What Dvd Burner Works In X64?
Mar 12, 2009
Most posts want advice on how to resolve an issue with existing hardware or software. I'm asking for advice on what to buy to avoid any issues. I need a SATA DVD burner for my new x64 build. So far I just have the case, power supply, and processor. In my wish list is the RAM, MB, HD, and OS. Each has been verified to at least "work" with x64 Vista according to the MS compatibility list. Now I'm looking for a DVD burner that some of you existing x64 users have installed and like.

I am trying to make an audio CD. Using CDburnerXP however it isnt' recognizing my burner. I have a HP notebook dv7 vista 64. I had previous troubles trying to burn movies. I am afraid I may have deleted something I shouldn't have. Does anyone know how I can get the drive to become recognizable? Is there drivers I need to go back and download?

I am using an audio editor called WaveLab Essential 6. When I create a CD Montage of songs and try to WRITE to CD, it opens up the WRITE CD dialogue box and shows my device as Optiarc DVD/RW AD-7580A. Everything seems fine until I choose to WRITE. At that point, it shows that the CD creation progress is 100% and says that the CD was created successfully. The elapsed time shows 5 seconds and Saved Data shows 52.12 MB (5'9'' of audio). The real problem here is that the CD is still blank and nothing was recorded on it. Can anyone recommend a solution to get this CD Burner to actually write? It works fine in Media Player. I am using Windows Vista, Intel Pentium Dual Core, 3 Gigs, the CD drive is listed above.

I bought a new ASUS M51SN laptop last month running Windows Vista. I have subsequently loaded MS Office 2003, Skype, Norton SystemWorks and NERO8. I recently upgraded Vista with SP1, Nero, Skype and Norton to their latest versions and the ASUS Bios to 304. While I had a number of software problems prior to these upgrades, I placed my faith in the Vista upgrade, but am still left with a number of irritating problems.
My DVD burner has disappeared from Windows and Norton while Nero is still happy to test it (Diskspeed). The device manager says everything is good, but I cannot see the DVD in either Windows Explorer or My Computer. In the event log, I can see that the unit has encountered a number of bad block events, as well as a number of errors during a paging operation...............

I insert a blank DVD and the computer won't even recognize that there is a disk in the drive. I've used these blank DVD's to burn movies on several other computers, and those DVD's that have movies on them, from the exact same stack of blank DVD's open up and play the movie perfectly, it's only the blank DVD's that are not being recognized...... This is really frusterating.....
The device is a SONY CDRWDVD CRX3102 SCSI CdRom Device it will recognize blank CD's but not BLANK DVD's..... I swear I've burnt DVD's using this drive before, but now it's not working.... am I crazy? or just stupid? What am I doing wrong.

I have two SATA burners installed with Vista x64, they burn fine but burst rate is only 14 mb/s when it was 60 mb/s on XP Pro
Does anyone know what driver I might have installed that I shouldn't have or need to install?

I have a compaq laptop - only had it a month! & have Vista Premium home edition. Things were great with it till last night - tried to burn an Audio CD using "Cyberlink Power2go" and error message "no burner available or you do not have access to the burner" appeared. Used this program before without any probs so thought it might be a problem with the disc, tried another got same message, so I stuck in an original DVD to see if it would read that OK.

I am not computer-wise. I have brand new HP laptop with Vista Home Premium. I am new to Vista. I burned two DVDs that will play on my computers, but not on any stand-alone player. Exploring the discs, I see they are lacking the folder AUDIO_TS, which I thought was mandatory even though empty. 1. Am I right to infer that this is the problem? 2. How do I fix it? (I believe the discs were burned with Windows DVD Maker product version 6.0.6000.16386). 3. If this is the wrong tack to pursue, what questions should I be asking?

I'm using Vista Home Premium and over the past year have burned approx 100 DVDs without any problems using Roxio and Windows. I started having problems with burns being successful till finally every time I tried to burn a DVD it failed and I wasted a blank. The DVD drive itself works fine so I reformatted Windows in an attempt to remedy what I thought was a software problem to no avail. Every time I attempt to burn a DVD, no matter which method I try, the burn fails.

My external DVD burning drive was working fine the other day as a matter of fact I had burned 3 DVD's but when I tried to burn the 4th one my computer still detected the burning drive but my burning program (ImgBurn) didn't detect the DVD media. Does this sound like maybe the laser went bad in the drive.

I've just bought an Optiarc AD-7170S Sata DVD burner. The problem is, it isn't recognized by Vista. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64. I have a Phenom 9550 Quad, 4 GB DDR2-800, and a Gigabte MA78GM-S2H motherboard. I've tried to download SATA/RAID controller drivers from the Gigabyte site, but Vista doesn't seem to be able to install them, or to properly download them for that matter. I've tried emulating IDE in my BIOS, but that failed too.

I have Diskeeper 2008 which does NOT work on large drives (over 1TB). The new Diskeeper does, but I don't want to pay their ridiculous prices again, now with add-ons. (yes, I have a lot of files on my Vista box) So, I need:
1. Vista compat.
2. Works with over 1TB
Is there ANYTHING good out there? Please don't tell me to use MS defragmenter.

Why does a VPN connection setup with an XP computer so easy and it fails when I try to set up the connection with a VISTA Ultimate computer. Since Microsoft knows the default settings within XP to create the VPN connections why not have MS make available the necessary changes to the default settings in VISTA in order to make this connection work from VISTA. Have had to add an XP box at the office for on connection. And more money for MS software.
