i press F5 to refresh, those thumbnails will appear, and 5 secs later turn into icons again.

Every time that I open Windows Mail from Internet Explorer, it opens minimized. I must then manually maximize it. I have googled this problem and find it as a general problem in VISTA without any solutions listed,or shall I say that all the solutions listed, like draging or increasing the window size and then to close it.

It tells me I have new updates (system tray icon) but when I open it, I cant see nothing. Here is the printscreen: The gray background is just my personal configuration... So, I can see I have 41 optional updates, for example, but there is no list of them! quite strange.

I have some mpg files that I have burned to dvd and deleted from the folder. When I do a search for *.mpg those files show up in the search window. Then when I go to delete those from the search window, I get an error "Item could not be found". The files are actually gone, but shows up in the search window and cannot be removed. Are these tags or what? How can this be cleaned up.

I'm running a laptop with Vista Home Premium, and just recently some of my folders like My Computer and other various folders are opening yet show a blank window, like literally blank. There's not even a URL there, just a blank window. I played around with some registry values (which I shouldn't have) and I believe that's the cause of this problem. Also, when i try to delete some of the files inside folders that manage to open before they crash, the delete prompt stalls at 0. Explorer.exe also seems to have multiple holds on single processes. how get my comp back to shape! (Ps. Did like 3 system restores and a virus scan with no results)

I have Mobipocket Reader 6.2 (www.mobipocket.com) installed on Vista Business. In Tools, Settings, Advanced I have eBooks and eNews library location set to C:Program FilesMobipocket.comMobipocket ReaderLibrary, and I have downloaded My Bookshelf contents there. I can't see this folder or its contents in Windows Explorer, and I can't cd to it or dir its contents in command prompt running as administrator, but yet all of the eBooks that I have downloaded to this location are working normally. What is happening? I'd like to manually back up these files to a cd. How do I do that?

Over the last few days, immediately after boot up, a small window pops up on my desktop. It's title is "Preparing to Move". It APPEARS to do precisely nothing and disappears, not to be seen again until I next boot up!
Anybody got an idea what this is all about? Only seems to have been appearing over, say, the last week. OS is Vista Home Premium-64 bit. Look forward with interest to any comments,

For all my photos, unless I view them in "Windows Photo Gallery which is inconvenient. I want to view them in Windows Explorer, I do not see real true thumbnails, I just see this default scene of water, green hills and sky. I have followed the instructions here Thumbnails in Windows Explorer here Default Programs - Program Default Associations (tho I wasn't thrilled about making Windows Photo Gallery my default program for JPG, I followed these instructions anyhow).
I NEVER had a problem like this in XP. I'm beginning to understand why Vista has such a bad reputation. Using (or attempting to use) Vista Home Premium 64-bit, BTW, (much less important question) why doesn't my Photoshop Elements even show up as an option when I set default programs? This problem was annoying before but to still have it after going thru all these forum instructions is really annoying.

About 40% of the time when I either choose HIBERNATE or the standard SHUT DOWN, the computer just keeps on running. Although it seems WINDOW has shut down, the "ON" light is still on and I can hear the fan running. When this happens I am left with no other option but to use the "emergency shut down" method - pressing the ON button for more than 4 seconds (ASUS laptop, using Vista Home Premium). Presumably this method would damage the computer in some ways in the long run?
I assume WINDOW is shut down because the next time when I turn on the computer it doesn't say the "WINDOW is not properly shut down". So can any kind souls please help me with this annoying problem of turning off the computer completely?

I'm trying to network my new Optiplex 740 with Vista Business (32bit), and Norton 360, to my old Euro PC with W2K Pro. and SystemWorks, using basic Belkin /Realtek cards and yellow ethernet cable. My broadband connection is through my old machine and works perfectly, as does the network card installation.
My new machine also indicates that its card is correctly installed and functioning correctly. BUT the Network and Sharing Center window shows this computer as linked to an Unidentified network and no connection to either the other computer or broadband connection.........
