DVD-RW Drive: Windows Wouldn't Recognize Any Recordable Disks

May 14, 2009

I recently tried to burn a CD for the first time in a number of months. I'd always used Roxio software for burning with no real probs but this time I could not get the drive to recognize the CD-R disk. Decided to delete the Roxio software and use the built in Windows Vista burning program instead but kept getting same message asking me to insert a disk. Checked the DVD RW drive properties and found it was set up ok as a recordable drive. Decided that the drive must be kaput so I bought a new one. Installed that ok but still Windows wouldn't recognize any recordable disks of any form that I put in the drive. Installeed the Nero 8 software that came with the drive and still have the same problem using that!

My external DVD burning drive was working fine the other day as a matter of fact I had burned 3 DVD's but when I tried to burn the 4th one my computer still detected the burning drive but my burning program (ImgBurn) didn't detect the DVD media. DVD-RW Drive Will Not Recognize

Aug 12, 2009

How come this happens? I will be using Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium and it simply will not recognize any DVD that I put in the DVD drive. I hit restart and the same thing happens. Then I hit shut down and let it shut down and then restart it with the power button and the DVD-RW drive and any disc in it will be read perfectly. This seems odd and disconcerting.

Wont Recognize Hard Drive

Jul 18, 2009

The drive is properly installed and is recognized correctly in the bios screen at startup. vista hp boots up. I right-click on my computer> manage. The computer management utility opens up and the new drive is recognized in the device manager but when I click on disk management I get a pop-up saying "an internal error has occured.

Restart the Disk Management snap-in." I hit ok. the same message comes up three more times, then I geta message saying "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in" and requeststhat I shut down and restart MMC, which I do and it just does the same again. Thats as far as I get. But here's the thing: I've been getting that error message way before I even installed the drive but had forgotten about it til now.

CD DVD Drive Doesnt Recognize Maxell CD-R Discs

Nov 6, 2008

My OS is Vista Home Premium 32 bits. My cd/dvd drive is HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM LG GSA-H55N SCSI. I have one strange problem with my cd/dvd drive since a couple of days.

---My cd/dvd drive doesn't recognize Maxell CD-R discs and certain movie dvds and doesn't read any music cds (manufacturized albums). When I insert the disk, there's this message ''Insert the disk on Drive E:''. But it doesn't have any problems with other CD-R and DVD-R like Memorex and Sony. Last week, October 26, I played a DVD movies (like Broadway melody) without any problems. I tried to play it again today it gives me the ''insert the disc message''. Is it due to some Windows update? or anything?

Flash Drive: How Can Get Windows To Recognize This Device

Jan 25, 2008

I ordered a SanDisk 4.0 GB Cruzer Micro USB Flash Drive with my Vostro 400 computer running Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium Edition. When I inserted the Flash Drive in the USB port Windows asked me to install the driver for the device. There was no software included with the Flash Drive. I checked the box requesting Windows to look for a driver through the Windows Update feature. It came back and said no driver could be found for this device. I then went to the manufacturer's website but they don't have a driver listed for this particular Flash Drive. I called Dell and all they could tell me is that Windows should have recognized the device automatically. how I can get Windows to recognize this device. My brother has the same identical computer and Flash Drive and his installed without a problem

Drive Boot And Showing As "foreign" A 479mb Partition That I Don't Recognize

Mar 23, 2008

Somehow I managed to mess up my boot disk by converting it to dynamic. Now whenever I boot, I need to: This will now let that drive boot. I'm running Vista Ultimate with several SATA and USB drives attached - the boot drive is SATA. I also see a strange drive in disk manager (once it's booted) showing as "foreign" a 479mb partition that I don't recognize. I'm tempted to delete it, but won't until I know that it wouldn't hurt anything. Is there anything that I can do to avoid this process every time I reboot?

