I have used my HP m7763w with Vista Home Premium for more than 2 years now, and finally got to the point of having to use my rescue CDs to reformat the HD and reset to factory setting. Unfortunately, I get frequent error messages now, and missing file notices, and Windows Update refuses to work. I understand that the old factory settings are way outdated by now, but what am I supposed to do to get it all working right, if Windows Update fails?
ok im tryimg to restore my dell inspiron 1525 laptop to factory settings.(also i run vista home premium 32bit). I have tried the f8 advancted options and people say i should see a command to restore to factory settings but it dosent show up for me. can anyone help me out
I am using a HP Pavilion dv6000 running Windows Vista Home Premium. My computer has numerous problems: it won’t load certain websites, windows updates won’t work, I can’t load or re-download windows defender, I can’t download software from Microsoft.com…..and so on and so on. I have searched and searched the internet and tried many solutions from many different forums with none of them working. My last resort is to restore the system to factory settings however that too presents a problem. The files in my HP_Recovery drive have been deleted and the recovery disks that I created were lost when I moved. I know it’s a long shot, but is there any way I can restore my system to factory settings without the HP_Recovery partition or recovery disks?
I need to do a complete factory reset on my Gateway. The restore discs that Gateway sent me no longer work (I've had to factory reset previously) and the OS disc that Gateway sent me isn't reading in my T-6835 laptop. Since I reset my hard drive previously, I don't have Gateway Recovery Manager. I do have a recovery partition though, but I can't access it for some reason or another. I have tried tapping alt + f10, f10, and r at the beginning but to no avail.
A few weeks ago my computer died from a windows update it automatically did, i managed to get back onto the computer by booting my OS disk to save my files and now i need to completly restore my computer back to factory settings. I Don't want to restore it back to a certain point, or repair my system as i log on, which is all i seem to be able to find in other posts, i just want to completly restore it back to day 1. F11 doesnt work when i turn my computer on (yes im doing it right and ive tried it LOTS of times), F8 brings up a screeen i dont want, booting from teh OS disk just boots the pc normally and alt F10 doesnt seem to be bringing the page that i need up, just an editing page.
I just restored my Dell Inspiron to it's original factory settings. It has Vista Home 32 bit. I got the "Reset was succesfull" screen. Now at start up I get my user name (there was always only one user acct.) and when I type my password it does not accept my password. It may be possible that when I purchased the computer three years ago I used a different password and then changed it and have just orgatten that I did that but I doubt it. Should I just throw this thing away or is ther any solution to get past the welcome screen?
I had to do a disc recovery which took me back to factory settings. Most things are required to be set up from scratch. Do I have to set up my e-mail account all over again?
I recently had to to re-install vista, my comp was infested with viruses and they had written themselves over my sytem restore points, so I went ahead and just reinstalled vista. Now thought its asking me to activate vista. I keep trying to enter the key but I get an error saying that key is only for upgrades, not fresh installs. I dont know what to do, I have upgraded my comp significantly since I originally got vista so that may be why but now what? Im not dropping 59 bucks to talk to someone from tech support and Im sure as heck not buying a new key.
XLG security center screwed my laptop - trying to repair or re-install but I downloaded, and burned the img file for Vista 32bit But I get the Error Code: 0x80070002 and cannot read from e:sourceinstall.wim WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? I really need my laptop to work asap!
when i get it reinstalled, (no the repair feature didn't work) i'll let you know how smart i was to have a separate hard drive just for data -too bad MS isn't smart enough to keep all my settings, email, downloads, updates (that reminds me - i think i have to download service pack again (i'm on dialup)) high scores and program files on a separate drive --
I've been told in this forum that appls must be reinstalled into Program Files, not simply copied from a Backup. Yet some of the copied appls (WinMX, WinAmp, Audacity, etc) run fine. Others won't. What determines the correct prodedure?
I recently purchased a Gateway laptop M-6888U that had no software disc provided. I was told by Bestbuy to simply backup my entire drive. I wish to know is there a way to make a recovery disc that WILL install a fresh copy of vista64 or am I screwed since everyone is trying to cut corners? I know I can make a recovery disc that works IF I have a working installation of my OS. My concern is if the drive gets corrupted and my OS needs to be reinstalled I'm screwed, with my only option being to purchase a new copy of Vista.
i successfully reformatted and reinstalled vista... but noticed that it freezes atleast once a day... I had a similar problem when I first got this PC w/ vista a few years ago. My buddy showed me a way to use vista (bare bones) w/o the frills that it has now.... anyone familiar w/ this? Once I made that switch it rarely froze.
