Windows Shuts Down Unexpectedly

Windows shuts down unexpectedly. Is there a way to pinpoint the cause based on the logs and errors that Vista produces? I have read at least a half dozen reasons suggested for this type of occurrence in general and wonder if there is information being captured by the system that can help pinpoint the cause for my specific case.
Problem Reports and Solutons / View Problem History shows 11 instances of this, 7 today at approximately 1/2 hour intervals and one 5 days ago, one 6 days ago and two 7 days ago. It says: Windows / Shut Down Unexpectedly / (date & time) Solution Available. However whenever connected to Microsoft site it never comes back with any solution. I'm running Vista Home Premium on an HP dv9000 laptop. A couple of weeks ago, my laptop decided to shut down on its own. No error message, no blue screen... it just shut down. It does not restart. It will not start again for two or three minutes after it first shuts itself down. At first, I thought it was a problem with a game (The Sims 2), and maybe my graphics card (an nVidia GeForce 8800, IIRC). Then, it started doing it at other times, sometimes when I was just surfing the internet. I can give more information about my system upon request.

There are two times when I have noticed it stopping for a reason. Other times I do not know why it shuts off. Once it stopped after I had a flash drive in the USB port. I did the proper procedure for "safely removing" it, but the computer still shut off when I took the drive out. Another time the computer more or less went to sleep. I was able to restart the computer without it rebooting. I wonder if there is some way to set the time for it to do this.

I just bought a new Desktop, as so did my sister. Were both having the same problem. Once we try to turn off the computers they just keep restarting. It brings up a message windows shhutdown unexpectedly. Also when we try to shut it down it takes a really long time for it to log off and shutdown when it finally does and its starting up again.

I have had a succesful connection for over a year. Suddenly I can't send. I get the following message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

There does not appear to be any problem with my server. I can go online and send from my providers site. There is no long period of inactivity and no apparent network problems. I have not been able to send from home for 3 days now.

This problem started 3 days ago. I can recieve all emails, but can't send emails with attachments -pdf or pictures of any size, I can send plain/text emails. I have turned off firewall and stopped AV (avast). Have tried signing in authentication to outgoing mail server, have also tried changing from port 25 to 26. when I try to print an email, windows mail shuts down and then restarts. Of course I send the information when that pop up window appears. As yet, I have not received a reponse from Microsoft. I am running Vista Home Premium on a gateway laptop.

I've copied and pasted into my email many times. Now when I attempt this, the whole email program shuts down. I can copy and paste from another email in the program, but if I try to from a text doc or Word doc etc. the email program shuts down and I lose everything that was in the particular email I was writing.

Without a doubt the worst windows version ever made! Microsoft were finally on track with windows XP pro but they had to go and screw it up by bringing us vista! Nothing works, nothing is compatible every program supposedly compatible seizes or shuts down! It is constantly vulnerable to viruses! There's no end to the complaints I have about this crappy version of windows! Wake up microsoft because you're just soft now and nothing micro about it!

When I reboot my computer through Windows the computer shuts down correctly, but then the monitor remains black and the bios starts beeping out the error code for "VGA not detected". Why would this be? I am forced to press the power button and wait from 5 to 10 minutes to reboot normally. (I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate x64, have an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard and a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 280. 800 watts ZION power supply) Is this a BIOS settings or GPU problem? I already reseated the GPU. Could it be a power supply failure?

whenever a direct download starts without UAC check up that it does 2 anything or whenever any app gives error/crash or whenever i try 2 run command prompt my vista restarts ! i am really pissed off with its this kinda behaviour. any solution 2 stop unwanted these kinda reboots?

I bought a new computer with Vista installed and I called the help line to get everything set up. When the email did not send, the fact that the Windows Mail did not work was not a big issue. Here is the error message that I receive each time:

My new Dell Inspiron 531S shuts down unexpectedly several times a day. I have set up my account 5 or 6 times. I have roadrunner as my internet provider. the pop is pop-server.wi.rr.com and smtp is smtp-server.wi.rr.com I was able to send one email and then I closed windows mail. 10 mins later, went back in to try and send an email and I received this error message.

my pc started to shutdown by itself about two days ago.. it's a self-built with Intel Core2Quad Q6600, 4 GB Kingston 800 MHz RAM, nVIDIA 8500 GT, 320 GB WD SATA HDD, and ASUS P5K MB
i don't know the reason, but the night before it happened i detached the fan to clean it then re-attached it again "appropiately" and turned the pc on and it worked, and i did a deep system scan using trail version of BitDefender Total Security 2009 "which ends tomorrow btw" and i slept, and when i woke up the next day it was done and i read the report and all was good!
i turned it off, and by noon when i started it again, the problem appeared, and it started shuttingdown by itself since then..
i am writing this post while i am on SafeMode, and it's working on safemode and didn't shutdown in half an hour now ...

My windows xp that I have had for about 2 years suddenly started to shut down and restart on its own. Out of the blue, over and over. Boots up shuts down, Boots up shuts down. I use it for my business payroll and bill paying. When I do get it to stay on for a couple minutes I have to restart my active desk top. I have tried defrag and cleaning it up. Checked all my plugs and tried everything I can think of.

As an example, I can right click save them, view them on my machine = offline,but using the adobe.pdf helps at their web site.. when I hit the view pdf link, it close IE 7 down. I have all the adobe = pdf addon's turned on, Has no effect. How do I fix this ? I'm guessing I've been submarined by a new windows = update. This is not an OLD problem.

My computer has started shutting off randomly within 5 mins of startup. By shutting off, I mean it just turns off...no BSOD, no errors, just turns off...at random intervals that are usually within five mins. I updated my display drivers a few days ago, and they're currently at the highest version, but it's been a few days, and this just started this morning. It seems to be fine in safe mode (which I'm in now to post this)...which leads me to think it is, in fact, display drivers...but they're up to date, I have no solution there...now what?

While playing WoW after 5-10min the screen while stop moving, sound goes on some sort of loop making a dun-dun-dun repeatedly for about 8 seconds. The computer shuts down. Restarts. Once i've logged back in this message comes back up. I can play WoW again for 5-10min before this happens again.
Windows has recovered from an unexpected shut down.