DVD Rom With Roxio Crashing

May 18, 2008

I have a Samsung DVD Rom which I have put into my new PC from my old one. It's only about 3 years old and worked fine in my old PC. Vista found the driver necessary and installed it. Worked fine. Last night I tried to use Roxio to copy a cd which ended up with Roxio crashing. I had to reboot. Once rebooted, Vista told me it was installing a device driver for a Semwung DVD-ROM$SD-616E$ATA device. This has left me scratching my head as to why my Samsung is now a Semwung! Any ideas? Also, I have noticed over the last couple of days that someone/thing keeps changing my homepage. I've run Spybot and my antivirus scanner and had 5 tracking cookies and have got rid of them. Is there any way I can find out what keeps changing my homepage? Once whatever it is tries to change my homepage and I try to use Explorer to surf the web, I get directed to a Norton page telling me something's tried to change my homepage but won't tell me what or what to. I don't think my current problems are connected in any way

How Do Record Songs In Roxio

Mar 29, 2008

On my old XP machine I could go into the "sound" option, select recording options and check the "stereo mix" box, then play a song in Windows Media Player and record in Roxio or another sound recording application. This was a useful way to convert song files from one format to another (for example, from wmf to mp3, or from some proprietary iTunes or Rhapsody format to mp3). This option isn't available on my new Gateway running Windows Vista. The new sound menu has "Recording options" and "Playback options". Under "Recording options" it only has Microphone, Aux and Line In. None of these work for recording from the computer. Is this a limitation of my machine, or of Vista? Is there a way around this problem? How do I record from the sound card in Vista?

Roxio Program Usage 100% Cpu Wokring

Jun 3, 2009

I have a Compaq Presario desk top computer, and my wife has basically the same computer as mine (also a Compaq Presario), but in lap top form. Hers is about a year newer than mine. My computer came with 1GB or RAM, and I installed another 1.5GB about a year ago (by replacing one of the two 512mb memory cards with a 2gb card), and now I have a total of 2.5GB of RAM. My computer model, according to Compaq, is expandable up to 4GB.

In the last month or so, I've got into using DVD ripping programs to abstract video from discs and into my computer. Using Roxio at first, a 25 minute television show was taking about three hours to complete, with a video file of only 578MB being produced. On this particular program, there is no settings to produce a smaller or larger file. I have to say that the DVD rips were coming out just as good as the DVD version when I played back the "wmv" file in my computer, so I was very pleased with that, at least.....

• Have been using it for some time and am used to its settings

Can Not CD Burner

Jan 24, 2009

I am using an audio editor called WaveLab Essential 6. When I create a CD Montage of songs and try to WRITE to CD, it opens up the WRITE CD dialogue box and shows my device as Optiarc DVD/RW AD-7580A. Everything seems fine until I choose to WRITE. At that point, it shows that the CD creation progress is 100% and says that the CD was created successfully. The elapsed time shows 5 seconds and Saved Data shows 52.12 MB (5'9'' of audio). The real problem here is that the CD is still blank and nothing was recorded on it. Can anyone recommend a solution to get this CD Burner to actually write? It works fine in Media Player. I am using Windows Vista, Intel Pentium Dual Core, 3 Gigs, the CD drive is listed above.

CD/DVD Burner Disappeared

Mar 23, 2008

I bought a new ASUS M51SN laptop last month running Windows Vista. I have subsequently loaded MS Office 2003, Skype, Norton SystemWorks and NERO8. I recently upgraded Vista with SP1, Nero, Skype and Norton to their latest versions and the ASUS Bios to 304. While I had a number of software problems prior to these upgrades, I placed my faith in the Vista upgrade, but am still left with a number of irritating problems.

My DVD burner has disappeared from Windows and Norton while Nero is still happy to test it (Diskspeed). The device manager says everything is good, but I cannot see the DVD in either Windows Explorer or My Computer. In the event log, I can see that the unit has encountered a number of bad block events, as well as a number of errors during a paging operation...............
