A few weeks ago my computer died from a windows update it automatically did, i managed to get back onto the computer by booting my OS disk to save my files and now i need to completly restore my computer back to factory settings. I Don't want to restore it back to a certain point, or repair my system as i log on, which is all i seem to be able to find in other posts, i just want to completly restore it back to day 1. F11 doesnt work when i turn my computer on (yes im doing it right and ive tried it LOTS of times), F8 brings up a screeen i dont want, booting from teh OS disk just boots the pc normally and alt F10 doesnt seem to be bringing the page that i need up, just an editing page.

I am using a HP Pavilion dv6000 running Windows Vista Home Premium. My computer has numerous problems: it won’t load certain websites, windows updates won’t work, I can’t load or re-download windows defender, I can’t download software from Microsoft.com…..and so on and so on. I have searched and searched the internet and tried many solutions from many different forums with none of them working. My last resort is to restore the system to factory settings however that too presents a problem. The files in my HP_Recovery drive have been deleted and the recovery disks that I created were lost when I moved. I know it’s a long shot, but is there any way I can restore my system to factory settings without the HP_Recovery partition or recovery disks?
I need to do a complete factory reset on my Gateway. The restore discs that Gateway sent me no longer work (I've had to factory reset previously) and the OS disc that Gateway sent me isn't reading in my T-6835 laptop. Since I reset my hard drive previously, I don't have Gateway Recovery Manager. I do have a recovery partition though, but I can't access it for some reason or another. I have tried tapping alt + f10, f10, and r at the beginning but to no avail.
I have used my HP m7763w with Vista Home Premium for more than 2 years now, and finally got to the point of having to use my rescue CDs to reformat the HD and reset to factory setting. Unfortunately, I get frequent error messages now, and missing file notices, and Windows Update refuses to work. I understand that the old factory settings are way outdated by now, but what am I supposed to do to get it all working right, if Windows Update fails?
I just restored my Dell Inspiron to it's original factory settings. It has Vista Home 32 bit. I got the "Reset was succesfull" screen. Now at start up I get my user name (there was always only one user acct.) and when I type my password it does not accept my password. It may be possible that when I purchased the computer three years ago I used a different password and then changed it and have just orgatten that I did that but I doubt it. Should I just throw this thing away or is ther any solution to get past the welcome screen?
I had to do a disc recovery which took me back to factory settings. Most things are required to be set up from scratch. Do I have to set up my e-mail account all over again?
I have a problem with the security settings in IE7. Everytime I reboot my settings change and I have to restore them. I have the settings set in custom level to allow programmatic clipboard access but it disables that and some other settings after a reboot. what I can do to make my settings stick?
I had a HP PC running windows vista home basic, it crashed and was not able to boot in vista. Startup repair or safe mode did not work, so inorder to save data I installed vista business on top of it. The data is recovered and now when I try to boot to the factory restore it does not work, noticed in msconfig under boot.ini tab there is no boot record to the factory restore partition. Is there a way I can add in the record so that If I press F11 my PC will boot into the factory restore partition?
my computer keeps locking up betweenpages and sites also having problem with typing letters keep falling off words in sentence not sure weather 1 has anything to do with other--Question if i go back to factory settings what would happen to my upgrades and other stuff thaks Linda
I was recently given a Medion desktop pc (its a second hand one), and i want to recover it back to factory settings. I got nothing with the pc, no disks or anything. It has one HDD which is partitioned into two drives, one of which is called "recover" and contains what i assume to be files that will reset the pc to factory settings and install all of the orginal content again. This drive has no .exe file in it, or any other file extention that i can do anything with. The appears to be no program that i can find that will recover the pc.
