Would someone know of any utility or method to restore a SATA hard drive's factory full capacity size? During partitioning my drive, it went from 595GB (640GB Drive) to only 32GB. Since it is a 64-Bit system, I can't find a utility to restore the drive's full capacity.

week later the slave drive disappeared. The BIOS recognizes the drive, but
Vista doesn't. I've seen enough threads on here w/ no resolution. System
restore is not an answer.
I run Vista Home Premium on a self build computer with an Asus P5B Delux motherboard. It has an e SATA socket and I recently bought a Caddy for an External Drive to use as a back up with Windows Live OneCare. The drive is a 320G Seagate SATA2 ST3320620AS identical to the internal drive in my computer and the Caddy has eSATA and USB2 sockets. Everthing works fine if I connect via USB2 but the external drive is not recognised when I connect with eSATA. It may not make a lot of difference in practice but I would still like to be able to use eSATA. Does anyone know why the e Sata drive isn't recognised? Is this a Vista problem or perhaps there is a setting that needs adjusting?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIssue: Its seen that computer having a samsung hard drive of 320 GB and 500 GB will give black screen with a cursor at the top left corner and it wont boot.
The reason behind this is these hard drives contains a scanner inside them which periodically scans the hard drive to check for error and tries to recover them.
Resolution: Enter the Boot device menu(By pressing the F12 or F9 key on the manufacturer logo).
Change the Boot Device
Select HARD DRIVE as the 1st boot priority and press enter. The system may or may not boot...
I am having trouble getting Vista to recognize the IDE hard drive I am trying to add. I have Vista Home Basic running off of my SATA HD and want to add IDE as extra storage. I have it all hooked up, IDE hard drive is set to master on same controller as my DVD drive, but windows isn't recognizing the HD properly, it recognizes it as a new drive, but it is coming up as a floppy drive, anyone have any idea how to remedy this? Will be watching thread for next 20 mins or so, will keep up on replies and supply additional info if needed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do a clean install on a newly built system but Vista can not see my SATA hard drive. I have a Seagate 7200 barracuda 320 GB SATA HD and a Giga-byte P35 Mobo. Not knowing if it was a Vista issue or a hardware issue, I put in a XP installation disk and XP could recognize the drive. I stopped the install and tried loading some drivers off of the disk from Gigabyte. Vista still can not see the hard drive, but now when I throw the XP install disk back in, it can not see the hard drive either.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying bring-up a new SATA Hard Drive through PCIe to SATA AHCI Host Card. We find that Vista recognized the AHCI Controller and it shows up in the Device Manager. It successfully allocates the memory and IRQ, and says that the Device is working properly. But the HDD is not recognized. When we look at the PCIe analyser, we see that the OS is continuously polling the AHCI Interrupt Status Register (Addr: 0x08). This register is reading 0x0 all the time.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install an additional (SATA) hard drive - it appears I need a cable that can connect to the 8 pin power connection on the hard drive and then to the EIDE 15 pin connector on the cable coming from the hard drive in the computer. I can't find a cable that can do this. Do I need to combine two cables (15 to 4 pin, then 4 to 8?)

View 9 Replies View Relatedmy D drive is in red and apparently full. i am not getting the warning sign yet but was curious if I can somehow just delete this drive. yes i know that it is a recovery drive. we do have a recovery disk handy. when i click on it it says "warning this area of your hard drive comntains files used for your PC Recovery. Do not delete or alter....." so if I were to delete it will is mess my computer up? do i really need to back it up to a cd since i already have a recovery disk? is there a way to just keep the drive but not have the full red bar there?
View 4 Replies View RelatedDuring the past few weeks I have faced the problem of lost some GBs from my Hard Disk! My Hard Disk's Capacity is 500 Gbs! However, when I add together Program Files, Documents and Settings and any other leftovers they don't reach even the amount of 350 Gbs! So, I reckon that I have hidden (lost) some Gbs in my Hard Disk! In the past I used a software that used to analyze my Hard Disk Data i.e. Program Files = 100 Gbs, My Documents = 120 Gbs etc... Does anybody knows any software to do this and to recover the lost data (capacity) if possible!
View 9 Replies View Relatedthere's about 3 backups on that partition on my C: drive it has 9GB free this varies some days sometimes it goes up and down though I don't understand why my system restore was put from 15GB to 5GB and this is fine for me I defragment and disk clean alot I have 15GB of music and pictures when I first got the laptop there was about 9GB already filled so where has the rest of the space gone? all my friends laptops have 120GB and they have about 100GB left what's happend to mine and how can I get it back?

