I just read on another thread that my Phenom may not support triple channel. Does this mean we can't have 3 2GB sticks in the slots and we should get one more to even things up? (we had originally bought a 3 pack and I don't know if we can buy a single stick of that type here). I then read that having 4 sticks of DDR3 in can cause problems too - now I don't know what to believe
View 5 RepliesAfter months of flawless performance my WMC is acting up on one TV channel and I can't figure out why. The only change recently was that I enabled the DVD Library to be displayed with a registry hack as per a seemingly reliable article I read.
This is only happening the first time after I boot. I call up WMC and go to the TV Guide. If I select Channel 50 (only) it will not tune in and I get a screen that says "Cannot Play Program" "The channel may not be supported. If you cannot tune to any other channel, restart WMC or restart the computer, then try again"
If I then use the guide to go down or up one channel they play OK and returning to ch50 - it then plays fine. Very odd. The registry tweak was, I realised afterwards, unnecessary as I'm not using this machine as a media center anyway and I'm not sure what the original setting was.
I have dual boot machine, XP and Vista on two separate SATA II hard drives. I am, hypothetically speaking, going to slot in 3rd 500Gb hard drive to install Mac OS 10.5.1. So far, hypothetically speaking, I managed to find instructions on how to install Kalyway on separate partition on the same hard drive but nothing on separate hard drive.
I am being paranoid of destroying boot loader, but I can not tell for certain which boot loader I am using when booting into Vista and which boot loader when booting into XP or they are two totally different ones. Basically when I turn my machine on, after a few seconds I get promoted to choose which OS I want to go to. That's what I want to get if I was, hypothetically speaking, going to install Mac OS 10.5.1.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI had a perfectly good dual boot Vista and XP system until I installed Windows 7 RC. I installed Windows 7 RC to a new partition on the Vista (slave drive) with XP installed on the master drive. Vista and Windows 7 booted okay but despite there being 3 options in the boot menu - Earlier Version of Windows (XP), Vista and Windows 7, XP would not (and will not) boot. The error message when selecting XP from the boot menu was that the boot.ini file is invalid; I then get a message saying that the system32hal.dll is corrupt or missing.
I used EasyBCD to restore a backup of the previous Vista boot loader which worked with XP. Windows 7 disappeared from the boot options but I still cannot boot in to XP - I get the same error message (boot.ini and hal.dll). I can boot in to Vista. EasyBCD tells me that there are 2 entries in the Vista bootloader:.....

WinRAR = 454 w/TLB fix diabled Avg scores for my system 1,100
Call Juarez = 30 FPS Avg score = 45
Dont know whats wrong. Could it be a dead core? How can I check?
1) My WinRAR score with the TLB fix enabled is a sickening 80!!! vs 454 disabled. So I am certain that the fix was disabled at my score of 454.
2)Regarding number of active cores:
a) When I run task manager I see only ONE window for CPU in performance.
b) Running CPU-Z V1.49 shows ONE Processor ONE Core
c) CrystalCUPID V 4.15 shows only ONE of One cores (Code name Agena?) I should see 1/FOUR
d) In Vista Sidebar using mCPU Gadget: Shows Four cores HOWEVER
only ONE ever displays activity. I tested it by really loading up applications and Never saw activity of the other three cores!!!
I think I have a REAL Problem here. help

The Phenom II are AMD's answer to Intel's newest chipset, the Core i7. Hoping to compete in the market with the Core i7 the Phenom II line of quad-core processors will be AM2+ compatible. The first two models to be released will have a clock speed that starts at 2.8GHz. However, one of the key bragging areas for AMD's line of Phenom processors is its overclockability.
AMD claims a 30-40% reduction in power consumption under full load thanks to their transition to a 45nm fab process. AMD has also stated that in addition to the 30-40% power consumption reduction that consumers can expect, they should also expect a 30-40% increase in performance over previous Phenom models.
In a demonstration, AMD displayed the overclocking power of the Phenom II X4, showing it hit 4GHz stable at 1.55v on air cooling with a temperature of 32?C. With water-cooling the CPU broke the 4GHz barrier with a 39?C temperature. For kicks and giggles the Phenom II was shown running stable at speeds higher than 5GHz on nitrogen cooling and even booted at speeds that were higher than 6GHz.
It's too early to say whether or not the Phenom II's can match the power of the i7's as we'll have to wait until benchmarks are released to do so, but the competition seems anything but idle. "

how can i overclock my cpu (AMD Phenom II X3 710 & Ecs Gf8200a Phenom-2 X4 Quad Core Mboard)? I do have Frequency / Voltage control in the bios. But i have never overclocked before so not sure how to do it correctly.

However, I have a requirement to learn about Vista and Linux so I recently bought a 500GB hard drive and intend to partition it in the following way: three partitions, each 50GB in size, one for XP, one for Vista Ultimate and one for Linux (probably Ubuntu) with the remainder of the disc probably split into either two or three partitions for music, photos and user documents/data. My question is, in what order do I install the operating systems, so that when I power up the machine, I'm presented with the choice of which OS to boot into?

