Here is the problem, yesterday i downloaded movie converter, and it asked me to restart. I restarted and after log in, after 1minute my vista freezes...all i can use is MSN, this is only program what is working, other programs are freezed. Also what i noticed that when my pc freezes, some ´´world shaped´´ icon comes to my start bar, green coloured. Im running 64bit vista. Ive run vista for more than 8months without any problem:
View 4 RepliesI have been having this complicating issue with my laptop. i have windows vista x64 bit home premium. i have determined that it is not my internet because games like counter strike source still lag very badly with my internet off (9 fps every minute). i have tried reducing the services and amount of processes running on my computer and it didn't help at all. do i just need to update vista? i recently have had this problem for a week or two and i cant figure it out.i have a Hp Pavilion Dv7, amd turion x2,ATI Radion HD 3200,4 GB of RAM.

- If I turn it off again, it locks my computer after the time set in screensaver. Even though it's turned off.
if anyone has seen my previous threads you might have seen me complaining about the speed of vista. now i have a powerful PC and i JUST reinstalled vista less than one month ago and AGAIN its loading so incredibly slow its painful and im about to cry. i have literally less than 20 programs installed on a 500 GB HDD and it boots up as slow as a win '98 20 mhz cpu computer. i swear, ive never been more confused in my life. i havent reinstalled or de-installed anything like at all, i upgraded to SP2 i tried to a system restore and of course, it failed. for the past week im literally finding myself going to eat dinner and then coming down to see that my startup programs are just finihsing after 30 minutes of initial boot. once they are all loaded the pc works like a charm and nothing goes wrong. if you say i have "too many startup programs" iwill laugh because i litteraly have 4 startup programs. yes ive tried no startup programs but it doesnt help WHATSOEVER. im just onwdering how windows can corrupt files like by itself. no its not a virus. i ve checked with over 4 diferent anti viruses.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Gateway DX4720-03 Vista-64bit PC. Recently, I noticed something strange. The Screensaver always reverts back to 1 minute after booting up. While booting up, I can quickly check the screensaver settings, and the wait time is what I set before rebooting. After the services start on the PC, the time resets to 1 minute. When I check this in Safe Mode, the wait time stays whatever I set it previously, and does not change. How would you go about determining the bad startup program or service that is resetting the wait time?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm currently experiencing an issue with a Visa Business laptop where it had suddenly been taking approximately 20 minutes to boot, after running various virus scans and checking through the boot logs I was unable to find a solution and as such decided to reinstall Windows to resolve my problem. However, I have found that even after completely reformatting the drive and reinstalling Windows Visa I am still experiencing this extremely long boot time. I have observed that the long boot time does not occur if I select to boot in to safe mode, and for a large majority of the time when the computer is booting the hard disk activity light isn't even flashing with Windows freezing on some attempts while booting.
To attempt to see if this was a hardware issue I downloaded a copy of Linux Mint onto a DVD and booted from it, as expected it booted extremely fast (for a disk) compared to Windows. Being unable to fix the problem myself I have decided to finally request help from people whom would be more knowledgable in this area than me :P To assist in finding the resolution of my problem I have included a copy of the bootlog (I have disabled the drivers that do not load and have noticed no difference in the overall boot time).
I bought sims 2 to play on my Toshiba laptop, which runs with Vista, and it worked fine for aaaages, but then one day when i took my sim lady downtown, it froze while loading the downtown screen, and when i restarted and re-opened that family, it wouldnt work and was constantly frozen. since then it crashed everytime i tried starting sims or saving a family id made. it doesnt even stay on long enough to move a family into a house. I dont get an error message, it just stops loading or freezes. When i ctrl alt and del it says the programme is not responding. I bought sims seasons, and im still having the same problem. i have ran numerous virus checks and my laptop is fine. ive also uninstalled and reinstalled many times. Ive also tried changing game compatability without success. Ive gone as far as going and buying a new sims 2!

I cleared out my outbox, restarted windows mail, no luck. Turned Mcafee off for emails,restarted windows mail no luck.
At the moment I have no Office because I was advised when Word 2003 would crash on start and have to be restarted in safe mode to uninstall and reinstall it. Now I can't get it loaded at all. My very expensice IT guy spent 2 hours and gave up the HP people (this is a brand new laptop) said Vista isn't compatible with Office Pro 2000 which we upgraded from...I have 8 computers running 2003...The other issue is that when I click on a message in hotmail it crashes. No message, just a freeze. What a hassle - I have no Outlook because of problem 1 and no hotmail because of problem 2. Wish I'd been warned... I guess I really was - all those HP machines with extra cost to be 'downgraded' to XP.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought the Vista Home Premium Upgrade and when I went to install it, I chose to do a fresh install. When my PC restarted the screen was blank for a really long time, then the mouse arrow popped up and the screen was still blank. I checked the Hard Drive light and it wasn't blinking. I put my ear to my PC to see if I could hear it working and it was just running normally. I turned my PC off and I can't install Vista now. It says to start the installation from XP with the key that I'm using.