I don't even have a Vista Computer, but one is arriving in a few days - Vista Ultimate My old XP computer drives two four year old printers - one HP all-in -one LaserJet and one Epson inkjet. When I installed these printers on the XP machine, each came with a CD with the installation software (drivers, manual PDF, etc..).I assume I now must get updated CD's or some other arrangement to get the printers re-installed. Here are several questions
1. Do the vendors usually either wash their hands and tell you to get a new printer? 2. How do I get the appropriate software? Printer vendor web-sites? 3. Generally, do pre-Vista peripherals, and particularl printer/scanner/fax machines install without problems?
I have just reinstalled vista and added a few programmes, i'd like to take out all the useless/not needed programmes installed with vista, i have unistalled a few is there more i could take out? Im not sure which ones i have to keep to keep my system running:

I have a problem with the security settings in IE7. Everytime I reboot my settings change and I have to restore them. I have the settings set in custom level to allow programmatic clipboard access but it disables that and some other settings after a reboot. what I can do to make my settings stick?
I have a Lenovo IdeaCentre K210 Desktop Vista HP system that came with a 500G HD that I Partitioned to ???C??? (Windows), ???D??? (Data files) and ?E? (Photos) drive. I recently purchased another 500G HD which was designated as Disk1 (the original HD was Disk0) and installed Vista HP on Disk1 and Partitioned the 2nd HD (Disk1) to ???F??? (Vista HP), ???G??? (data files) and ???H??? (Photos) and thought that I could format/delete the ???C???, ???D??? and ???E??? Partitions on Disk0 and use that HD for future storage but it appears what I want to do is not something that I am able to do. I was able to delete Partitions ???D??? and ???E??? and Formatted ???C??? but not all of ???C???, apparently there are some files on ???C??? (i.e. the original HD that contained Vista HP before I purchased the 2nd HD), that I am unable to erase / delete / format.
As best as I can tell, ???C??? is 125.5MB with 107.8MB Used and 17.7MB Free and contains the following folders: $RECYCLE.BIN, BOOT, System Volume Information. My objective / what I would like to do is, delete or format EVERYTHING on ???C??? so that I will have 500G HD, Disk0 that I can use for additional storage.I also would like to change and/or re-label Disk0 to be Disk1 and Disk1 to be Disk0, since this is the disk that contains Vista HP and all my programs, apps, data files, photos,?.
I recently had to have Vista Business reinstalled b/c my computer crashed. I have a complete backup on an external drive using Vista Backup & Restore (keeping my fingers crossed it is a good one) but it is from several months ago so I decided to have the tech that was checking out my computer do a backup before reinstall. Unfortunately, he couldn't backup everything and I am missing quite a bit of stuff. I have no idea how the complete restore would work. Am I able to select certain data to restore? Does it restore things back to their original location?
So today I'm enjoying my 2 day old Vista. I've had a crappy 2003 Compaq XP for EVER now, and I was happy to get a new computer, completely crappy OS or not. (Yes, I've heard the rumors about Vista, so I was prepared for lots and lots of hours of troubleshooting!) I want to look around and explore, so I click on my start menu. Nothing. The My Computer, Control Panel, etc etc etc is on there. But nothing. I click 'all programs', and it's all there. I tried to modify the settings on my start menu, I pressed OK and out of curiosity went back into my Start Menu settings to check-- And they were back to what they were before!!
My easy way out has always been, since my XP was crap, to completely restore my computer, suck it up, reinstall everything and start fresh. So I decided to add a new WinRAR .rar folder thing, put all my pictures in there, put it on Megaupload.com and download the file after I restore Vista. I right clicked. Went under 'New > (Empty)'.
