I had a HP PC running windows vista home basic, it crashed and was not able to boot in vista. Startup repair or safe mode did not work, so inorder to save data I installed vista business on top of it. The data is recovered and now when I try to boot to the factory restore it does not work, noticed in msconfig under boot.ini tab there is no boot record to the factory restore partition. Is there a way I can add in the record so that If I press F11 my PC will boot into the factory restore partition?View 8 Replies View Related

I am using a HP Pavilion dv6000 running Windows Vista Home Premium. My computer has numerous problems: it wonít load certain websites, windows updates wonít work, I canít load or re-download windows defender, I canít download software from Microsoft.comÖ..and so on and so on. I have searched and searched the internet and tried many solutions from many different forums with none of them working. My last resort is to restore the system to factory settings however that too presents a problem. The files in my HP_Recovery drive have been deleted and the recovery disks that I created were lost when I moved. I know itís a long shot, but is there any way I can restore my system to factory settings without the HP_Recovery partition or recovery disks?View 6 Replies View Related
I need to do a complete factory reset on my Gateway. The restore discs that Gateway sent me no longer work (I've had to factory reset previously) and the OS disc that Gateway sent me isn't reading in my T-6835 laptop. Since I reset my hard drive previously, I don't have Gateway Recovery Manager. I do have a recovery partition though, but I can't access it for some reason or another. I have tried tapping alt + f10, f10, and r at the beginning but to no avail.View 5 Replies View Related
A few weeks ago my computer died from a windows update it automatically did, i managed to get back onto the computer by booting my OS disk to save my files and now i need to completly restore my computer back to factory settings. I Don't want to restore it back to a certain point, or repair my system as i log on, which is all i seem to be able to find in other posts, i just want to completly restore it back to day 1. F11 doesnt work when i turn my computer on (yes im doing it right and ive tried it LOTS of times), F8 brings up a screeen i dont want, booting from teh OS disk just boots the pc normally and alt F10 doesnt seem to be bringing the page that i need up, just an editing page.View 5 Replies View Related
I was recently given a Medion desktop pc (its a second hand one), and i want to recover it back to factory settings. I got nothing with the pc, no disks or anything. It has one HDD which is partitioned into two drives, one of which is called "recover" and contains what i assume to be files that will reset the pc to factory settings and install all of the orginal content again. This drive has no .exe file in it, or any other file extention that i can do anything with. The appears to be no program that i can find that will recover the pc.
how i restore it factory settings? Confused_ms p.s. The DVD-rom is not working at the min, so even if i did have a disk i wouldnt be able to use it. p.p.s. The pc has 2.8ghz processer (pentium D), 250gb HDD, 1GB RAM, Vista home prem OS Btw, the pc also has no internet connection, however i do have another computor so i can download things and transfer them over. (i cant set up my internet connection because they drivers i need to run the wireless adapter are on a CD and i currently cant run Cd's) edit: I think i might be making progress (assumin im heading on the right track?), when i press F10 during start-up i get the following come up on screen: EDIT BOOT OPTIONS Edit Windows boot options for: Microsoft windows Vista Path: windowssystem32winload.exe Partition: 1 Hard Disk: cb352c78 [ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN ] Then is says ENTER=submit ESC=Cancel Now am i right in thinking that the partition needs to be changed to 2? if so how to i do it, becasue it wont simply let me change it as the only thing i have acess to is the bit in (thats the only bit i can change or type in).
Western Digital SATA Hard Drive - 640GB
Vista Home Premium - 64Bit
Would someone know of any utility or method to restore a SATA hard drive's factory full capacity size? During partitioning my drive, it went from 595GB (640GB Drive) to only 32GB. Since it is a 64-Bit system, I can't find a utility to restore the drive's full capacity.
I am having problems typing in the user name of my other computer in our home network. I type it in and it just defaults back to something else that's in there. like this... I will type in a word ..like..eclipse..for the user name and then type in the password in the box underneath...then it comes up as ..whatever/eclipse ...and will not let me connect. And I cannot get rid of the username that's in there.View 5 Replies View Related