The problem is that XP came with my PC in a partition of the hard drive. I can't access the partition anymore. I hate the fact that I didn't recieve a disk with the operating system that my PC came with, and I will never buy another PC with the restoration and installation files in a partition. I can't even format my hard drive in BIOS because of the way it's set up. s there anything I can do other than calling the company to get an XP start up disk which I was told will cost me $40-$80?
i got a computer, wich i baught new in the store's and it had windows vista already preinstalled. it was windows vista home edition 32bit. but after alot of stupid things of me becuz the pc was very slow, i decided to format the whole pc, and install windows xp on it, i got the xp cd , and i putted it in, and it just wont install windows xp on it, everytime, i get the blue screen and it restarted everytime the xp installation, so first you can format the partitions, then it requires a reboot, and then the xp installation starts again from scratch, so its unable to install xp, but thats not my question.
so i decided to download a windows vista ultimate edition, 32 bit, and i burned it on a dvd and i putted it in my computer, and the boot from the dvd was good. then it asks where do you want to install windows, well, the page was blank it could not find any drives, or well, i dont know. then it says you want to load a driver, ( driver?? drive?? ) i dont understand this so good. i was hoping you guys can help me out, and i just want my normal pc back with a good vista, i cannot go to a pc store, becuz that takes too much time i wanna try it like this first
I just installed a fresh installation of Enterprisex64 a couple days ago. As I've been building up the system I mapped a drive to another computer on my network and continued to setup the new PC. Last night after installing a couple different DVD Burning programs (Roxio10 & Nero 8) I rebooted a couple times and noticed that my Security Center was turned off. I went into the services, turned it to Automatic and restarted the service.
Then I continued my work on building my system and realized I couldn't connect to my mapped drive, only to realize I could no longer see other computers on my network via Network Neighborhood or by \computername. My other computers on the network can see each other, just not this new box...........
I've an Asus f5sl laptop with Vista Home Premium (32bit) but it's been freezing on me lately. When I boot up, it gets to the black screen with the green bar but after a few seconds, the green bar freezes and I can't log in. Occasionally it boots up after around half an hour but then Vista periodically freezes for a few seconds before resuming (which is annoying when trying to write out something etc)
I don't see any problems in Safe Mode so is possibly a driver? I've updated all my drivers, completely updated using WIndows Update, ran antispyware, used System Restore etc. Only problem is; I've moved to a new country, and like a fool, I left my Vista start up disk back home. Which I would otherwise have tried.
I have installed Vista Ultimate. I've networked it and loaded Office 2007, adobe, cuteFTP and AutoCAD 2008. Everything worked great. I moved it to the work station area, and the only thing different I connect was a new 24" HP monitor. I found and installed the drivers for the monitor. I get no ? or errors in device management. But upon bootup every time I get this error message. "This computer must be restarted before updating can continue. Would you like to restart now." All of the MS updates have been done. I can still access the network, all programs seem to run correctly. I can surf the internet with no problems.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have "lost" my data from pc after using NewSID. I tried to change sid and then after 40 min of display message "changing new sid" I restarted computer. After reboot I got an little surprise, All my files are gone, some programs loaded from programfiles. Then I saw that there are two users in the user folder, before, was only one called "mis" (no password) and now there is this second user"mis.mis-PC" from here I can access program files, documents (empty), desktop (empty) but I cannot use most of the operations that use "user account control" so I cannot access user "mis" because popup asks me to enter password to gain control, but there is no field to enter password and the "OK" button is grey (nonclickable). When I want to switch user there are: "mis" and "other user" icons. Same problems are found using any of them.
View 6 Replies View Relatedhave been experiencing frequent crashes, freezes, and BSOD lately and after some research decided the video card/driver might be a likely culprit. ran memtest just prior to see if RAM might be the issue; no errors. uninstalled video driver; and was prompted to restart to finalize removal of old driver. however, the system now freezes on startup at the welcome screen when starting normally or in safe mode.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter booting up the computer the desktop freezes immediately. If it doesn't freeze up immediately I'll have some functionality, but minimal. I'll no longer have access to the internet (no network adapter present), can't run programs (they fail to open) or can't install programs/updates. I have even gotten a couple of Blue screen error messages such as: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
In safe mode with networking I do have access to the internet. When I try to download updates in safe mode I can't because Install shield will not work, or some other excuse. There are no restore points to restore to. There was a Windows Framework update on August 7th. I tried to uninstall it, but apparently it was never installed properly. No blue screens while in Safe Mode. I've been trying to problem solve this on my own, but with my limited computer repair skills I'm scared to try things.
online backup installed an update on my extremely stable Vista Home Premium. It asked me to reboot and when I clicked reboot, the system froze up. Every time I boot, it will freeze within seconds of loading the desktop.
