I have windows vista home basic, installed on my laptop and I am having a problem with the sound recorder. Everytime I open it up, a window pops up saying, "Windows Sound Recorder is not installed properly. Run REGSVR32 WavDest.Dll." How do i go about fixing this problem?

I need MPEG Layer-3!I’ve installed my old XP Sound Recorder into my new (Vista) computer. It works… but lacks the MPEG Layer-3 Format I need for compressing WAVs.In his earlier reply to me at http://www.vistax64.com/sound-audio/189750-vista-vs-xp-sound-recorder.html , sanantonio007 says he can now access MPEG Layer-3 in XP Sound Recorder after following Brady Lee’s instructions here: This Missing CODEC thing is making me crazy Lee’s instructions say that the “missing” codec problem is due to a Windows/System 32 file that should read l3codecp.acm instead of l3codeca.acm. Lee goes on to describe a regedit modification to change the l3codeca.acm file to l3codecp.acm.
However, I already have a l3codecp.acm file in Windows/System 32 (as well as the “erroneous” l3codeca.acm.) So that doesn’t look like my solution. Someone else told me that if I downloaded the MPEG Layer-3 codec from a dbpoweramp music converter link, it would install itself everywhere - & my XP Sound Recorder would be back up and running. Has anyone tried that? Does anyone know if (or where) I could get just the dbpoweramp MPEG Layer-3 codec, & not lots of other stuff I don’t need or want? I like MS but hate it when they screw around with a good program. Sound Recorder in Pre-Vista Windows was a simple but useful program. Sound Recorder in Vista is a severly crippled version that only records in one format without being able to select other compression formats.
I copied Sound Recorder from XP (renamed it Sound Recorder XP) and copied it to my Vista machine. It works but only has the "stock" compression options. I installed l3codeca.acm (Mpeg Layer3) and placed it in my System32 folder but it still doesn't show up as an option in Sound Recorder XP.
How can I get the Mpeg Layer3 option to show up as an option in Sound Recorder XP on Vista? Can I even do this? I remeber seeing something about MS changing something in Vista so it won't recognize MP3 code programs.
I keep getting a yellow exclamation point on windows start navigation sound I can go in and select it and it works for the time it is selected. but as soon as I reboot the yellow exclamation point comes back how do I fix this can someone help me please it annoying and aggravating to have to turn that on all the time. I even did a system restore back to yesterday thinking I did something to it no go still dose it. nothing else broken all works good sound everything just not this one.

Now on the back the out ports work for all the wires but when I try to plug into the mic one on the back it doesn't. So I`m either suck with a mic that sounds like i`m miles away and great sound, Or i`m with a great mic and decent sound(just front speakers). It works on the front however but on the front there is only room for a front speaker. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Hewlett Packard SR5401UK pc running Vista 32-bit it has onboard graphics & sound but I've just installed an NVIDIA 8800gs graphics card, the card works fine but for some reason the sound has disappeared!! i've just updated the realtek drivers but still have the problem!! it worked fine before installing the g.card , whats even more strange is that when i plug in my headphones i can hear sound but nothing at all through the speakers!!
When i installed the 8800gs it disabled the onboard g.card automatically itself i was wondering if it has done the same with the sound? but if it had i wouldnt be able to hear sound through the headphones right? device manager says the sound is working fine!
I installed an audio card (Sound Blaster X-Fi model SB046APCS) and I can't hear any sound comming out of my PC (I build it myself). The sound tests tell me everyting is working OK and that there are no confilcts with the card. Yesterday I downloaded the Vista audio driver SBXF_PCDVT_LB_2_15_0004.exe from Creative and still no sound. When performing the diagnostics, I can see a green color going up and down in the sound bar but thats all.
I have an Intel DX38BT motherboard, do I have to disable whatvever options there are for audio in the BIOS or the motherboard disables it when it detects an audio card installed? The sound card is recognized by the hardware manager. The dvd burners installed are the Plextor 810SA (sata) and the Memorex dvd burner(model 32023220). I have placed the music cd in both, with the same result, no sound can be heard. The speakers I am using are the JBL Creature (which works OK on my other pc).
I have a Vista Business 32bit OS and am hving trouble solving the famous 'no- sound' mystery. I tried the simplest way of solving it:
1. Downloaded the Realtek AC'97 driver (as guided by some other forum: No sound with Windows Vista)
2. Tried installing by running up 'setup.exe'.
3. All was well till Vista came up with this message: 'Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software' and had two options:- Don't install this driver software. install this driver anyway
I tried using the 2nd option - nothing happened and the same message popped up. The 1st option obviously quit the installation process. What do I do? It is frustrating to have a computer without sound and nothing to be done about it.

