AMD Phenom II Hits 5GHz Stable

Nov 25, 2008

See what a little nitrogen cooluing will do!

"A sneak peek given to the press by AMD, showcased their upcoming line of processors known as the "Phenom II".

The Phenom II are AMD's answer to Intel's newest chipset, the Core i7. Hoping to compete in the market with the Core i7 the Phenom II line of quad-core processors will be AM2+ compatible. The first two models to be released will have a clock speed that starts at 2.8GHz. However, one of the key bragging areas for AMD's line of Phenom processors is its overclockability.

AMD claims a 30-40% reduction in power consumption under full load thanks to their transition to a 45nm fab process. AMD has also stated that in addition to the 30-40% power consumption reduction that consumers can expect, they should also expect a 30-40% increase in performance over previous Phenom models.

In a demonstration, AMD displayed the overclocking power of the Phenom II X4, showing it hit 4GHz stable at 1.55v on air cooling with a temperature of 32?C. With water-cooling the CPU broke the 4GHz barrier with a 39?C temperature. For kicks and giggles the Phenom II was shown running stable at speeds higher than 5GHz on nitrogen cooling and even booted at speeds that were higher than 6GHz.

It's too early to say whether or not the Phenom II's can match the power of the i7's as we'll have to wait until benchmarks are released to do so, but the competition seems anything but idle. "

Windows 7 Hits RTM

Jul 22, 2009

Microsoft today announced that Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 have hit the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) milestone. The software giant still has a lot of work to do, but the bigger responsibility now falls to OEMs that must get PCs ready, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) that are testing their new apps, and Independent Hardware Vendors (IHVs) that are preparing their new hardware.

The RTM build is 7600, but it is not the same one that leaked less than two weeks ago (7600.16384). We speculated that Microsoft may end up recompiling build 7600 until it is satisfied, but it only took the company one more shot to get it right: 7600.16385 is the final build number. Microsoft refused to share the full build string, but if you trust leaks from a few days ago, it's "6.1.7600.16385.090713-1255," which indicates that the final build was compiled over a week ago: July 13, 2009, at 12:55pm. This would be in line with the rumored RTM date but it is also the day Microsoft stated that Windows 7 had not yet hit RTM. Although the final build had been compiled, Microsoft still had to put it through testing before christening it as RTM.

I keep having this problem where using DVD Shrink or Windows Movie Maker will max out my processor between 90 and 100%. After a minute or two of converting a DVD or publishing a movie, my computer will just shut down. I've tried closing pretty much every other application I can and the problem still persists,

Severe Under Performance AMD Phenom 9600

Jan 27, 2009

I have very poor AMD Phenom 9600 benchmarks:

WinRAR = 454 w/TLB fix diabled Avg scores for my system 1,100
Call Juarez = 30 FPS Avg score = 45

Dont know whats wrong. Could it be a dead core? How can I check?

1) My WinRAR score with the TLB fix enabled is a sickening 80!!! vs 454 disabled. So I am certain that the fix was disabled at my score of 454.

2)Regarding number of active cores:

a) When I run task manager I see only ONE window for CPU in performance.

b) Running CPU-Z V1.49 shows ONE Processor ONE Core

c) CrystalCUPID V 4.15 shows only ONE of One cores (Code name Agena?) I should see 1/FOUR

d) In Vista Sidebar using mCPU Gadget: Shows Four cores HOWEVER
only ONE ever displays activity. I tested it by really loading up applications and Never saw activity of the other three cores!!!

I think I have a REAL Problem here. help

Phenom And Triple Channel Memory

Jun 13, 2009

I just read on another thread that my Phenom may not support triple channel. Does this mean we can't have 3 2GB sticks in the slots and we should get one more to even things up? (we had originally bought a 3 pack and I don't know if we can buy a single stick of that type here). I then read that having 4 sticks of DDR3 in can cause problems too - now I don't know what to believe

Can't Get A Stable Install

Apr 19, 2008

I have reinstalled Vista Ultimate 32 bit 2 times today because I thought I had a virus. I can't get a stable install. I get Vista installed and then start to install my programs when it hangs. After installation I installed Avast AV. Restarted, got connected and went to install my soundcard. As soon I clicked install I went into a loop or something. Nothing but the hourglass or whatever in Vista. I manually shutdown and decided to try the built-in soundcard. The other was a USB. As soon as I clicked anything I go to never, neverland. I can't get out of it unless I manually restart. This is the reason I reformatted to begin with. After restarting I go in to this loop or whatever whenever click anything.

Hardware: Overclocking Cannot Get Stable

Jan 23, 2010

I am having a problem with my PC. It is a home built with a Gigabyte EP45T Extreme motherboard with a Intel 9550 CPU, 4 GB DDR3 Corsair ram, Gigabyte Nivida GT280 video card and 2 700GB Sata 2 drives set up in a RAID0 array. I have tried overclocking and cannot get it stable. Runs fine for a time and then suddenly starts not to POST. I have gone back to completely standard to see if I can find the problem and even with that there are issues. The drive has two Primary partitions and one extended that is devided up into other partitions. The first primary holds Vista x64 and the second is going to hold Windows Server 2008 as a demo trial..........

Jun 19, 2008

I have 2 problems & maybe they are connected..I hope I have put in correct forum. I have a problem with my Monitor Samsung Sync Master 2232 BW, I have been running this Monitor perfect using Windows XP. When I recently upgraded to Windows Vista Home Premium, what happens periodically when starting my PC, my monitor can not handle my display settings of 1680 X 1050, what I have to do is alter moniter display settings to 1280 X 1024, turn off PC, then restart PC then reconfigure back to 1680 X 1070 to get my display settings working again.

Although the drivers are 100% up to date, can you advise what may be causing this problem. As this getts annoying having to reset & restart to get settings correct. I have a Dell Dimension 9150 with 2gb memory & ATI Radeon X300 X550 X1050 Series video card Pentium CPU 2.80 ghz - CPU 2.79 ghz, 160 gb hard drive. Also periodically when booting up the monitor will not show anything on screen, dont know if it has not booted correct or monitor display not working.

Any Stable Video Card For Vista64??

Jul 6, 2008

I need to find a reliable and stable video card for Vista64. I've been using an ASUS nvidia 8800 GTX for over a year and it really sux ...since i installed Vista 64Ultimate its getting worse. My first issue with it, was a power supply compatibility issue with my Antec 1000W power source when not recognizing the power it gets and the nvidia sentinel down-clocking the GPU ... now in Vista64 i have lot's of BSoD's, driver crashes and recovers, etc... I assumed they would eventially get the drivers right, but no luck yet.

My last BSoD it' regarding nvlddmkm.sys (0x00000116) which, from what i read on forums doesn't have a fix till now and can be also encountered with nvidia 9800 cards. So can anyone recommend a video card that its tested (ATI or Nvidia) and it runs smooth with a Vista64 system, with no major driver issues or BSOD's? PS I forgot to mention that i need a card suitable for most of the 3D games as WoW, AoC, Crysis with nice fps. My system is:

WiFi Not Stable Connection To The Internet

May 19, 2009

A while ago I bought a ASUS F3Tc and with it I got Vista: Home Premium. So, connecting to a wifi/wlan is no problem at all. But after a while the connection dies, no matter which network I connect to. Even if I sit 2 inches from the wireless router I get disconnectet after a short while.. And that is really bothering me.. because I'm a web-developer, and I have to have a stable connection to the internet. I know that there are alot of other people who have got the same problem as me.. And that is only with Vista. Cause if I install Linux on my laptop, the wifi is stable. And it doesn't disconnect at all.