I intend to upgrade the internal drive from 80 to 500 GB but as the machine came with an early version of Vista home premium pre-installed I do not have a Vista cd to reinstall the os only a recovery dvd. I have a free version of Macrium reflect that I use to make an image of the comlete C: drive. Is it possible to swap hard drives and copy this image to the new hard drive without any prior formatting or os loaded on it.

I followed all the steps to get to the advance boot option, selected Repair Your Computer, It went directly to log me on, there was no click Dell Factory Image Restore, no Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory conditions. It took me to the standard log on window. I tried this 3 times with no luck for a reformat to factory condition.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI backup up data to a remote Western Digital drive using the Vista Backup verything seems fine. I selected to backup all files on the "Back Up Files" menu except TV Shows, Compressed Files and Additional Files. My question is, If this hard drive dies and no longer lets me access it (which is what happened to my last XP computer) can I save registry and all other files that will let me restore to another hard drive with the least amount of hassle? Also is there anyway I can save profiles and passwords and the like. Ideally, I'd like to backup my entire hard drive and be able reinstall it to a new hard drive if this one dies. When my XP hard drive died I had my documents saved but had a real problem with this other information.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis is a tough one for me to explain but I will try very hard. I guess this started around late summer 09. I turned on my computer and it would run chkdsk over and over again. I let it go over night once and it was still scanning the hard drive over and over. Around Christmas time I reinstalled vista and still it would run chkdsk on every boot. Only this time, it ran once and then vista loaded fine. It would stop responding often and run slow but it was better. I manually turned off chkdsk but it made the computer run worse over time.
It would just not do anything so i would have to hold on the power button and turn it back on. The hard drive light will just stay on and the drive will sound a little different than usual. No clicking or metal on metal noise, just a different type of busy noise until you open something. Also you could use the disk clean up but not the defrag. It will say you should defrag volume so i would click defrag now. It would just show you the spinning blue circle and say analyzing but then say you should degrag volume again. So it won't defrag either. System restore also does not work.........
I know you guys get this question alot, but after searching through the forum posts and trying the various methods, still this obstacle remains. Ok, I just bought a Gateway E-155 tablet online and it came with Vista Ultimate 32 & 64bit versions. The person who I purchased it from said it was already installed and ready to go. When I received the laptop today, I turned it on and it said no OS installed.
I went through the procedures and arrived at the 'where do you want to install Windows' part of installation which, of course, had no HD to choose from. After researching the topic it seems that this is a common problem. I decided to go to Gateway.com and downloaded all the drivers and unzipped them and put them onto a USB drive and still it said 'no drivers found'. Then I found a post that suggested going to Intel and obtaining the SATA/RAID driver. After putting that onto the USB, tried it again and it finally found a file (ICH7M/MDH SATA AHCI Controller) but after it attempted to use it, said that still no driver was found.
One person suggested going into the BIOS and turning the 'RAID' on, but I saw nothing of it on the SATA settings and so I adjusted those settings, each one followed by reattempting to find the drivers. nothing.
I am Using Vista Ultimate 64. I would like to tranfer my entire drive incuding all files and the Operating system From my current IDE HDD to a new SATA Drive of the sames size (500 Gig) I need the IDE Drive for an older computer ( The 40 Gig IBM Deathstar still functions great, but all programs seem more bloated these Days)
Anyway I went to Administrative Tools and Formated the New Drive NFTS with no Drive Letter. But I cannot get it recognized as a transfer device when I go to system backup. Can I use 'C' on the second and soon to be only drive? If I have to use E or F for now can I change it back later. would that affect the file system? I intend to Low level Format the IDE and try cloning the old machine's XP Drive (32 bit) to it in the second place.
Question: I've never never installed SATA drives, I know that when I connect them up and try to run Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, it will ask me if I need to install SATA drivers (which I have from the Intel CD) but.... what then happens?
1. I only have one DVD drive so do I then take out the windows CD and insert the Intel driver CD or do I put the drivers on a USB stick or something?
2. How do I format the disks and is it straight forward to set up the RAID array?
ok im tryimg to restore my dell inspiron 1525 laptop to factory settings.(also i run vista home premium 32bit). I have tried the f8 advancted options and people say i should see a command to restore to factory settings but it dosent show up for me. can anyone help me out
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had a HP PC running windows vista home basic, it crashed and was not able to boot in vista. Startup repair or safe mode did not work, so inorder to save data I installed vista business on top of it. The data is recovered and now when I try to boot to the factory restore it does not work, noticed in msconfig under boot.ini tab there is no boot record to the factory restore partition. Is there a way I can add in the record so that If I press F11 my PC will boot into the factory restore partition?

