I'm running Windows Vista, but I have a PSC all in one that was originally programmed for Windows XP. I have gone to the PSC manufacturer and obtained an updated driver for the PSC, and I can install it and use the printer, but when I shut the computer down and restart it the driver does not stay installed. I have to re-install the driver every time I start the computer. Is there a way to make this driver stay installed?
I just got 3 vista PC into our current SBS 2003 network. What im seeying is that the printers will not stay or can even be setup as the default printer.
I jsut finished applying Vista Business SP1 to my Vista PC and didn;t see any change as to why the default printer will never stay ad the default when the PC is restarted or shut off. Does anyone ahve any ideas as to why this is happening because the issu is getting old fast.
i have installed a printer from my main pc which uses xp pro to my new vista lap top ----- it shows the icon for the printer in the tray but i cannot still print any thing
I recently bought a new laptop with vista and i have never used vista before. I have a HP Photosmart all in one printer and was trying to install it but it says i'm not in the administrator account and i've checked multiple times and i am. i called HP but they were not much...
i have problem with HP Deskjet 450 under Vista Home Premium. Printer is installed by Vista, everything looks ok, but i can't print. When i want to print Test page, only row of 2-20 smilies is coming out in best case and print job shows error . When i ask HP, they say Microsoft is responsible for drivers. Microsoft says i should ask HP. I slowly begin to be annoyed. Have bought short certified hi-speed USB 2.0 cable. Windows update shows that there is optional update for Other hardware - dj450 USB, dowloaded and it says it is not possible to install, error code: 80070103. Under Win XP are no problems. Is there any solution aside from buying new printer or downgrade to XP?Is there a way to install this update
Last night I rebuilt my Compaq Presario V6171CL notebook - reusing the same Vista 32-bit cd it was previously built with. All software as been activated. This time however, when I go to printers, add printer, network printer - windows explorer restarts. These apps have been installed: Vista 32 bit OS; Office 2007 standard; visio 2007; publisher 2007; Cute PDF, Adobe Reader & Outlook has been configured with one email account. All updates have been installed. User Account Control has been disabled and reenabled. I can install a local printer but not a network printer. The PC is attached to a domain correctly. Any Ideas how to stop explorer from restarting and getting the printer(s) installed?
I?m trying to install a network printer on a Vista machine. Vista is able to locate the printer on the network but when I select it for installation, for some time, Vista tries to connect and then pops up this message: "Failed Connecting to Printer - Access Denied" And then another window pops up with this message: "Spooler Subsystem Application stopped woring and has been closed." In fact the spooler service always stops, so I have to restart it on the services windows, within Administrative Tools of the Control Panel. The machine is new and has been installed yesterday. Everything else works fine. The printer I am trying to install is on a Windows XP Professional machine within the same network (naturally).
I have a Acer notebook. It had Norton security already installed. I removed this recently and put a AVG anti virus on. This seems to be fine. What I am finding is that when I turn on the computer the Firewall is off. I then reset it to on but again it is off on start up. This did not happen when Norton was installed.
We currently run a network of 14 servers and about 100 workstations. All servers run on Windows 2003. Our Exchange version is 2003 and all of our workstations run on Windows XP. I watched an MS video that stated that MS Mainstream support for XP will end 4/2009, and so the question has come up with our IT management of when and if we should upgrade all of our workstations to Vista. I know this is an internal decision, but would like anyone in the forum's input on their experience of doing this, and what can we expect if we don't upgrade and stay on XP.
I have a Dell PC with XP Home and a Dell A960 Printer attached to it. I also have a new HP Laptop with Vista premium that has also had the same printer attached to it at times so the drivers are installed on HP laptop. I recently installed a router so I can use laptop wirelessly. That works fine. However, I am unable to print to the host printer wirelessly. I get message saying printer cannot communicate with computer. I tried everything I found on Google searches. I have enabled printer sharing on both. Do I have to make the Workgroup names the same and if so do I change the Dell with XP or the HP with Vista? I changed the Dell once to no avail so I changed back. Do computer names have to be same? I am a novice at networking.
Dose anyone knows if they make a printer cable: I received a new lab top and it didn't come with the older printer jack on the computer. I guess I need to use one of the usb ports? My Epson 660 still works I hate the idea of getting a new printer when my old one works.
Just installed Vista SP2. Everything seems to work OK except for my Dell 1720 printer. It now prints an extra page before the actual document to be printed. There are just a few spurious characters printed at the top of this unwanted page. The following "proper" pages are OK. I have, so it seems, the lastest driver available.
I cannot set the default printer in Vista Business with SP1. I am connected to a domain trying to set a network printer hosted from a server as the default printer. I have seen a dozen or more questions similiar to this in this group as well as on other forums and found no answer. I see a MS-MVP come on and tell people to remove local printers such as the XPS and adobe printers. This is a ridiculous solution. Sure it may allow you to connect to a network printer but you have removed printers that you are going to need to use again. Unacceptable.
