It's new laptop and just was running installation (Home Vista Premium), then suddenly a error message "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click "OK" or restart the computer, and then restart the installation". But no matter what I've tried, that message appears again.
View 4 RepliesComputer freezes while i'm in the middle of something, the mouse pointer will get "stuck" for 3-4 seconds, then the screen goes black (but the power is still on). I get no message, and nothing works except for holding down the power button to turn off the pc. When I restart there is no record of any problem in the problem history.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThere are two times when I have noticed it stopping for a reason. Other times I do not know why it shuts off. Once it stopped after I had a flash drive in the USB port. I did the proper procedure for "safely removing" it, but the computer still shut off when I took the drive out. Another time the computer more or less went to sleep. I was able to restart the computer without it rebooting. I wonder if there is some way to set the time for it to do this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop that this past week decided to do a Windows update and afterwards was running at 100% cpu and really slow. After everything I did and everything I knew to do I decided to clean the HD and re-install the OS. I partitioned the HD and tried to install Vista. It got all the way thru to the point it was "suppose" to reboot and ask for my name and comp info and just shut down. When I turned it back on a window popped up saying something to the effect of "windows restared unexpectedly or had an unexpected error please select ok to restart your computer and installation of Windows" so then I have to re-install all over again and it failed again and again. I ran the pre-boot system assessment and found out my HD crashed. I installed a new HD and ran the pre-boot assessment again and everything checks out but I'm still getting the box to pop up cause it keeps turning itself off at the same point as I mentioned above. I can't/ don't know how to get into DOS so I can check the motherboard but I'm getting ready to throw this thing up against the wall.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have "lost" my data from pc after using NewSID. I tried to change sid and then after 40 min of display message "changing new sid" I restarted computer. After reboot I got an little surprise, All my files are gone, some programs loaded from programfiles. Then I saw that there are two users in the user folder, before, was only one called "mis" (no password) and now there is this second user"mis.mis-PC" from here I can access program files, documents (empty), desktop (empty) but I cannot use most of the operations that use "user account control" so I cannot access user "mis" because popup asks me to enter password to gain control, but there is no field to enter password and the "OK" button is grey (nonclickable). When I want to switch user there are: "mis" and "other user" icons. Same problems are found using any of them.

I restarted and after log in, after 1minute my vista freezes...all i can use is MSN, this is only program what is working, other programs are freezed. View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought sims 2 to play on my Toshiba laptop, which runs with Vista, and it worked fine for aaaages, but then one day when i took my sim lady downtown, it froze while loading the downtown screen, and when i restarted and re-opened that family, it wouldnt work and was constantly frozen. since then it crashed everytime i tried starting sims or saving a family id made. it doesnt even stay on long enough to move a family into a house. I dont get an error message, it just stops loading or freezes. When i ctrl alt and del it says the programme is not responding. I bought sims seasons, and im still having the same problem. i have ran numerous virus checks and my laptop is fine. ive also uninstalled and reinstalled many times. Ive also tried changing game compatability without success. Ive gone as far as going and buying a new sims 2!

I have tried to download the support ware as suggested and get a message "Installer encountered an error 0x8007000d. I have tried everything I can think of for 4 days. I do not believe I should pay $60 for help from the people who are responsible for this fiasco. Toshiba will not help with this. Microsoft tells me my PID was entered wrong.....I copied it right off the computer. Am I at the end of the trail here - should I just throw the darn computer out the window? I cleared out my outbox, restarted windows mail, no luck. Turned Mcafee off for emails,restarted windows mail no luck.
At the moment I have no Office because I was advised when Word 2003 would crash on start and have to be restarted in safe mode to uninstall and reinstall it. Now I can't get it loaded at all. My very expensice IT guy spent 2 hours and gave up the HP people (this is a brand new laptop) said Vista isn't compatible with Office Pro 2000 which we upgraded from...I have 8 computers running 2003...The other issue is that when I click on a message in hotmail it crashes. No message, just a freeze. What a hassle - I have no Outlook because of problem 1 and no hotmail because of problem 2. Wish I'd been warned... I guess I really was - all those HP machines with extra cost to be 'downgraded' to XP.

