I jsut finished applying Vista Business SP1 to my Vista PC and didn;t see any change as to why the default printer will never stay ad the default when the PC is restarted or shut off. Does anyone ahve any ideas as to why this is happening because the issu is getting old fast.
View 5 RepliesI'm running Windows Vista, but I have a PSC all in one that was originally programmed for Windows XP. I have gone to the PSC manufacturer and obtained an updated driver for the PSC, and I can install it and use the printer, but when I shut the computer down and restart it the driver does not stay installed. I have to re-install the driver every time I start the computer. Is there a way to make this driver stay installed?

I restarted and after log in, after 1minute my vista freezes...all i can use is MSN, this is only program what is working, other programs are freezed. Also what i noticed that when my pc freezes, some ´´world shaped´´ icon comes to my start bar, green coloured. Im running 64bit vista. Ive run vista for more than 8months without any problem:
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought sims 2 to play on my Toshiba laptop, which runs with Vista, and it worked fine for aaaages, but then one day when i took my sim lady downtown, it froze while loading the downtown screen, and when i restarted and re-opened that family, it wouldnt work and was constantly frozen. since then it crashed everytime i tried starting sims or saving a family id made. it doesnt even stay on long enough to move a family into a house. I dont get an error message, it just stops loading or freezes. When i ctrl alt and del it says the programme is not responding. I bought sims seasons, and im still having the same problem. i have ran numerous virus checks and my laptop is fine. ive also uninstalled and reinstalled many times. Ive also tried changing game compatability without success. Ive gone as far as going and buying a new sims 2!

I am having problems typing in the user name of my other computer in our home network. I type it in and it just defaults back to something else that's in there. like this... I will type in a word ..like..eclipse..for the user name and then type in the password in the box underneath...then it comes up as ..whatever/eclipse ...and will not let me connect. And I cannot get rid of the username that's in there.

I do not know PowerPoint, except to run this application, which was developed by others. It reads files to build a slide show. There are a couple of default options that need changing with each execution. I’ve figured out how to change these settings, but I’d really like to just change the defaults.
1. Enable macros
2. Font size (filename that is displayed for winning slides). Please give complete “click here; click there” instructions.
Everytime i turn my computer on i get the blue screen of death i can't restore to factory defaults by CTRL+F11 or from CD... Last known good configuration doesn't work neither.

I cleared out my outbox, restarted windows mail, no luck. Turned Mcafee off for emails,restarted windows mail no luck.

I have an 8800GT and a 7600 GT Geforce card. The 8800 is for my primary monitor, a Nec, and also runs a small Dell. The 7600 is for two Dells. But when I go to Preferences in CS3 and check "GPU Settings" it says it detects the 7600 card, not the 8800. So then I looked at Vista color management and there it shows the monitor connected to the 7600 card as my default monitor. How can I change the default monitor to make it the Nec, which is already the primary? And will that cause Photoshop to then detect the 8800 card instead of the 7600?
View 7 Replies View RelatedAt the moment I have no Office because I was advised when Word 2003 would crash on start and have to be restarted in safe mode to uninstall and reinstall it. Now I can't get it loaded at all. My very expensice IT guy spent 2 hours and gave up the HP people (this is a brand new laptop) said Vista isn't compatible with Office Pro 2000 which we upgraded from...I have 8 computers running 2003...The other issue is that when I click on a message in hotmail it crashes. No message, just a freeze. What a hassle - I have no Outlook because of problem 1 and no hotmail because of problem 2. Wish I'd been warned... I guess I really was - all those HP machines with extra cost to be 'downgraded' to XP.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought the Vista Home Premium Upgrade and when I went to install it, I chose to do a fresh install. When my PC restarted the screen was blank for a really long time, then the mouse arrow popped up and the screen was still blank. I checked the Hard Drive light and it wasn't blinking. I put my ear to my PC to see if I could hear it working and it was just running normally. I turned my PC off and I can't install Vista now. It says to start the installation from XP with the key that I'm using.
The problem is that XP came with my PC in a partition of the hard drive. I can't access the partition anymore. I hate the fact that I didn't recieve a disk with the operating system that my PC came with, and I will never buy another PC with the restoration and installation files in a partition. I can't even format my hard drive in BIOS because of the way it's set up. s there anything I can do other than calling the company to get an XP start up disk which I was told will cost me $40-$80?
i got a computer, wich i baught new in the store's and it had windows vista already preinstalled. it was windows vista home edition 32bit. but after alot of stupid things of me becuz the pc was very slow, i decided to format the whole pc, and install windows xp on it, i got the xp cd , and i putted it in, and it just wont install windows xp on it, everytime, i get the blue screen and it restarted everytime the xp installation, so first you can format the partitions, then it requires a reboot, and then the xp installation starts again from scratch, so its unable to install xp, but thats not my question.
so i decided to download a windows vista ultimate edition, 32 bit, and i burned it on a dvd and i putted it in my computer, and the boot from the dvd was good. then it asks where do you want to install windows, well, the page was blank it could not find any drives, or well, i dont know. then it says you want to load a driver, ( driver?? drive?? ) i dont understand this so good. i was hoping you guys can help me out, and i just want my normal pc back with a good vista, i cannot go to a pc store, becuz that takes too much time i wanna try it like this first
I just installed a fresh installation of Enterprisex64 a couple days ago. As I've been building up the system I mapped a drive to another computer on my network and continued to setup the new PC. Last night after installing a couple different DVD Burning programs (Roxio10 & Nero 8) I rebooted a couple times and noticed that my Security Center was turned off. I went into the services, turned it to Automatic and restarted the service.
Then I continued my work on building my system and realized I couldn't connect to my mapped drive, only to realize I could no longer see other computers on my network via Network Neighborhood or by \computername. My other computers on the network can see each other, just not this new box...........
Installed XP Pro and Vista on separate partitions, hoping to update through Vista to Win 7. Changed strategy and deleted Vista, repartitioned HD. Now I still get a window at startup that defaults to Vista but gives me options to start XP. Would like to get rid of that Vista default so I don't have to hawk each reboot.