(Under System information) And mine shows the same amount, sometimes. What can course this? I'm running Vista Ultimate x64, and he's running Vista Home Premium x86. [A little side question. When a motherboard supports Dual Channel ram, does the ram have to be dual channel for it to run DC? And (if I have 2 ram dimms) do I put 1 in DIMM A1 and one in A2, or A1 and B1 ?]

I own an Alienware Area-51 7500-R5 gaming desktop. I am upgrading to Windows Vista Ultimate x64. I am thinking to upgrade the RAM to 8GB. The only issue is that my system does not support Dual Channel RAM cards. Do they sell single channel RAM cards? I can't seem to find any. Another problem as well, I did a Crucial Memory Scan and it read: Maximum Memory Supported: 4096MB. Does this refer to that I cannot go over 4096MB because of my system or because of the Operating System I am running. I am running Windows XP Pro 32bit. I know 32bit can only process 4GB of RAM or 4096MB of RAM. But does the memory scan refer to the Operating System limit or how much my system can handle overall. When I bought it Alienware said I could do plenty of upgrades on it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium. I have two Hauppauge 1600s and a Nvidia 8600GTS. I have been receiving all my local digital OTA channels just fine since getting this machine 6 months ago, and now suddenly the local CBS affiliate, channel 4.1, is gone. Just gone. Dead. I get nothing but the No TV Signal blue screen. When I go to settings and check the digital signal strength, it is totally dead. The dreaded red bar. All other channels come in at six green bars, just like 4.1 did until this past monday.
I have tried re-setting up the guide, I have tried recording one digital channel while trying to view 4.1 to check if it's just tuner 1. Both times I get the blue screen. I then took the cable out of one of the tuner cards and ran it directly into my TV and the signal comes in almost perfectly. Why is the signal suddenly gone on just one channel?

I had 4GB physical memoryon the PC. With Windows vista 32 bit, available memory is shown as 3.3GB. I asked and was told that only under 64 bit windows, will the available memory be 4GB. When I upgraded to windows 7, I chosed 64 bit, but the available memory shown in the system is still 3.3 GB. Why is this and is there a way to make the full 4GB available? I have noticed an svchost.eve process runs each time I reboot which seems to bloat constantly although when I close it down it only frees up about 800MB, what's happening to the rest of my 8GB??? Apon browsing RealTekHD audio properites I discovered that the only options for Digital Output(RCA) were all 2-Channel under "Default Format" tab. However my front pannel Audio Output Jack(HD Audio 2nd Output) has an extra third tab labeled "Speaker Configuration" and has options for up to 7.1 surround but these settings do not impact my Digital Output(RCA) channel. Now my reciever does have a multi-channel input that could take advantage of the Analog Outputs in the rear but the distance is to great and multiple wires are expensive.

The machine is new, and I was trying out some apps and games, I was in Secondlife when I got an error messege saying I was out of memory and needed to free up memory. I shut down the app and restarted it. Runs but I watched Task manager and saw my free memory down to almost nothing after an hour or so. The cached seems very high.
I did alittle research and decided to set a second page file on my 1TB hard drive, (OS is on the other HHD's )( regulated by system for size ) I'm not really sure whats going on. Example of just task manager and this page openis attached. Again, any help would be great in getting the memory set up on here optimal.
I have 6gigs of DDR3 memory at 1600hz. Running on Vista 64bit and every now and again my memory performance just maxes out. The problem can occur around the time when I am installing something but I dont think its always this way. I have read forums where it could be the hardrives performing self diagnostics. I have all the latest patches for vista.

Windows is reporting 8 GB of Installed Physical Memory but is reporting only 4 GB of Total Physical Memory. I first noticed this when, after installing a game, the game system specs said 3092 MB of RAM.
I have checked the BIOS and it recognizes 8 GB. Memory Remapping is Enabled. Under Memory Remapping is "PCI MMIO Allocation: 4GB to 3328 MB" (?). MSConfig Boot Options shows Max Memory is not checked and no value in the box below. I tried enabling it and using 8192 as the value, but it made no difference. DxDiag shows 8 GB installed RAM. how I can get windows to make available all 8 GB of RAM? I have Vista Ultimate x64 Extreme, with 8 GB of memory, Q9300, and 2 velociraptors. I do NOT overclock, but would like Vista to use more of the memory. Typical load usage of memory is 2GB - about 25% of my total memory Maximum use of memory was 3GB - I would rather have Vista use memory than to use swap file. How can I get this done?

everytime i try to access a folder on my external hard drive (Toshiba 2.0 USB), it freezes explorer and and error message comes up saying out of memory, but i can't read it all because most of the window is just black.
also, before all of this started my NVidia graphics had a message pop up saying the NVIDIA Display Panel Extension cannot be created.
Possible reasons include:
Version mismatch. Reinstalling display drivers may solve this problem.

I am putting together a new build and since PC-6400 DDR2 is sooo cheap I thought I might consider 8GB on an X38 board. I already have 2x2GB dimms, and was guessing if I went to 8GB it might be nice to have 4 identical DIMMS, which are still available (ie, another 2x2gb of the pair I have now). Anyone have wisdom about this? My main uses NOW are MS Flight Simulator, Gigastudio, and both of those benefit from at least 3GB, beyond that I don't know. I don't forsee video editing.
