Phenom 9600 And Vista 64 Bit Do Not Work
Mar 26, 2008I have been reading that the amd phenom 9600 and vista 64 bit do not work very well together.I want to go to vista ultimate but if it is just a waste of money I am not going to do it with a broken 64 bit system.My mainboard is a phoenix technologies with a nvidia mcp61 rev a3 chipset and will there be a bio's update in the future to correct some of the problems and this is a gateway 7020

Apr 13, 2008Why does a VPN connection setup with an XP computer so easy and it fails when I try to set up the connection with a VISTA Ultimate computer. Since Microsoft knows the default settings within XP to create the VPN connections why not have MS make available the necessary changes to the default settings in VISTA in order to make this connection work from VISTA. Have had to add an XP box at the office for on connection. And more money for MS software.

Jan 27, 2009I have very poor AMD Phenom 9600 benchmarks:
WinRAR = 454 w/TLB fix diabled Avg scores for my system 1,100
Call Juarez = 30 FPS Avg score = 45
Dont know whats wrong. Could it be a dead core? How can I check?
1) My WinRAR score with the TLB fix enabled is a sickening 80!!! vs 454 disabled. So I am certain that the fix was disabled at my score of 454.
2)Regarding number of active cores:
a) When I run task manager I see only ONE window for CPU in performance.
b) Running CPU-Z V1.49 shows ONE Processor ONE Core
c) CrystalCUPID V 4.15 shows only ONE of One cores (Code name Agena?) I should see 1/FOUR
d) In Vista Sidebar using mCPU Gadget: Shows Four cores HOWEVER
only ONE ever displays activity. I tested it by really loading up applications and Never saw activity of the other three cores!!!
I think I have a REAL Problem here. help

"A sneak peek given to the press by AMD, showcased their upcoming line of processors known as the "Phenom II".
The Phenom II are AMD's answer to Intel's newest chipset, the Core i7. Hoping to compete in the market with the Core i7 the Phenom II line of quad-core processors will be AM2+ compatible. The first two models to be released will have a clock speed that starts at 2.8GHz. However, one of the key bragging areas for AMD's line of Phenom processors is its overclockability.
AMD claims a 30-40% reduction in power consumption under full load thanks to their transition to a 45nm fab process. AMD has also stated that in addition to the 30-40% power consumption reduction that consumers can expect, they should also expect a 30-40% increase in performance over previous Phenom models.
In a demonstration, AMD displayed the overclocking power of the Phenom II X4, showing it hit 4GHz stable at 1.55v on air cooling with a temperature of 32?C. With water-cooling the CPU broke the 4GHz barrier with a 39?C temperature. For kicks and giggles the Phenom II was shown running stable at speeds higher than 5GHz on nitrogen cooling and even booted at speeds that were higher than 6GHz.
It's too early to say whether or not the Phenom II's can match the power of the i7's as we'll have to wait until benchmarks are released to do so, but the competition seems anything but idle. "

Feb 21, 2009I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit, and on one particular drive, I had backed up some files with extremely long names from a different system. The kind of stuff you find as temp files in the "Content.IE5" sub directory of "Temporary Internet Files."
Now, I'm trying to delete a parent directory where all these files are located. But Vista, in it's ultimate wisdom is giving me an error, indicating that it cannot delete these files becuse the overall path is too long - It suggested I move the files to a place with a "shorter path," but when I try, it won't let me do it for the same damned reason! The Source path is too long Nothing works.
Attempting to delete individual files, the parent directory, the "grand parent" directory all fail because Vista attempts to calculate/sum space and thus accesses each individual file, and fails because the "path is too long." When I try to rename individual files, it grays out the "rename" option. Is there any way I can either get rid of these files or bypass the "file length" warning so I can delete them? Formatting the drive is *not* an option. This is a SAN drive with lots of stuff on it and I'd never be able to off load it all.
Processor Power Management Works In Vista?
Mar 23, 2009After reading multiple articles on various site regarding how the processor power management works in Vista, I have yet to find a resolution to my current situation. I am running Vista Home Premium 32bit on my HP Pavilion tx 2110 with an AMD X2 Mobile Tech TL-62 2.1Ghz and 3gb of RAM. Whenever my laptop is unplugged from the wall and running on the battery, Vista seems to limit the processor frequency to 38% of the max (roughly 800mhz) no mater the power plan or processor load. While the computer is plugged in however, everything runs beautifully with the frequency at 100%.

Mar 23, 2008I have a fairly new desktop (8 months old) with windows xp. On another partition I installed Vista Business, then updated the chipset drivers for my system. The network adapter was not picked up so I installed it manually with the updated drivers from the manufacturer (integrated adapter) which seemed to work (it made a connection) but when I re-booted there was no network connection and the light on the card is not longer on. In the device manager it says the card is working properly. I tried reinstalling the adapter driver but to no avail. My network/internet connection works fine in XP. I'm suspecting it may be some sort of security issue or possibly something with the drivers although I contacted the manufacturer of the machine (Systemax) and they said they've had no reported problems with the drivers.

Fallout 3 Autorun Never Works
Mar 3, 2009I have had this problem for a long time, but i'm beginning to get really sick and tired of it.
First and foremost, let me quickly explain the issue:
- Autorun NEVER works
- When i insert a disc or USB device, nothing happens
- When i go to My Computer and double click on the drive, Vista asks me if i want to format the CD/DVD
- Vista thinks that every CD/DVD i insert is blank... This includes mounting an ISO via Daemon tools........

I really love this scanner and it's auto-restoration features for older photos, so I was not willing to give it up. I found the following website with instructions for finding the correct drivers. Apparently, Epson built support for x64, but hid the drivers within the installer for 32 bit systems. No search on any version of their support website shows driver downloads under 64 bit. I did what was described in that article, and have my scanner working beautifully on Vista x64. I can say that I downloaded drivers both from the European site as well as the U.S. site. The driver file each installs is no different, but the scan utility is a slightly different version. I went with the U.S. version in the end, it being what looks like a higher version number (3.04a instead of 3.0u... hard to tell if there's any real difference, as there was no language issues or anything).