Vista is able to locate the printer on the network but when I select it for installation, for some time, Vista tries to connect and then pops up this message: "Failed Connecting to Printer - Access Denied" And then another window pops up with this message: "Spooler Subsystem Application stopped woring and has been closed." In fact the spooler service always stops, so I have to restart it on the services windows, within Administrative Tools of the Control Panel. The machine is new and has been installed yesterday. Everything else works fine. The printer I am trying to install is on a Windows XP Professional machine within the same network (naturally).

What I am finding is that when I turn on the computer the Firewall is off. I then reset it to on but again it is off on start up. This did not happen when Norton was installed.

Our Exchange version is 2003 and all of our workstations run on Windows XP. I watched an MS video that stated that MS Mainstream support for XP will end 4/2009, and so the question has come up with our IT management of when and if we should upgrade all of our workstations to Vista. I know this is an internal decision, but would like anyone in the forum's input on their experience of doing this, and what can we expect if we don't upgrade and stay on XP.

I also have a new HP Laptop with Vista premium that has also had the same printer attached to it at times so the drivers are installed on HP laptop. I recently installed a router so I can use laptop wirelessly. That works fine. However, I am unable to print to the host printer wirelessly. I get message saying printer cannot communicate with computer. I tried everything I found on Google searches. I have enabled printer sharing on both. Do I have to make the Workgroup names the same and if so do I change the Dell with XP or the HP with Vista? I changed the Dell once to no avail so I changed back. Do computer names have to be same? I am a novice at networking.

There are just a few spurious characters printed at the top of this unwanted page. The following "proper" pages are OK. I have, so it seems, the lastest driver available.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI cannot set the default printer in Vista Business with SP1. I am connected to a domain trying to set a network printer hosted from a server as the default printer. I have seen a dozen or more questions similiar to this in this group as well as on other forums and found no answer. I see a MS-MVP come on and tell people to remove local printers such as the XPS and adobe printers. This is a ridiculous solution. Sure it may allow you to connect to a network printer but you have removed printers that you are going to need to use again. Unacceptable.
So far the only other solution that does not include deleting all the local printers off of the machine is to make sure you have write permissions to the default printer registry key. I have checked this and I do have write permissions(Full Control). SO WHAT NEXT? IS MICROSOFT EVER GOING TO COME OUT WITH ANOTHER FIX FOR THIS?
I can't seem to keep my internet to stay connecting. Every since I got this Belkin, my internet has it day. Some day it'll stay connecting and other day, I have to keep reboot the router or the computer. I was wondering if there is more then one reading on the IP Address or what.

Can anyone help me figure out why my keyboard keeps waking up my computer automatically. Its a Dell SK-8135. I just want to be able to send my computer to sleep and wake it with the keyboard under normal situations.
I run Vista HP/SP2. The other day after various installs, updates and maintenance tasks I ran with no problems and ended the day by putting my laptop into hibernate mode. The next day when I powered on, my system would not come up...my system disk C: was corrupt. I finally got System Repair to run and it appeared to fix and recover my C: disk to the point that I can see my files still exist via Recovery command prompt. However when I
restart, my screen goes and stays blank (black) with my cursor usable but to no purpose. I tried System Repair again but it tells me it can find nothing to repair. I tried starting in safe mode and it loads two screens worth of windows files before going to a blank (black) screen with my cursor usable but to no purpose. The last windows file loaded is a crcdisk driver file.
I am totally new to second life and I installed it on my new laptop 15,4 screen (Asus Z53S) dual core T7700, 2GB memory, graffic card Nvidia G Force 8600M GS Vista Home OS, but I don't manage to stay operational (?) more than a few seconds. I have cabble connection (usually 13500 kps download and 480 upload rate). What happens is when I start the game I manage to move (walk7fly) for a few seconds and I imediatly loose all control over my avatar (keeps walking/flying etc).
