Random Freezing: Re-installed, Windows, And It Froze After I Installed The Chipset Driver
Mar 30, 2008
My vista keeps locking up after various amounts of time, no matter whether its just idling, or im making the computer work hard. As ive read on other topics, I think its a driver issue, but I just dont know what to do. I will try another fresh vista install tomorrow and get the vista updates quickly to see whether that helps the situation. I have ensured it isnt overheating like it did initially when I bought the system, and it is now a safe and low temperature in a running state. Also, it only detects 3.5Gb of the 4Gb of RAM I have in my system. PC Spec:
Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.
I shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... Once again Go figure!! Running Vista Business 32bit here in the good old USA and of course the English versionVista is and has always been updated right on schedule....
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750. I'm seeing an "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver" update and it shows a list of chipsets, but mine is nothing like the ones listed. Intel® G41 Express Chipset Intel® G43 Express Chipset Intel® G45 Express Chipset Intel® G31 Express Chipset Intel® G33 Express Chipset Intel® G35 Express Chipset Intel® Q33 Express Chipset Intel® Q35 Express Chipset Intel® Q43 Express Chipset Intel® Q45 Express Chipset Intel® 82G965 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub Intel® 82Q965 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub Intel® 82Q963 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub Intel® 82946GZ Graphics Controller Intel® 82945G Express Chipset Are any of these it? I'm unable to find what it would be called. Even doing a google search did nothing.
I made the mistake of plugging my Wacom pen tablet in before installing the driver. Vista recognised the device and installed a default driver which does not work. The Driver installation disk will not install untill the default driver is uninstalled. How do i do this?
let me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........
when I installed an 8500GT Nvidia graphics card. The system would run for a little then completly lock up. All I would be left with was an EventID: 6008 in the Event Viewer once I reset. Once I remove the 8500GT and run on the onboard 3200HD drivers all is well. Nothing locks up the system responds fine. I dont think the system is infected with anything as this is a fresh install on a fresh hard drive. Previously the system ran with XP on a different hard drive (120gb, the 320 was storage) and had no trouble with lockups. I'm not sure what the problem could be. Originally, I thought it might be power supply--but after trying a 430watt nothign changed.
For all you 680i users running Vista 32bit AND successfully using sleep mode, please post your settings here... "Successfully" means that:
1. Your system actually wakes up and none of your devices, such as mouse, keyboard, usb drives, bluetooth, and other devices, etc. are disconnected and/or malfunctioning...
2. In particular, are you still connected to the internet without resetting your network adapter (presuming you were connected before bedtime and presuming you're using the on-board NIC)
post your chipset driver versions and sleep mode settings... My settings are listed below and my system WON'T SLEEP "successfully"... bluetooth mouse and keyboard crash, and my internet connection is trashed:.....
I was wondering if anybody out there is having freezing/random restart problems using Asus' p6t deluxe MOBO or having problems using Corsair's 6GB 1333Mhz ddr3 tri channel (TR3X6G1333C9) while using Ultimate64.
On the demise of my old computer, I've bought a shiny new one, complete with Windows Vista. I've had it four days, and so far it's only crashed twice. Is this... normal? The other thing it does is randomly stop for 15-20 seconds, and then start working again, as if nothing has happened.
I've not even been doing anything particularly strenuous; just browsing the internet and playing music, when suddenly the music stops, and the computer does nothing for 20 seconds, and then it's back. Anyone know what the problem might be with this, and if there's anything I can do about it?
1 month out of warranty my laptop HD broke, typical. It had pre-installed windows XP on it. (i never got round to making a restore/bootable CD) I've fitted a new drive and I fancy getting Vista HP. As I own a copy of XP (although on a non-working drive) I should only need to upgrade. However all the info I can find says that the upgrade must be started from within the previous system. Anybody any idea what my options are?? What are the price differences between the full and upgrade options??
Vista is constantly freezing up, and I really like to fix it, The cooling is good enough, The power is good enough, And the memory seems fine since I already did a memtest. It freezes at random times while doing things like browsing the web or playing a game, Ive used XP before and it had the same problem
I've just spent a fair amount of time getting Vista Ultimate x64 running quite well thank you very much, now MS is saying Windows 7 will be available late 2009 or early 2010.So after spending a decent amount of hard earned cash on Vista will there be an upgrade version for Vista users or will I have to purchase "7" and waste my Vista installations???.
You are a GOD...without the appropriate bowing. I have been stressing for 3 solid days since I installed Windows 7. I have been unable to use and hear sound (through 'test' or 'monitor') using my mic in Ventrilo. So many forums speaking about which client version to use in order for my sounds of joy to be heard when I all of a sudden happened onto this forum with your praises of the Titanium Fatal1ty sound card from Creative. It worked just fine with XP x64 via the simple 'Line-In' 3.5 mm jack on the card, but did not work with Win7. But like you explained about the AC '97 hook up from the FP, which was something I used in my final google/yahoo search, wolla (or viola, depending on where you heard it first) I HAVE VOICE.