So far the only other solution that does not include deleting all the local printers off of the machine is to make sure you have write permissions to the default printer registry key. I have checked this and I do have write permissions(Full Control). SO WHAT NEXT? IS MICROSOFT EVER GOING TO COME OUT WITH ANOTHER FIX FOR THIS?
I can't seem to keep my internet to stay connecting. Every since I got this Belkin, my internet has it day. Some day it'll stay connecting and other day, I have to keep reboot the router or the computer. I was wondering if there is more then one reading on the IP Address or what.
Usually people want to get their computer to go to sleep or get their keyboard to wake up from sleep. Well my problem is that all devices other than my keyboard are set NOT to wake computer up from sleep but when I sleep my keyboard automatically wakes it up.
Can anyone help me figure out why my keyboard keeps waking up my computer automatically. Its a Dell SK-8135. I just want to be able to send my computer to sleep and wake it with the keyboard under normal situations.
I run Vista HP/SP2. The other day after various installs, updates and maintenance tasks I ran with no problems and ended the day by putting my laptop into hibernate mode. The next day when I powered on, my system would not come up...my system disk C: was corrupt. I finally got System Repair to run and it appeared to fix and recover my C: disk to the point that I can see my files still exist via Recovery command prompt. However when I restart, my screen goes and stays blank (black) with my cursor usable but to no purpose. I tried System Repair again but it tells me it can find nothing to repair. I tried starting in safe mode and it loads two screens worth of windows files before going to a blank (black) screen with my cursor usable but to no purpose. The last windows file loaded is a crcdisk driver file.
I am totally new to second life and I installed it on my new laptop 15,4 screen (Asus Z53S) dual core T7700, 2GB memory, graffic card Nvidia G Force 8600M GS Vista Home OS, but I don't manage to stay operational (?) more than a few seconds. I have cabble connection (usually 13500 kps download and 480 upload rate). What happens is when I start the game I manage to move (walk7fly) for a few seconds and I imediatly loose all control over my avatar (keeps walking/flying etc).
I have Vista Home Basic SP1. Recently my computer won't stay in the sleep mode. After less than 1 minute the processor wakes itself up. Any thoughts as to what might be waking my computer? I have recently installed a new virus protection program. Could that be the culprit?
I am running Vista-64 bit home, i had a friend build my computer and over clock. My problem is with the sleep feature. The screens turn off but the fans do not power down. when i type powercfg -a the command prompt will flash up really fast and then disappear...I was on step three Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems
My wife's desktop machine is a HP a1730n running Vista Home Premium. After putting it in standby, after a short while, it comes back up to operation. Most of the time it does this but sometimes, it will go all night staying in standby. I asked this group about this and got the advice to go to advanced settings in Power Options and change the multimedia setting "when showing multimedia" to "allow the computer to sleep". This seemed to fix it for a short while and then it reverted back to not staying in standby. I am looking for some more advanced wisdom on this problem and hope for a solution!
When I put my computer into Hibernate sometimes it will stay that way (all night), but, other times, with nothing changed from the night before, it will be Awake in the morning. What should I do to have Hibernate work all night every night?
Greetings, running Vista Home Premium 64-bit on a Dell system, has 2 optical drives (Blu ray burner, DVD burner). If I open one or both drives, moments later they will close on their own. This only happens when Windows is loaded (that is if I just boot to the BIOS screen and open the drives, they stay open), so Windows must be doing something that's causing the drives to close on their own?Note this is a fresh install of Vista, for various reasons we had to wipe the system and re-install Vista and the Dell drivers from scratch, there's no other updates (including MS Updates) applied - the Vista version is SP1 already though.
As you know, there are a number of formatting options for folders. Among these are the names of column headings, the order of the column headings, and the view (large, details, etc.). My problem is that after setting up the options the way I want them, they change upon the next startup of the computer - that is, they don't stay the way I set them. I have "Remember each folder's view settings" checked in Tools>Folder Options>View.
I like to put pictures on all my folders for videos and music. I just got an external hard drive because I need more space, so I moved the videos onto the new drive. The pictures did not stay on the folders when moved them to the new drive, and no matter how many times I try, I can't get them to show up on the folders. I tried saving a picture I want to use as "folder.jpg" within one of the folders, but that doesn't work.
everytime i log on to my PC (vista) the monitor will stay on for about 5 - 10 secs then go idle, but not stand by or shut down. i have to press the monitor power button frequently to try and get it to fire up,eventually(after a few re-boots) it will stay on,the OS is still working in the background but no screen.
I'm using Vista Home Premium, 64bit, with SP1 update. Problem: I have "recycled" several files thinking that they would stay in the recycle bin until I emptied it.... like in XP. However, the Vista Recycle Bin seems to empty itself. When I go back a few days later, the bin is empty, though I did not empty it. Hence my question: How long do files stay in Vista Recycle Bin? Is there a setting to keep it from auto-clearing the Recycle Bin?
If I push the power button on the start menu, my computer goes to sleep, monitor goes off and hdrive stops spinning, and without touching a thing.....my computer comes back on repeatedly every few minutes. I have tried changing all the power settings, I don't understand why it wont stay asleep.