how i restore it factory settings? Confused_ms p.s. The DVD-rom is not working at the min, so even if i did have a disk i wouldnt be able to use it. p.p.s. The pc has 2.8ghz processer (pentium D), 250gb HDD, 1GB RAM, Vista home prem OS Btw, the pc also has no internet connection, however i do have another computor so i can download things and transfer them over. (i cant set up my internet connection because they drivers i need to run the wireless adapter are on a CD and i currently cant run Cd's) edit: I think i might be making progress (assumin im heading on the right track?), when i press F10 during start-up i get the following come up on screen: EDIT BOOT OPTIONS Edit Windows boot options for: Microsoft windows Vista Path: windowssystem32winload.exe Partition: 1 Hard Disk: cb352c78 [ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN ] Then is says ENTER=submit ESC=Cancel Now am i right in thinking that the partition needs to be changed to 2? if so how to i do it, becasue it wont simply let me change it as the only thing i have acess to is the bit in [](thats the only bit i can change or type in).
Everytime i turn my computer on i get the blue screen of death i can't restore to factory defaults by CTRL+F11 or from CD... Last known good configuration doesn't work neither.
Would someone know of any utility or method to restore a SATA hard drive's factory full capacity size? During partitioning my drive, it went from 595GB (640GB Drive) to only 32GB. Since it is a 64-Bit system, I can't find a utility to restore the drive's full capacity.
I just installed Vista and i'm trying to restore de default .ico settings. In Win XP I can see the file.ico default icon but in Vista i can't see the icon. I've search on the net, but nothing
this is how it looks Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.ico] "Content Type"="image/x-icon" @="icofile" "PerceivedType"="image" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.icoPersistentHandler] @="{098f2470-bae0-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}" .......
I accidentally deleted the Mail icon from the Start Menu (Vista Ultimate x32) and a ballon came up with the steps to restore this which instantly disappeared. I run Office 2007 with Outlook as the default mail client. I did manage to create the shortcut for Outlook 2007 and drop it on the Start Menu and it works. However, on right click it does not give the three options (E-Mail Accounts; Data Files; Show Profiles) that was part of the standard options. I am able to access these options from the Control Panel (Mail) but would prefer to restore the Start Menu. I did re-install Office suite but it did not change. Is there a way to restore this back?
Last week I upgraded a HPxw4400X workstation from WinXP Pro w/SP3 to Vista Business. I did a full backup and also used FAST (files and settings transfer wizard). However, I soon found out that the DVD drive was "broke". HP told me it was because of the upgrade. They said to do a fresh install. Did another backup, fresh install, then a restore. Had lots of problems with BSOD, but a selective restore got it working again. But he can't see MS Office, nor navigate to it. I can see it when logged in as an admin. I thought of copying files and folders between profiles (he has 3 of 'em - , ., and ..000). The former is the oldest so I thought I could copy the App Data and User Data over it'd work (in both Documents and Settings, and Users), but it didn't work. I've been here working on various issues for 28 hours, so I'm not thinking as clearly as I'd like.
Running Vista Home Premium, when I select my pictures as the screen saver it ignores the settings for the screen to go blank and then eventually sleep mode. Why when I use my pictures for the screen saver does it ignore the comptuers settings and continue to scroll pictures. I have noticed this on more than one vista os machine.
I am not sure what has happened but the following message appears when turning on my comp: Quote: Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1) Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer 2) Choose your language settings and then click Next 3) Click 'Repair your Computer'.
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: windowssystem32windload.exe. Status: 0xc000000e Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt. I have the disk but how do i boot from it? I am very worried i've broken my comp for good.
Not sure why but when I try to open system restore I get this message: "System Protection Settings has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I cannot make or restore my computer. If I go into system protection I get this error: C:WindowsSystem32SYSDM.CPL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
"I am running Vista 32bit. My PC has two hard disks and I backup to the second one driveD.I have had a problem that resulted in reloading Vista. When I now try to restore the backup it says "files made on a different computer - there are no backups on this computer".
I have a problem with my computer, it is not downloading. I was trying to restore the computer to the last good condition and it only shows yesterday's date. No matter what type of document I try to download even though it shows that the file is downloading and I hear the chime when it is complete I don't know where it goes, I try to download the Regcure and samething happens, I don't know where the file has gone and the disk is filling up really quick I had a 1.7g available yesterday now I only have 244mg.