I have a new WD external hard drive that I'm trying use with Vista Ultimate, but when I connect the drive I get an error message saying,
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. USB Mass Storage Device Access is denied" I found a KB article which seems to be related, but even after acquiring and installing the hotfix I still can't get the drive to install. I bought the Vista Home Premium Upgrade and when I went to install it, I chose to do a fresh install. When my PC restarted the screen was blank for a really long time, then the mouse arrow popped up and the screen was still blank. I checked the Hard Drive light and it wasn't blinking. I put my ear to my PC to see if I could hear it working and it was just running normally. I turned my PC off and I can't install Vista now. It says to start the installation from XP with the key that I'm using.
The problem is that XP came with my PC in a partition of the hard drive. I can't access the partition anymore. I hate the fact that I didn't recieve a disk with the operating system that my PC came with, and I will never buy another PC with the restoration and installation files in a partition. I can't even format my hard drive in BIOS because of the way it's set up. s there anything I can do other than calling the company to get an XP start up disk which I was told will cost me $40-$80?
i got a computer, wich i baught new in the store's and it had windows vista already preinstalled. it was windows vista home edition 32bit. but after alot of stupid things of me becuz the pc was very slow, i decided to format the whole pc, and install windows xp on it, i got the xp cd , and i putted it in, and it just wont install windows xp on it, everytime, i get the blue screen and it restarted everytime the xp installation, so first you can format the partitions, then it requires a reboot, and then the xp installation starts again from scratch, so its unable to install xp, but thats not my question.
so i decided to download a windows vista ultimate edition, 32 bit, and i burned it on a dvd and i putted it in my computer, and the boot from the dvd was good. then it asks where do you want to install windows, well, the page was blank it could not find any drives, or well, i dont know. then it says you want to load a driver, ( driver?? drive?? ) i dont understand this so good. i was hoping you guys can help me out, and i just want my normal pc back with a good vista, i cannot go to a pc store, becuz that takes too much time i wanna try it like this first
I just installed a fresh installation of Enterprisex64 a couple days ago. As I've been building up the system I mapped a drive to another computer on my network and continued to setup the new PC. Last night after installing a couple different DVD Burning programs (Roxio10 & Nero 8) I rebooted a couple times and noticed that my Security Center was turned off. I went into the services, turned it to Automatic and restarted the service.
Then I continued my work on building my system and realized I couldn't connect to my mapped drive, only to realize I could no longer see other computers on my network via Network Neighborhood or by \computername. My other computers on the network can see each other, just not this new box...........
I installed microsoft office 97(I found the CD) on my vista and each time i try to insert a picture or some clipart it will say" The clip Gallery Encountered and Error. Try restarting Windows or reinstalling microsoft office applications." and then it will stop responding and not save my work

I have been experiencing an unexpected shut down with my laptop since I got it which was in Jan 2008 up till now 5 times >>>>it happened in a month twice where there is a gap of two month between the incidents.. Today was the 5th and I was able to write what the report said on the blue screen since I have made my setting for the computer not to reboot after an unexpected shutdown... Don???t know if I could get a help here as to what could be the cause... some are listed just don???t know where to start from or what to do or if I can do anything before sending it to the vendor..

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just been using my computer (XP) and have lots of applications running, taking up a lot of memory, even when minimized. Then it hit me - why not (probably in an upcoming version of windows) have an extra button near minimize/maximise, that puts the application into hibernation? The idea being that if the application needs no interaction, like possibly you are writing a word document, but you are waiting for some information to put in it via email. In this case, you don't really want to close word, as the email may arrive at any time. On the other hand, you aren't using word, so it is running in the background, taking up resources.
Why not make it so that when you click the 'Hibernate Application' button next to minimize, it minimizes the application, and writes the active memory onto the HDD. Then when it is restored, load it back out of the HDD into the RAM (much like the way the Hibernate Windows feature works). Certain applications won't be ideal for this, such as if you hibernated an mp3 player, it would result in stopping playback. But for other uses, this seems an excellent feature. It could even be expanded to restore individual applications to their working state after a full reboot (the applications would be there when you logon). This would safegard against losing your minimized word documents that you have open, if there is an upexpected shutdown or reboot. I understand that there is some optimisation going on when you minimize applications anyway, but I'm talking about total hibernation.
When ever i installed any automatic update my computer gives me unexpected shut down and BSOD ( blue screen of death). 1-wat should i do install any update or not? 2-if i do not install it would be right to do for my windows security or not?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista Home Premium on an HP dv9000 laptop. A couple of weeks ago, my laptop decided to shut down on its own. No error message, no blue screen... it just shut down. It does not restart. It will not start again for two or three minutes after it first shuts itself down. At first, I thought it was a problem with a game (The Sims 2), and maybe my graphics card (an nVidia GeForce 8800, IIRC). Then, it started doing it at other times, sometimes when I was just surfing the internet. I can give more information about my system upon request.

my dad bought a Gateway (model:GT5428) desktop about two years ago. well not long after that it started to shutdown unexpectedly. ofcoarse my dad thinking that it would cost a butt load of money to get it fixed. so he tried to fix it himself and asking my step-grandfather to help him, but the problem still continues.
Here I'll give detailed discription of what usually happens: when logging in, the unit's fan gets really noisy as if its handling alot at once. if we open a program like internet explorer to soon it will shutdown; so we usually wait a while until we think it's ok to open the program. but after shutting down a blue screen appears and then it reboots. now in safe mode it works fine so I'm pretty sure it's not a Ram problem but I believe it maybe a driver issue concerning some hardware( a linksys wi-fi adapter) that was installed by someone at circuit city when he bought the computer. so I need help finding the problem. Problem reports and solutions has logged in 366 unexpected shutdowns since 2007.
Windows shuts down unexpectedly. Is there a way to pinpoint the cause based on the logs and errors that Vista produces? I have read at least a half dozen reasons suggested for this type of occurrence in general and wonder if there is information being captured by the system that can help pinpoint the cause for my specific case.