I have an 8800GT and a 7600 GT Geforce card. The 8800 is for my primary monitor, a Nec, and also runs a small Dell. The 7600 is for two Dells. But when I go to Preferences in CS3 and check "GPU Settings" it says it detects the 7600 card, not the 8800. So then I looked at Vista color management and there it shows the monitor connected to the 7600 card as my default monitor. How can I change the default monitor to make it the Nec, which is already the primary? And will that cause Photoshop to then detect the 8800 card instead of the 7600?View 7 Replies View Related

Why can't I use system restore to restore back to certain restore points? I was only successful twice with it. When my laptap was new and when I used it after re-formatting my hard drive. On all occassions after those two instances I can never restore back to any restore point. It always says that "unspecified error" line. If Microsoft doesn't know what happend, how could I. Why did they bother putting system restore if it doesn't work all the time anyway. It gives you a false sense of security.View 5 Replies View Related
I have made a mistake and I am struggling to get out of this mess, I hope Shawn or someone who experienced this problem can help me out.
I was doing the Factory state recovery using Alt+F10 while booting in my Acer Aspire laptop, everything was fine until the "Acer Launch" window appeared. The last process Install eRecovery solution is not completing. The AL window just sitting in the middle of the screen and couldn't be moved. I tried to disable it from startup, msconfig window vanishes behind the Acer Launch window.
I think the cause of this problem is I forgot to create the 2nd(D: data) partition prior to starting the Recovery process.
My original set up was like this:
EISA hidden partition
C: system partition
I have deleted the D: partition and extended the C partition
I have created Recovery disc but I don't have Vista installation DVD as my machine is OEM version of Vista on it. I do have an Anytime upgrade DVD which came with the laptop when I bought.
My laptop is Dell inspiron 1420, home premium 32 bit. It's about 5 months old. It came with :-
1.) OS reinstallment DVD
2.) Dell Drivers and Utilities disk
3.) Microsoft Works 8.5 disk
4.) Trend Micro Internet Security ( but I have changed to McAfee since)
It's only 5 months ago that I learned how to use computer by reading and asking questions. So please be step-by-step in showing me how to.

We've bought an HP 2710p tablet and built up the pre-installed Vista Business OS to work on our network. putting domain, installing bespoke software, taking the pre-installed crap off, etc. A user had it and was working fine for a few weeks and his story was that it was running low on battery, so he plugged it in, then went away for a bit. He comes back and finds the thing re-installing itself to factory settings!
I found that hard to believe, but upon taking re-possession of it, that's exactly what's it done - seemingly no questions asked! A crash is one thing, but a complete automatic factory recover! Have to say we're not best pleased. Why would it do that and how do i stop if from doing anything on its own terms again?
my D drive is in red and apparently full. i am not getting the warning sign yet but was curious if I can somehow just delete this drive. yes i know that it is a recovery drive. we do have a recovery disk handy. when i click on it it says "warning this area of your hard drive comntains files used for your PC Recovery. Do not delete or alter....." so if I were to delete it will is mess my computer up? do i really need to back it up to a cd since i already have a recovery disk? is there a way to just keep the drive but not have the full red bar there?View 4 Replies View Related
I purchased a HP Pavillion DV2222tx laptop computer that came with Windows Vista Home Premium installed on it. I then purchased Vista Business and installed without making a backup/recovery disk. I now want to put it back to it's factory condition and get Vista Home Premium back on it but can not seem to find how to do it. There is still 4.46GB of HP_RECOVERY on D:/ that you can not see what is on it. How get it back to factory. I have tried pressing F11 repeatedly on startup - that did nothing, tried repeatedly pressing F8 as well - couldn't work that one out and just do not know what to do now. When I installed Business it has taken away the Recovery Manager and I don't know what to do.View 4 Replies View Related

Anyway, can the recovery created disc you make at first use of your pc, restore your computer back to the factory defult after you do a complete clean install of another OS? Say, I go from the Vista premium 64bit that was installed in the laptops stock form, to Xp 64bit from a offical OS disc, back to the Vista 64bit factory install.... lol follow that? It sounds way better inside my head then it sounds read out loud. Maybe thats where it should of stayed...?
Also, the Vista key that is used on my laptop from the factory installed OS, can it be used If I were to try and use the same OS to do a clean install, but from an offical cd? Basicly, would my key that I am currently using, work if I use it on a OS disc install? I just want to make sure I can get this thing back to "fresh out the box" stands if need be. For the windows 7 update, or to return shortly if I can not get issues resolved on my own.
I have used my HP m7763w with Vista Home Premium for more than 2 years now, and finally got to the point of having to use my rescue CDs to reformat the HD and reset to factory setting. Unfortunately, I get frequent error messages now, and missing file notices, and Windows Update refuses to work. I understand that the old factory settings are way outdated by now, but what am I supposed to do to get it all working right, if Windows Update fails?View 6 Replies View Related