Some how only one of my users whole computer was reset. the other three were untouched. Now my question is how do i restore his computer to a last date. I saw once one of my freinds went to this place in control panel, and he set the date he wanted and he got it back.
alright so i rebooted my computer a lil while ago, and offcourse it lost a few things i liked about it, any help on how to restore them? first, when i highlight over a minimized windows, i want to view a small miniture window that lets me see the minimized window in my toolbar down below. second, the "switch between windows" button in my taskbar used to pop out all the windows that are up and i would click on a window and it would maximize it, but now, it just shows a few icons, how can i restore it so looks like it did before DONT TELL ME SYSTEM RESTORE, im tired of hearing it lol, everywhere i ask, they tell me "system restore" i dumped my computer, i dont have any saved system restore saves since when did the definition of "reboot" change...restart and reboot are not the same thing, i dont know why people are so hung up on it
I blew out the keyboard, (thought something might have gotten down there and was the cause of this) but still no change. I tried to restart my Vista Ultimate x64, but because it was keying that letter it just kept trying to search. So I had to hit the power button. This is where it gets weird. Upon restart, it goes to some sort of recovery wizard. No log-in screen, just this wizard. If I cancelled it, my system would reboot. So, after 6 different cancels / restarts, I tried it. It did a recovery that set up two partitions on my HD, but ERASED EVERYTHING. Anything that was not installed originally on the computer was erased. There are no system restore points (Deleted as well) Don't worry, I back-up fairly often. But I'd like to know what the hell happen.
Why can't I use system restore to restore back to certain restore points? I was only successful twice with it. When my laptap was new and when I used it after re-formatting my hard drive. On all occassions after those two instances I can never restore back to any restore point. It always says that "unspecified error" line. If Microsoft doesn't know what happend, how could I. Why did they bother putting system restore if it doesn't work all the time anyway. It gives you a false sense of security.
I have made a mistake and I am struggling to get out of this mess, I hope Shawn or someone who experienced this problem can help me out.
I was doing the Factory state recovery using Alt+F10 while booting in my Acer Aspire laptop, everything was fine until the "Acer Launch" window appeared. The last process Install eRecovery solution is not completing. The AL window just sitting in the middle of the screen and couldn't be moved. I tried to disable it from startup, msconfig window vanishes behind the Acer Launch window.
I think the cause of this problem is I forgot to create the 2nd(D: data) partition prior to starting the Recovery process.
My original set up was like this:
EISA hidden partition
C: system partition
D:data partition
I have deleted the D: partition and extended the C partition
I have created Recovery disc but I don't have Vista installation DVD as my machine is OEM version of Vista on it. I do have an Anytime upgrade DVD which came with the laptop when I bought.
My laptop is Dell inspiron 1420, home premium 32 bit. It's about 5 months old. It came with :-
1.) OS reinstallment DVD 2.) Dell Drivers and Utilities disk 3.) Microsoft Works 8.5 disk 4.) Trend Micro Internet Security ( but I have changed to McAfee since)
It's only 5 months ago that I learned how to use computer by reading and asking questions. So please be step-by-step in showing me how to.
when i type a document in microsoft and it pops up type your key numbers in i typed them in from under my laptop they dont match i contacted hp but they never get back to me what should i do i think the wrong sticker was put on in the factory overis seas
We've bought an HP 2710p tablet and built up the pre-installed Vista Business OS to work on our network. putting domain, installing bespoke software, taking the pre-installed crap off, etc. A user had it and was working fine for a few weeks and his story was that it was running low on battery, so he plugged it in, then went away for a bit. He comes back and finds the thing re-installing itself to factory settings!
I found that hard to believe, but upon taking re-possession of it, that's exactly what's it done - seemingly no questions asked! A crash is one thing, but a complete automatic factory recover! Have to say we're not best pleased. Why would it do that and how do i stop if from doing anything on its own terms again?