I almost cried! My baby, my brand new vista, already encountering problems! I installed daemon tools, PHotoshop CS2, poweriso, AIM, itunes, basically my necessities, within the two day period. I turned my computer on, no problems. My norton preformed its scheduled scan this morning at 6am, and I had a trojan horse and it can't be repaired. I've had thousands of those on my old computer and it ran at full speed with no problems, but could this be the reason? I restarted it two, three hours ago so my daemon tools can finish installing, and that's when I realized my start menu and things were messed up. Also, when I went into my computer after I restarted, the theme was set on 'windows classic', my background was left untouched. I cannot drag and drop anything into the start menu. It says I can, but I can't. Desktop icons are fine. I also installed 16 or so updates because I guess my Vista isn't up to date-- It did it automatically. Also, links, pictures, etc, like 'My Computer', My 'C:' drive, 'My Pictures', pictures, music, etc in Folders, have a check mark beside them.
I was attempting to modify my vista theme when an error informed me of a missing browseui.dll.
I've tried downloading another browseui.dll and dragging it into the c:windowssystem32 folder, but the lack of a browseui.dll prevents me from using my administrator privileges to replace it. If that makes sense.
I'm running Vista Home Premium x64 I think. Not overly sure on this as the lack of a browseui.dll prevents me from looking.
I no longer have the vista os cd.
To sum it up, I need to bypass the administrator popup to put a new browseui.dll file into my system32 folder.
I got a DELL XPS M1530, which came with a WDC WD3200BEVT-75ZCT1 298.0GB Hard Drive Disk when I bought it. My computer got some problems,so DELL changed the HDD(which had a block failing) for me, and put in aFUJITSU MHZ2320BH G2 298.09GB instead. My computer is owkring fasterthan before and the problems that I had have all gone(like an eventviewer problem I had for a time ago), but my HDD now seems to makevery much "fan noise", and somtimes the clik.clickclickclick. thingand very loud, or at least I think that. Am I just a bit to fuzy with the sound or am I right?
I have just installed Vista x64 with a Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card, and I am experiencing graphics corruption in, particularly in 3d apps.
I sometimes get white horizontal lines across the screen and sometimes white blocks. In some 3d apps portions of the environment flicker out. they seem to disappear and I can see what is behind whatever object has disappeared momentarily.
Using Catalyst I can see that the graphics card never breaks 40% GPU utilization and the temperature never exceeds 40 degrees C.
I also had a very low end Nvidia 7500LE using the generic windows driver which also had the white lines, but I never tested the 3d apps with it.
Currently, if using the 8.2 ATI drivers, all seems well until I launch a 3d app. I have a 500 watt power supply.
I haven't been able to access the following sites on my laptop. Descriptions of the problems is included.
-Tumblr (Since October of 2009)
Cant access the site on my laptop. I can on my desktop though.
-Myspace (Since June of 2009)
I cant access the site. With a proxy yes. I crashed my desktop previously by use of a proxy so I really would like to not use one again.
-Facebook (Since Mid-January of 2009)
My inability to access face book has been a reoccurring cyclical problem for me, and it tends to dissapear for three weeks, then reappear for one. This problem was present on my desktop before I got my laptop.

My laptop is a HP Pavilion dv6 with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
My desktop is Windows XP (crashed twice)
I am not an obsessive user of the sites listed above. I use them to keep in contact with family and old friends.
I am the administrator on my laptop, and the only one who uses it.
My virus protection software is the newest version of Norton.
YES I have tried deleting the cache and cookies in my browsers, turning off the firewall, and tried command prompt and received no error messages. There are no blocked sites on my laptop.
I have tried Google Chrome, Safari, IE 7&8, and Firefox. NOTHING WORKS.
The error message that I receive is either unknown error, or "[insert browser] cannot access this webpage]".
when I sent mail with three photos attached the recepients cannot open them. As a test I send myself an email with the same photos on three occasions.First my computer sends 84 the same emails then 64, then the third time 32. They show in my inbox but then they are all condensed.
I had two XPSP2 clients that successfully used a third XPSP2 host to connect to the 'Net. Host used onboard NIC to the cable modem. Two additional NICs connected the clients to the host. I installed Vista x64 with the SP1 update on the host PC. After enabling the host to modem connection as shared, only one client can access the net. Both clients appeared in the connected clients tab to use the shared connection but only one can be selected. Both clients can access the host's shared folders, as well as the host can access both client's shared resources. How can I set up the host and the clients so all three can access the 'Net?