My computer has numerous problems: it won’t load certain websites, windows updates won’t work, I can’t load or re-download windows defender, I can’t download software from Microsoft.com…..and so on and so on. I have searched and searched the internet and tried many solutions from many different forums with none of them working. My last resort is to restore the system to factory settings however that too presents a problem. The files in my HP_Recovery drive have been deleted and the recovery disks that I created were lost when I moved. I know it’s a long shot, but is there any way I can restore my system to factory settings without the HP_Recovery partition or recovery disks?

The restore discs that Gateway sent me no longer work (I've had to factory reset previously) and the OS disc that Gateway sent me isn't reading in my T-6835 laptop. Since I reset my hard drive previously, I don't have Gateway Recovery Manager. I do have a recovery partition though, but I can't access it for some reason or another. I have tried tapping alt + f10, f10, and r at the beginning but to no avail.
View 5 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago my computer died from a windows update it automatically did, i managed to get back onto the computer by booting my OS disk to save my files and now i need to completly restore my computer back to factory settings. I Don't want to restore it back to a certain point, or repair my system as i log on, which is all i seem to be able to find in other posts, i just want to completly restore it back to day 1. F11 doesnt work when i turn my computer on (yes im doing it right and ive tried it LOTS of times), F8 brings up a screeen i dont want, booting from teh OS disk just boots the pc normally and alt F10 doesnt seem to be bringing the page that i need up, just an editing page.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was recently given a Medion desktop pc (its a second hand one), and i want to recover it back to factory settings. I got nothing with the pc, no disks or anything.It has one HDD which is partitioned into two drives, one of which is called "recover" and contains what i assume to be files that will reset the pc to factory settings and install all of the orginal content again. This drive has no .exe file in it, or any other file extention that i can do anything with. The appears to be no program that i can find that will recover the pc.

Everytime i turn my computer on i get the blue screen of death i can't restore to factory defaults by CTRL+F11 or from CD... Last known good configuration doesn't work neither.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently re-arrange my 4 500GB SATA drives to provide better cooling. The system rebooted fine but every two or three days on booting Vista would kick me back to the BIOS starting screen, or, completely freeze, requiring a reboot. The system then wouldn't boot saying it couldn't find an operating system. Turning the computor off, and a restart would fix the problem until the next time. I resolved this by rearranging my hard drives so that Vistas C drive was the Motherboards logical boot drive. An obvious solution. My question is two fold. Why would BIOS find the Boot Drive sometimes and not others (The disks are not faulty), I perhaps don't fully understand how SATA operates. I have had no further problems to date.
