View 4 RepliesMy son's HP laptop (Vista Basic, Firefox, 1.5 GB RAM) has been running quite well with MBAM, SuperAntiSpyware Professional installed for about a month.
All of sudden the free-to-try version of SuperAntiSpyware professional says it's expired after only 30 days. An uninstall and re-install did nothing.---the programs still says it's expired right after the install completes. It's possible that a system restore was done a few weeks ago for another issue.
If we tried to download a fresh version of the program to a flash drive and Run if from there, would that set the timer clock back to zero?
Does anyone have a work-around so that we can get either another year on this program or the rest of the time `due us' back?
I have Vista running in dual boot mode on a C2D 2.0ghz laptop (2 gigs ram). I usually run in XP as it seems to be much faster. Are there tweaks I can do to make Vista run with the same amount of get up & go?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI figured out why some of my files weren't turning up in search, it was because they weren't indexed. These were mostly some of my .mp3s I've downloaded from the internet or ripped from a CD. So I'm wondering, why are some of my .mp3s automatically indexed the way they're suppose to be and some aren't? Also, is there an easier way to find out which files aren't indexed rather than having to check it in properties for each file? That takes a long time...

I have to keep an eye on it to locate it again for the next drag for the length of one page only. Can it be dragged to the top of the list immediately?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe need to run one of our large 16bit Visual Basic 3.0 applications on Vista Ultimate (32bit) while we rewrite the app in VB .Net. So far I have been able to install the VB3 app, and even the VB3 dev, on Vista and with a few small changes all runs well except for printing from the VB app. We use the VB PrintForm command to print a screen image from the app. All works well under Windows XP but under Vista nothing prints. Watching the Print Queue for the default printer, a job starts then quickly disappears from the queue with nothing printed.
The VB3 app can see the printer and the printer properties OK using Printer Setup (Common Dialog VBX). Printing works fine from Word 2003 and other 32 bit apps on the PC. I have tried several printers, all work OK under Vista except for the 16 bit apps. I have tried running the app as Admin and changing compatibilty properties. Does Vista support any printing from 16 bit apps?
I use a laptop w/ vista business in my work truck. As i have traveled around for the last 7 months with it on its stand in the front seat it has connected to over 800 wireless networks. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a question. The information tag that pops up when you mouse over an item in windows quickly disappears when you first directly mouse over the file or folder and will reappear for as long as you want it to if you point near the bottom of the selected item. Is this a normal thing or a bug in Vista? Has anyone else ever noticed this? Sorry for the explanation, I don't know of any other way to put it. Is there a Tutorial for this?

I watch this for many years, and long time before I analyzed this to see, whether my release of the cap key is delayed. It was not, sure, but I don't fret about. Now, with Gigahertz CPU and Vista, perhaps there is a way to adjust this behavior.
ive been having problems with the tilde key on my Asus laptop. at first it was that it didint work at all, in games, in microsoft works, or notepad. i went searching online and disabled the driver for the eHome ir receiver (even though i dont own an ir receivers). after that i was able to use the tild key only outside of games. but heres the strange part, if i press the tild key quickly as if i were typing normaly, it dose not register. in order to use it i have to hold down the tilde key for about 1-2 seconds before it would spit out a stream of "````````````". then i could delete up to the first one. this is true for the laptops keyboard, and a wired dell keyboard i connected using usb.........

I went into my setup and changed my user password from set to clear but left my other passwords at set. when I exited and saved changes and rebooted I could not get back in with any and all passwords. To make things worse I cannot boot from cd either. It goes to press <F2> go to setup , Enter Current Password: ? then Invalad password I have tried the F10, F12, Del, F5, F8 keys and nothing seems to get past that login screen. Does anyone have any inexpensive suggestions on how I can get into this computer, or how I can get to a command prompt. Can I un-solder the internal Battery and then re attach it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have my computer, and I need to set a password, but if I do, what happens is that it loads the user selection screen first, even though I'm the only user. Because of that, if I turn on my computer, go downstairs to do something, and come back up 5 minutes later, the computer will be stuck on the user selection screen, whereas if I don't have a password, it'll automatically load all the applications (this takes a while...).
Is there any way to still have to enter a password to unlock the computer, but so that Windows would first load all the programs, and THEN ask me for a password?
anybody knows how can i unlock my pc if i don't have the password.

I have heard of the "administrator password" for a super-administrator.
But I have never "set" the "administrator password" or "super admin
password".
I do, however, have a user account with admin privileges that I set a
password to.
Is that the same thing? Does my creating a user account with admin
privileges and password make the password for the super-admin the same, or
will the vista admin password still remain blank?
I'm wondering if this is the case, if a hacker tried to break into my system
to grab files, if I never set the administrator/super-admin password, does
that mean there is none, and they just walk right in,
or does it default to the password I have on my user account with admin
privileges?
My daughters forgotten her password on her laptop, i have tried all the usual methods to get in to it but to no avail, in both normal and safe mode, we don't have the XP disc as she bought the laptop from a friend, i have even thought about downloading ophcrack but it seems a bit long winded and a little confusing.

I am overseas for a while. So to be able to access my Vista computer at home, I installed Log Me In program, which works great for me in other environments. However, I've found out that I can't access my PC because the account on my Vista box does not have a password set (e.g. it's blank). Log Me In, it turns out, requires a password.
However, I am able to get to other computers (all running Windows XP) on my home network (i have 4 PCs in the house doing various things) via Remote Desktop and VNC. My question is whether it is possible to remotely (via Windows XP computers that are on my network) change the password for the account on my Vista computer?
It just happened now, after almost 2 years. When I open WM, it asks for my username and password, every time. Before I do a system restore, I 'd like to know if there is reason for that, and if there is another way to fix this annoyance.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (a special waadaad Promo version I received at the #PopTech! Conference last October) via VMWare on my Mac. I only use this for Quicken, and it's been a couple of months since I've opened it. I need to get in there ASAP, as I have a meeting with my accountant and need to make major updates by Monday. I have not created a password reset disk, and I definitely do NOT want to lose the Quicken data I already have entered.