Now at start up I get my user name (there was always only one user acct.) and when I type my password it does not accept my password. It may be possible that when I purchased the computer three years ago I used a different password and then changed it and have just orgatten that I did that but I doubt it. I was having some issues with my pc and it was long overdue for a reinstall anways, so I set it back to factory settings. Here is a list of my issues so far since..
1. Won't recognized my 9600gs - Keeps saying their is just an avg card their.
2. Downloads are corrupting. Video drivers, Firefox, Googlechrome, etc.. all get a corruption error when trying to install.
3. Some of my windows updates are getting errors to.
A. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 Download size: 17.1 MB - 55.6 MB
B. Update for Windows Vista (KB950124) Download size: 15.8 MB
C. Internet Explorer 8 for Windows Vista Download size: 23.5 MB
Only changes I have made is upgrading to a 9600gs with the hardware specs, otherwise you can find my pc specs at this link. Newegg.com - HP Pavilion M9040N(GN553AA) Core 2 Quad Q6600(2.40GHz) 3GB DDR2 640GB NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Windows Vista Home Premium

I recently had a problem with my Dell Inspiron 1525 (System Event Notification Service error) and I had to use the function to return the system to its factory settings. I believe this involves using an OS image that's installed on a separate partition on the laptops hard drive. I followed the steps in the manual which involves using the F8 setup screen and selecting "repair your computer" and "system recovery options" and selecting restore factory settings or something to that effect. I selected this and after about 10 minutes a message appeared stating that the return to factory settings was successful. Per the instructions, I hit enter but after I did the computer went into a continuous loop of showing the bios screen and what sounded like trying to boot up and then back to the bios screen. It would continue doing this unless I hit the power button or pressed the F2 key or the F12 key. I hit F2 and noticed that the boot sequence had been changed to diskette drive as first and hard drive as second....
I guess I have the other option of reinstalling the operating system from the OS disk Dell provided but I'm wondering if that is the same as the restore to factory settings option? For example, are all the necessary drivers and other applications that were on the machine when it left the factory copied during installation? The manual says the OS image file on the hard drive has all the drivers and applications so I'd really like to go that route if I can but I do need some advice on how to fix this problem with the Bios looping.

I own a Gateway NV52 that I purchased almost a year ago. Last month, I installed Windows 7 64-bit on it since I missed having Best Buy do the free upgrade. After the install, I re-downloaded and re-installed my old programs and somewhere during the process, the laptop keep freezing - just a black screen. It tended to happen when I plugged in my wireless mouse.
After trying to fix the issue for Win7, I gave up and re-installed Vista 64 from the Gateway recovery disks. After this fresh install, my USB mouse still seemed to be the issue, so I stopped using it. It seems to not be the problem, however, since it freezes randomly while in the middle of working in programs or idle and nowhere near transitioning to screen saver.
I've run antivirus and antispyware software and come up empty. I'm unsure what to do next, since Gateway tech support seems to be stumped as well. Are there any options I should check before breaking down and shipping this out?
I would like the option to back out of the enterprise edition and revert to my own licence if necessary. When I got this PC it didn't come with any system discs, only a factory image on a partition. I have since created recovery disks for it. Are the recovery discs what I need to restore to the original configuration? If not, what is the correct strategy to take?View 6 Replies View Related

I have a recent problem installing Windows updates on Vista Ultimate as the update process stays on 'creating restore point' forever. I've let it run as long as 7 hours in this state, with no change. It looks like the system is unable to make a restore point sucessfully. I know it has worked in the past, as I'm fairly up-to-date on Windows updates. Reading some other threads, I've tried using Disk Clean-up to remove all by the most recent restore points, and then try to disable/re-enable system restore - this part without success. When I check the system properties for System Restore, the System Restore button is greyed out. I've attached a screenshot of the screen for reference. I've checked the group policies to verify the System Restore is not disabled there.View 9 Replies View Related
