I got Windows Vista home basic, and its activated and all fine. So on my taskbar, whenever i minimize stuff and a tab is there, and i put my mouse over it, no picture comes up. I didn't know why but now I just checked and i right-clicked on taskbar, went to properties, and i looked at the menu and the option for "Show Windows Previews (Thumbnails)" won't let me check it....why?

When I check the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties it shows as greyed but deselected and I have not found a way to enable this option. Similarly under Notification Area Tab the Power option inder System Icons also is greyed and deselected. Can anyone tell me how to select this 'Show Window previews (thumbnails)' and 'Power' options.

View 9 Replies View RelatedNone of my jpeg images show up in any folders, no thumbnails of them, but the bitmat ones show. I have already went in and made sure the show icons instead on thumnails was not checked, I've tried system restore, I've deleted the iconcache folder so it would be rebuilt, I've changed the monitor from 32 to 16 and back to 32 again. And restarted everytime I tried something new. I work in photoshop a lot, so it makes it really hard when you go to open a picture and there's no thumbnails in the folder, any folder. All of my pictures are now just plain ol icons. I've tried everything that I know to do. This is delaying me in a lot of work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI encounterred an awkward problem... i can't see thumbnails in my folder i've tried disk cleanup many times. and I am sure the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is turned off. here is the odd part: when i open a new folder, i can see the thumbnails for about 5-8 seconds, and then the thumbnails disappeared one after another. if i press F5 to refresh, those thumbnails will appear, and 5 secs later turn into icons again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI don't know why this happened, but for some reason whenever I single click on a file the preview pane no longer generates a preview of the file. For files that a preview cannot be generated it still gives me the "no preview available" message, but for files that a preview should be present the preview pane just goes blank.
The most common files I use the preview pane for are .txt, .doc, .wmv, and other image files. Strangely enough, images still show in the pane, but I have had no luck with other files. My default program for videos is still Windows Media Player 11 and my default .txt program is Wordpad [I use Word for .doc]. Is there a way to simply reset this feature or could someone
For all my photos, unless I view them in "Windows Photo Gallery which is inconvenient. I want to view them in Windows Explorer, I do not see real true thumbnails, I just see this default scene of water, green hills and sky. I have followed the instructions here Thumbnails in Windows Explorer here Default Programs - Program Default Associations (tho I wasn't thrilled about making Windows Photo Gallery my default program for JPG, I followed these instructions anyhow).
I NEVER had a problem like this in XP. I'm beginning to understand why Vista has such a bad reputation. Using (or attempting to use) Vista Home Premium 64-bit, BTW, (much less important question) why doesn't my Photoshop Elements even show up as an option when I set default programs? This problem was annoying before but to still have it after going thru all these forum instructions is really annoying.
I used to be able of seeing thumbnails and previews for .wmf files in Windows XP, but never the same in Windows Vista. How to make Windows Vista able to generate previews and thumbnails for these files?

I have tried everything mentioned on this forum (clearing/rebuilding thumbnail cache, turned on thumbnail preview, checked/unchecked what I needed to). Ive done this numerous times and yet i still cannot preview thumbnails. Whether it be jpegs, gifs, avis, wmvs etc. I also noticed that my files do not end in .jpg, .gif, .avi when trying to view as thumbnails.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't really know how long ago this problem started I didn't really notice it at first but the previews for alt tabbing between programs along with the previews when hovering over the minimized program show up like the alt tabbing in Windows XP. Also my Windows key-tab does not work. Any ideas to what could be causing this? I checked my settings and they seem to be the same as when the previews where working. Is there some setting i could have accidental changed?

Sometimes when she uses the hyperlink, documents that have recently been saved to the folder do not show in the Windows Explorer that is launched. She can however launch another Explorer and see all of the documents (with both explorer sessions open side by side).

I made a user's account for XXX. In Windows Explorer my user XXX does not show up. User HP does, and it has all my documents. I don't want the path to all my stuff to go like "C:UsersHPDocuments" , I want it to be "C:UsersXXXDocuments". When I go to user account through Control Panel > User accounts the user HP is *not* shown, user XXX *is shown*. User HP is not visible either if I go to "manage other accounts"

The Start - Computer - properties - option does not show it under Windows Edition as described in one post. I go to Windows Update and cant find it listed there as installed updates. Pretty sure now that its not installed. go to the download page and it directs me to Windows update for single PC downloads, WU takes over and says I am fully up to date! Advice in other posts says to let WU take care of it and it will download and install SP1.

View 4 Replies View Relatedproblem with wmp 11 is that for some reason it takes a good 20+ seconds to play a song. Video streaming is fine, it's just with mp3 format songs. Not only is there a time lag for mp3 song files but it will always start skipping for the last 10 seconds of the file. It never fails, I must wait half a minute whenever I click a song and then it WILL skip during the end. I can't reinstall it for some reason either. It doesn't show up in the add or remove programs list. I can't express my annoyence enough, having such a large library of music.

only way i can get them to display is to press the "Views" button 4 times then stop on the large icon view which displays properly:

Whenever I view a folder (stored on a CD) with photo files using windows explorer it does not show the small pictures. Instead the standard windows icon/picture is shown. The pictures are visible for a short moment and then replaced by the default windows icon picture. This problem does not occur when I via a folder with photo files located on the harddisk. I use Windows Vista home premium (dutch version)