i have a vista home premium 64-bit system i tryed to install the vsita SP1 i got this error message: "windows vista service pack 1 cannot be installed on your computer because you are using the wrong installer version for your architecture please use the 64-bit installer"
For the past week or so, Windows Updates list some updates, but when I click INSTALL, it then state PREPARING TO INSTALL, and after a few minutes it just gives me an error that SOME UPDATE WERE NOT INSTALLED, and it is all the updates that are not installed. When it is for Defender I can always go downloaded them manually, but the others I can not because I do not know how to find them, so I would like to know how to fix this the error is WindowsUpdate_80246008
Could you pls check if your Vista has Windows Installer installed? two places in registry to look for it, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstall or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftActive SetupInstalled Components use regedit to access registry info (be careful not change anything!).
a) I don't have a vista os box myself; b) I'd like to see if most of the vista boxes out there has windows installer installed already and if yes, which version has the most installed base.
i just installed windows vista, then when i went to try to get a new theme, i realized i dont have aero, no glass, no cool window flip thingy (windows key + tab). I have vista 32bit home premium, and an ATI Radeon X1250 [acer P221Wx].
I'm not sure where else to post this, and I've searched around for it. Basically, I had to restart Vista, when it started back up it did a consistency check on the C drive. Then, once I got into Vista, one of my two notes and the clock vanished. I cannot get them back.
1)Clock does not show on Add Gadgets, but there is a Clock.Gadget in "C:Program FilesWindows SidebarGadgets" 2)Also, under the Windows Sidebar Properties a) "Restore gadgets installed with Windows" is disabled b) "View list of running gadgets" shows me two instances of Notes,
when only one is visible -- and I don't want to remove it because I don't want to lose the content there. How do I give the Sidebar a kick to bring it back to reality?
I got 2 new 1 Gig PNY sticks of RAM, and installed them and now my comp won't show but 894 Mb of it. And to top it off I have to use more virtual memory until i can figure this out.
How can i export Installed Windows Updates ( displayed in add and remove program list)I tried with quick fix engineering.ouput has some difference comparing to add and remove program list.
When trying to access my bank accounts via Quicken 2007 I receive the messages "the windows installer service could not be accessed......... Windows installer is not correctly installed." Any ideas what the problem is and how to resolve the issue? I am new to my 64 bit Vista system. I have no problems with other programs that I have loaded since getting this new POC.
Have just reloaded Windows Home Premium, but although Windows Movie Maker files were saved and reinstalled, when I open these only title cards are still there, all pictures added are shown with a red cross as is added music. Where did I go wrong, and can the situation be retreived?
Microsoft Support for Windows Vista (with no service packs installed) ends on April 13, 2010, while support for Windows XP (without Service Pack 3 installed) ends on July 13, 2010. Windows 2000 support will end on July 13, 2010 as well. * There is no Service Pack 3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with SP2, you have the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014. What Does It Mean When Support for My Operating System Ends?
If you are still running a version of Windows where support has ended, it means that version of Windows will no longer receive any updates from the Windows Update or Microsoft Update site. These updates are generally provided for security reasons to help protect the PC from harmful viruses, spyware, malware, and other malicious software. Windows Update also provides new drivers for your hardware that can improve the reliability of Windows. Hackers love to take a security vulnerability in Windows and exploit it to their advantage. So, if a vulnerability is found in Windows XP or Windows Vista and you are not running the latest service pack, you will not be protected and will be at risk.
How Can I Tell What Service Pack is Installed? Follow these steps to discover what Service Pack is installed: 1) Click on the Start Button 2) Right-click on either My Computer or Computer (depending on your Windows version) 3) Click on Properties
i have reg. mechanic 8 installed on my p.c. vista 32 bit .every time i try to start the program windows stops me and says it has a problem. i had it on my p.c. befare and it worked fine. when i restart my pc i see conflicts with anti-malware and windows defender interfering with the reg. mechanic from starting. the web start says the program has no conflicts with other software. would it be my anti-malware program a-squared be the one doing it?
I recently just re-installed Windows Vista Ultimate and before i had no problems what so ever. But... now when i tried downloading a file to the downloads folder or anywhere els it does not save. I have searched the whole drive C and nothing. can you help me? i also noticed when installing AVG it doesn't run. When installing Dreamweaver could not find dreamweaver folder in /Adobe/
There's a file on my D drive called ntldr. I understand that this is a vital part of windows, however this file is on a hard drive which windows ISN'T installed on now. Windows XP used to be on this drive about 2 years ago but when i got a new hard drive back then, i installed windows on that (C) new hard drive (and have since installed Vista on) and removed it from the one which is now D drive. Since this is not the HD which houses my OS, can i delete ntldr? UPDATE: and ntdetect.com as well.
I installed service pack 3 and it had an error message. The screen will not allow windows to boot. for three days now it says reverting changes and stays there. It won't even boot into safe mode. What do i do? how do i even get past it to save my info and reformat?
I do not have reinstall option on CD of windows vista, and i have found major problems after i do system restore, I just need to upgrade or doing something to reinstall windows on same folder as CD gives me new installation no upgrade, And i want replace installation to replace files and install windows again and keeping updates and upgrades i done to the windows. also, to keep software installed, i used to do that in windows XP but could not do it in Vista as no option for upgrade, or install windows on same folder so that not losing the files or programs installed.
