I like to put pictures on all my folders for videos and music. I just got an external hard drive because I need more space, so I moved the videos onto the new drive. The pictures did not stay on the folders when moved them to the new drive, and no matter how many times I try, I can't get them to show up on the folders. I tried saving a picture I want to use as "folder.jpg" within one of the folders, but that doesn't work.
View 7 RepliesGreetings, running Vista Home Premium 64-bit on a Dell system, has 2 optical drives (Blu ray burner, DVD burner). If I open one or both drives, moments later they will close on their own. This only happens when Windows is loaded (that is if I just boot to the BIOS screen and open the drives, they stay open), so Windows must be doing something that's causing the drives to close on their own?Note this is a fresh install of Vista, for various reasons we had to wipe the system and re-install Vista and the Dell drivers from scratch, there's no other updates (including MS Updates) applied - the Vista version is SP1 already though.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am new to this forum. Recently, I have been not able to see thumbnails of pictures. All i can see is the standard river and tree like thingy. Secondly, I can't open folders in the same window. Each time i double click, it gets opend in a new window. I tried different methods to both the problems like going to folder options, unchecking "always show icon, never thumbnails" , a full scan of my system( using norton). I even tried some of the solutions posted in this forum. But still both the problems are not solved.
One thing i noticed is that, when i on my computer, i can see thumbanils for few seconds then all of them get changed to the standard image.(river and tree). Could this be due to a virus or something?
For some reason Vista now does not show any previews of pictures; pictures saved on my desktop are now only shown as icons and not the picture, same goes for every folder in the computer and for video files as well.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn some folders in photo gallery I have multiple copies of the same picture. Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the extra pictures. If I try to delete it put the picture in the recycle Ben and deletes it from the Document/Pictures folders. Is there a way to clear folders in Photo Gallery or even clear the entire Photo Gallery and start over?

I've tried everything and a couple of new little programs that are supposed to give me "ownership". Nothing will work for me. Right now I'm trying to move my Audible Books from old to new drive and cannot. I can't even delete them! I've turned UAC off and no change. Vista has me stumped.
View 9 Replies View Relatedthis is driving me crazy! I have now experienced this 3-4 times. It happens all of a sudden, and is scary. Some or most of my data suddenly disappears from my user folder (C:/users/username). First time it happened immediately after I installed Spyware Doctor, back in April, when they first released the x64 version. I have since restored all the data, and uninstalled Spyware Doctor. However, it happened again. The last two times, it just happened. I simply noticed that I had much more free space on my C drive (40GB more than the day before).
Last weekend, it mostly affected my photos, but other folders were missing also. I am running x64, on a HP machine with 6GB RAM. Luckaly, I perform multiple backups (TrueImage and Ghost), as well as Mozy. In each case I was able to restore all data, but it takes time, and more importantly, I don't trust my computer. I live in a fear - will my data be there tomorrow??? Or, has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Is it safe, or possible to compress the Programs folder in my C drive??.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm going to send my laptop to HP for repair. So I thought I should remove all my documents and other data before that. I did a Ctrl-X on all the folders under User (such as Documents, Pictures, etc) and a Ctrl-V on my portable harddrive. I suppose that was a mistake for now, Vista always looks for that drive. How do I undo my stupid mistake?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with files on my new computer, Vista 64 Ultimate. I have my OS and Apps on C drive, and all my data on a separate physical drive which I call F. Today I sent documents and some pictures from the F drive to my Users file under Document and Pictures. But when I checked my C drive I found Users there, and the docs and pictures I moved. I'd like to have my data so I can click on Documents or Pictures and find them, but not in C drive. I want them in F. Don't want anything in C, but the OS and Apps. Can't figure it out.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently had strange pixilated images mixed in with our photos when playing music and selecting slide show, our photos appear along with random images, they are not coming from MY PICTURES folder as i have right clicked when the odd pic appears and they are coming from random folders that i can't find.
I thought the strange graphics were coming from itunes or Tom Tom so i have uninstalled them both...but the images keep coming. How do i stop media center looking and producing these annoying images
All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented. I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.
I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update?

2)which folder cannot be shared? can you think of reason why an operating system might not allow certain types of folders to be shared ?

I have a Acer notebook. It had Norton security already installed. I removed this recently and put a AVG anti virus on. This seems to be fine. What I am finding is that when I turn on the computer the Firewall is off. I then reset it to on but again it is off on start up. This did not happen when Norton was installed.

Our Exchange version is 2003 and all of our workstations run on Windows XP. I watched an MS video that stated that MS Mainstream support for XP will end 4/2009, and so the question has come up with our IT management of when and if we should upgrade all of our workstations to Vista. I know this is an internal decision, but would like anyone in the forum's input on their experience of doing this, and what can we expect if we don't upgrade and stay on XP.

View 9 Replies View RelatedUsually people want to get their computer to go to sleep or get their keyboard to wake up from sleep. Well my problem is that all devices other than my keyboard are set NOT to wake computer up from sleep but when I sleep my keyboard automatically wakes it up.
Can anyone help me figure out why my keyboard keeps waking up my computer automatically. Its a Dell SK-8135. I just want to be able to send my computer to sleep and wake it with the keyboard under normal situations.
I'm running Windows Vista, but I have a PSC all in one that was originally programmed for Windows XP. I have gone to the PSC manufacturer and obtained an updated driver for the PSC, and I can install it and use the printer, but when I shut the computer down and restart it the driver does not stay installed. I have to re-install the driver every time I start the computer. Is there a way to make this driver stay installed?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI run Vista HP/SP2. The other day after various installs, updates and maintenance tasks I ran with no problems and ended the day by putting my laptop into hibernate mode. The next day when I powered on, my system would not come up...my system disk C: was corrupt. I finally got System Repair to run and it appeared to fix and recover my C: disk to the point that I can see my files still exist via Recovery command prompt. However when I
restart, my screen goes and stays blank (black) with my cursor usable but to no purpose. I tried System Repair again but it tells me it can find nothing to repair. I tried starting in safe mode and it loads two screens worth of windows files before going to a blank (black) screen with my cursor usable but to no purpose. The last windows file loaded is a crcdisk driver file.
I am totally new to second life and I installed it on my new laptop 15,4 screen (Asus Z53S) dual core T7700, 2GB memory, graffic card Nvidia G Force 8600M GS Vista Home OS, but I don't manage to stay operational (?) more than a few seconds. I have cabble connection (usually 13500 kps download and 480 upload rate). What happens is when I start the game I manage to move (walk7fly) for a few seconds and I imediatly loose all control over my avatar (keeps walking/flying etc).

putting it in standby, after a short while, it comes back up to operation.
Most of the time it does this but sometimes, it will go all night staying in
standby. I asked this group about this and got the advice to go to advanced
settings in Power Options and change the multimedia setting "when showing
multimedia" to "allow the computer to sleep". This seemed to fix it for a
short while and then it reverted back to not staying in standby. I am
looking for some more advanced wisdom on this problem and hope for a

Among these are the names of column headings, the order of the column headings, and the view (large, details, etc.). My problem is that after setting up the options the way I want them, they change upon the next startup of the computer - that is, they don't stay the way I set them. View 5 Replies View Relatedeverytime i log on to my PC (vista) the monitor will stay on for about 5 - 10 secs then go idle, but not stand by or shut down. i have to press the monitor power button frequently to try and get it to fire up,eventually(after a few re-boots) it will stay on,the OS is still working in the background but no screen.