I would seriously love to get this fixed as I have reinstalled Vista 4x, the last being 18-months ago
How may I resolve OR troubleshoot this issue? I have done a restore point back 2 weeks, but thats as far as I can go without getting an error.

i'm running Vista Home Premium on my laptop, 2 gb ram & it freezes. It freezes more often when left alone for 10-20min. Sometimes when moving the mouse it freezes. Task mgr. will not open so i have to shut down system. At times i get a error message & my hd is being scanned.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with my new Vista Machine. Any game I play on it ranging from "Fable-The lost Chapters" to "Call of duty 5-World at War" all freeze. They freeze at random times, it is not constant. Every time It Freezes, I can't do anything but hard reset, also there are no error messages or BSOD. I have checked the ram with memtest and all sticks passed, I checked the ram's timings and voltages, they are set to what the manual and sticker says. I checked the temperatures,everything runs at around 32-40 degrees. I have updated every driver on my rig, and reinstalled Vista, but the problem persists.
View 5 Replies View RelatedToday I was starting up my Custom Vista computer bought of Ebay as usual. The progress bar when starting that goes from left to right froze after liker 3 seconds. I restarted my PC using the button located on the actual computer. Then it prompted me to go into Safe Mode or Normal Mode. I went into normal mode and the same thing happened. I tried to restore my computer to an earlier date, which restored successfully, but it still freezes. I am now in Safe Mode with Networking and dont know how to get to Full Mode without it freezing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just did a clean install of Vista ultimate x64. I'm having a problem, though. It seems to be very unstable when I'm starting up - if I try to open programs while the OS is still loading all my run-at-startup programs, it'll just lock up. That's not the biggest problem, though. For some reason, if I try to install ANYTHING (i.e. quicktime, my video drivers, the windows updates), the computer will install it until it gets to about 20-25% of the install, and then just slow down to a complete stop. Like, at first the progress bar won't advance. After that, the desktop icons won't highlight when you mouse over them. Then you can't move windows (minimize, maximize, etc.), and finally, you can't move your mouse.
I just had vista ultimate x64 working on my computer a few days ago, and it was stable. I had to reinstall it because I downloaded window's updates, and there's one that (after some research) I found can cause some computers to not be able to boot. I suffered that problem.
PC1 Vista Ultimate, main PC for file sharing. PC2 Vista Ultimate, "sees" PC1, can access shared folders on PC1. PC3 Mac running OSX, "sees" PC1, can access shared folders on PC1. As soon as any shared file (not folder) is accessed on PC1 from PC2 or PC3, PC1 freezes and needs to be restarted. All PC's show up on each others network maps. If a file on PC1 is opened, copied, or a file is sent to PC1, it freezes.
This happens with or without firewall running. My setup intention is to have PC1 hosting all the shared files and PC2 and PC3 can grab files off PC1 as well as put files on PC1. This is my first attempt at networking so bear with me. I have all computers talking to each other, just PC1 freezes during and shared file attempt.
My Vista Ultimate-SP1 PC continuously freezes for a few seconds, it freezes then I hear a "click" noise coming from my hard drives and it works again for a while...after a couple of minutes or even less it happens again.. I have all the Vista updates and all my software and drivers up to date, I have already unsuccessfully tried everything and I' don't know how to solve this. I have not reformatted to reinstall Vista, as I learnt searching Google that other Vista users are suffering an identical problem even after several clean Vista Installs.
View 6 Replies View RelatedFor a at least a month now my computer has been freezing about five minutes after starting the boot-up sequence (as in 5 minutes after hitting the power button). No BSoD or anything. Just a freeze. I have tried many different things to troubleshoot. First let me tell you my specs and then I'll tell you what I've already tried so far.
Running Windows Vista x64 SP1 now here's what I've tried so far: initially tried system restore to a point before the problem started scanned for viruses and malware using Avira, Trendmicro online scan, Avast, Superantispyware and Malwarebytes upgraded my motherboard's BIOS returned all settings to stock upped the videocard fan speeds using Rivatuner replaced the video card ran chkdsk searched google endlessly for solutions I may be forgetting other things.
I'll let you know as hey are proposed. Usually I can finally get it to boot after several tries and I can play games normally and whatnot. Just now I was finally able to get it to boot on the 5th try. Another symptom that may or may not be related is that sometimes it freezes when you attempt to do something like attach a photo to a web-based email or upload photos to an online photo site. I built this system myself and I really hope I can get this fixed. I think my wife may be losing faith in me! Let me know any other info I can post that might help. My technical proficiency is pretty high.
I just installed Crysis and have it running on 64 bit. I can only play for a short while until it either freezes or does the thing where windows closes it out saying it stop responding.
