I have a question. The information tag that pops up when you mouse over an item in windows quickly disappears when you first directly mouse over the file or folder and will reappear for as long as you want it to if you point near the bottom of the selected item. Is this a normal thing or a bug in Vista? Has anyone else ever noticed this? Sorry for the explanation, I don't know of any other way to put it. Is there a Tutorial for this?
View 4 RepliesWe need to run one of our large 16bit Visual Basic 3.0 applications on Vista Ultimate (32bit) while we rewrite the app in VB .Net. So far I have been able to install the VB3 app, and even the VB3 dev, on Vista and with a few small changes all runs well except for printing from the VB app. We use the VB PrintForm command to print a screen image from the app. All works well under Windows XP but under Vista nothing prints. Watching the Print Queue for the default printer, a job starts then quickly disappears from the queue with nothing printed.
The VB3 app can see the printer and the printer properties OK using Printer Setup (Common Dialog VBX). Printing works fine from Word 2003 and other 32 bit apps on the PC. I have tried several printers, all work OK under Vista except for the 16 bit apps. I have tried running the app as Admin and changing compatibilty properties. Does Vista support any printing from 16 bit apps?
I have a folder where I store read e-mails that has suddenly disappeared. It is not in the trash and there is no record of it when looking in the file directory. How can a whole folder suddenly disapear?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThey have Vista and Windows Mail with email through Telus. They were set up with an IMAP account but she was encountering problems with "mailbox too full". So I decided to switch her to POP3 not realizing that I had to do that through Telus not just through the Tools, Accounts area. I created a new POP3 account, deleted the IMAP account, when I realized that deleted all her messages from the inbox I deleted the POP3 account and recreated the IMAP account. Then I contacted Telus and found out they had to make the IMAP to POP3 change on their end. I saved the messages she wanted to keep and had Telus make the change.
I then deleted the IMAP account and created a new POP3 account and sent a test message to it. I checked the webmail and the message showed up in webmail but when I clicked send/receive the system checks for messages and says "no new messages" but the messages disappear from webmail. At no point do I get an error message...........
The computer has worked fine since then, I've used the internet at wi-fi hotspots around my city, with never a single problem...until last night. While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.
Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.
I have Vista running in dual boot mode on a C2D 2.0ghz laptop (2 gigs ram). I usually run in XP as it seems to be much faster. Are there tweaks I can do to make Vista run with the same amount of get up & go?

These were mostly some of my .mp3s I've downloaded from the internet or ripped from a CD. So I'm wondering, why are some of my .mp3s automatically indexed the way they're suppose to be and some aren't? Also, is there an easier way to find out which files aren't indexed rather than having to check it in properties for each file? That takes a long time...

I have to keep an eye on it to locate it again for the next drag for the length of one page only. Can it be dragged to the top of the list immediately?

I watch this for many years, and long time before I analyzed this to see, whether my release of the cap key is delayed. It was not, sure, but I don't fret about. Now, with Gigahertz CPU and Vista, perhaps there is a way to adjust this behavior.
ive been having problems with the tilde key on my Asus laptop. at first it was that it didint work at all, in games, in microsoft works, or notepad. i went searching online and disabled the driver for the eHome ir receiver (even though i dont own an ir receivers). after that i was able to use the tild key only outside of games. but heres the strange part, if i press the tild key quickly as if i were typing normaly, it dose not register. in order to use it i have to hold down the tilde key for about 1-2 seconds before it would spit out a stream of "````````````". then i could delete up to the first one. this is true for the laptops keyboard, and a wired dell keyboard i connected using usb.........

All has worked very well, but lately every so often (not all the time) when I click send on an email it disappears and does not get sent, and a message comes up and says windows mail had a problem and to check windows for new updates. The computer has all new updates. So I have to create my email all over and click send again and then it goes. This is frustrating when it is a long email to someone and it is just gone. Where does it go? I can't find it anywhere. It's just gone.
Has this happened to anyone? I have turned off the antispam feature on Norton to see if this helps, I'll keep you updated as it may be days before it does it again. Like I said it only does it every once in awhile, specially when it is real important.

I have the game World of Warcraft installed, when it downloads the updates for it it says 'your computer appears to be behind a firewall' which prevents it from installing all the way completely. I have disabled Windows Firewall but it still pops up. Is there anything that I can do to fix this so that that error messsage doesnt pop up anymore.

Ever since I switched to Windows Vista Enterprise Edition 32 Bit I have been having some problems with my dual-monitor set up. My computer is a Fujitsu Tablet PC and is about 2 years old, and my external monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster941BW. For some reason once I go and use the intel display options and set up the extended desktop everything appears to be fine. However when the Windows Vista security screen pops up asking for you permission for a specified action it gets rid of my extended desktop and just kicks everything back to only my laptops display. This also happens when restarting the computer and doing "Ctrl + alt + delete" to open the task manager. It is extremely frustrating and I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? I am not sure if it is just a problem with vista or if I need a new driver since updating from xp, even though my computer says it is the latest driver for the monitor.

The delete icons pops up but takes forever to complete and never goes away, yet the files transfer or delete within a few seconds just like they should. The only way I could get rid of them without a restart was to start task manager and remoeve them that way, and even that took a while. Attached is a screenshot of about 10 icons that were not closing. It seemed as if they would stay their forever if you would let them.