I want to remove the windows start up sound for my vista. even if my computer's sound is off before I shut down my computer, it makes a big noise when I start up.
I went to control panel/ sound and I unchecked the box next to "play windows startup sound" but this was not helpful. still I hear the same noise when I start my computer.
I just upgraded to Vista U x64 and am having sound problems. I have a prelude x-fi sound card but the sound coming out of it is extremely low. I have maxed out every thing I can max (control panel sound, creative panel) and the sound level is whisper quiet. I have also upgraded all my drivers except the prelude's, I would but their website isn't offering those drivers at the moment. But the drivers supplied with the card are vista certified so I should get something. But my mobo, etc is all updated. I have been searching for a solution for two days to no avail.

I can use the windows mail to send and receive mail but when I click on an email address from the internet, it says that it can't do that because the default mail client is not properly installed. I've been to the control panel and when I go to default programs, I only get Windows Mail (News) to show up. I can go into options within the mail program and set it to

The thumbnails that appear when you move the cursor over minimized applications or windows now don't show the contents of the window properly, apart (it seems!) from Windows Mail....all the others are blank with a small square icon in the middle. Anyone noticed that?

(Having said that, I get it even when doing simple taks like listening to music or watching movies on iTunes/Windows Media Player.) View 8 Replies View RelatedI just acquired what seems to be a really old PCIe ATI card that I can't seem to install correctly. I went to the ATI support site and the drivers for the card just don't seem to work. Is there a specific order to follow when installing a GPU -- sorry, its been a while. It doesn't go into a PCI slot but its the bigger one, looks like a big ole' AGP card but it has a sticker right on the card that says PCIe. I can only find the drivers for a Radeon HD2600XT and I'm not sure if those are the correct drivers or not. When I first installed it everything went well and it installed correctly but the XP hardware wizard wasn't satisfied. So it doesn't fully install -- note, I do not have the original discs -- but just need the most up to date drivers.

I do not know much about it as it is not mine, but the problem is the audio was cutting out and now there is nothing. The computer is not recognizing any type of audio device installed. Even in Device Manager, there is no option for Sound, game and controllers. I have tried downloading the driver and installing, but no luck there.

While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.
Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.
I just got a new laptop with vista a few months ago. Everything ran smoothly until recently when I went to turn it on and got an error message that???s repeated ever since. It shows the black 'vista' page, the screen turns black, and after a while a box pops up reading; 'window error recovery' A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It suggests I launch startup Repair. However when I do so it says "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically."
I've tried going into system recovery options and using system restore to a date when it was working correctly, but it seemed to have no effect. while back I had a Windows XP PC but it got dumb and crashed. So I just got my new Tower Which is Windows Vista-x64(Home Premium.) On my old machine I had a game I new and loved called Rayman 2 that isn't compatible to Vista. So my only option was to install it under Microsoft VPC 2007. It did Install but It wouldn't play. Here is the issue: I go To play the game and an error pops up that said I need to install DirectX 6.0 so I did. It didnt matter tho cuz I still had the error. So then I realized the error as telling me to configure the Graphics so It had another error when I Opened The "GXSetup."
Which was this: error1.jpg It Didn't Really matter because it still let me open the exe. But HERE IS WHERE THE REAL PROBLEM STARTED. The program successfully opened! But This is what it contained: MajorError.jpg My only thought was what the f*ck I am going to scream. Because from what it looks like Virtual PC Wasn't Detecting Much or anything at all to do with Graphics (the dropdown arrows contain absolutely nothing).
I have a question. The information tag that pops up when you mouse over an item in windows quickly disappears when you first directly mouse over the file or folder and will reappear for as long as you want it to if you point near the bottom of the selected item. Is this a normal thing or a bug in Vista? Has anyone else ever noticed this? Sorry for the explanation, I don't know of any other way to put it. Is there a Tutorial for this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy vista keeps locking up after various amounts of time, no matter whether its just idling, or im making the computer work hard. As ive read on other topics, I think its a driver issue, but I just dont know what to do. I will try another fresh vista install tomorrow and get the vista updates quickly to see whether that helps the situation. I have ensured it isnt overheating like it did initially when I bought the system, and it is now a safe and low temperature in a running state. Also, it only detects 3.5Gb of the 4Gb of RAM I have in my system. PC Spec:
Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.
I shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... Late last year I successfully installed AoE II on my computer and was able to play it in Windows 98 compatibility without any issues. More recently whenever I try to play it, the window "Age of Empires II has stopped working." pops up.
I have updated patches, I have tried using files from a flash drive, I've tried installing and reinstalling, disabling graphics card, and many of the other suggestions read on this forum, none of which worked for me. I also installed the Trial version, and ironically, it works perfectly fine.
i bought a 64 bit version of vista and i have built a new system with an asus p5e mobo 4gb of ram 8800 gt graphics and everything shows to install at the complete installation time it reboots and it then tells me windows did not shut down properly and and give me the safe mode option or boot windows normally when i hit safe mode it says it cannot boot into safe mode and when i hit boot normally it says the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected problem and cannot proceed. to install press ok to restart and start the whole installation process over again. i have tried everything and can't figure it out plzzzz
