View 4 Replies View RelatedSo my cd/dvd drive doesn't show up on my computer. I have a dell inspiron 5315 desktop. I searched the forum here and found nothing that worked. I tried to uninstall it from my device manager but it would reinstall itself upon reboot, i tried to delete my upper and lower registries for the drive but I don't have lower registry for that. I also checked my autoplay settings but everything was fine there.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy C drive is filling up for some reason. I haven't installed anything new to it in a long time and have next to nothing downloaded on it. The drive is 70GB of which about 17 GB is stuff I've added. However, I apparently have used up 68 GB!! ANtivirus (AVG, Norton previous) hasn't detected anything.
It appears my C:Windows is 19 GB and another file, C:UsersMyname is using up another 16 GB. Can I reduce these, and how? Also, that leaves another 26GB completely unaccounted for! What's going on here?
Ok this is really starting to irritate me i am beginning to remeber why i always use ASUS boards! Anyway i am up and running but on a crappy 20G Maxtor b/c my BIOS won't recognize the SATA drive. I have the SATA controller enabled and i have tried all 4 connectors with no luck. Updated BIOS still no luck. Windows won't see it either. Tried installing the Nvidia drivers of the support disk did not think that work an well it didn't. Actually i'm sure it's the stupid Nvidia chipset but i updated it and still no SATA action.I have never seen a modern board that did not recognize SATA drives automatically i have tried 2 different drives a working Samsung and the new EXCELSTORE/Hitachi and in tandem as well.On a lighter note i already have her OC'ed at 2.5Mhz on a whole 512 MB of RAM........One of my sticks was DOA teach me not to buy RAM i am not familiar with.AMD Opteron 1212 Dual core/ASRock ALiveNF6G with a Nvidia 6100/nForce430 chipset.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung DVD Rom which I have put into my new PC from my old one. It's only about 3 years old and worked fine in my old PC. Vista found the driver necessary and installed it. Worked fine. Last night I tried to use Roxio to copy a cd which ended up with Roxio crashing. I had to reboot. Once rebooted, Vista told me it was installing a device driver for a Semwung DVD-ROM$SD-616E$ATA device. This has left me scratching my head as to why my Samsung is now a Semwung! Any ideas? Also, I have noticed over the last couple of days that someone/thing keeps changing my homepage. I've run Spybot and my antivirus scanner and had 5 tracking cookies and have got rid of them. Is there any way I can find out what keeps changing my homepage? Once whatever it is tries to change my homepage and I try to use Explorer to surf the web, I get directed to a Norton page telling me something's tried to change my homepage but won't tell me what or what to. I don't think my current problems are connected in any way
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Roxio Creator 9 (which works fine on my desktop XP machine) on my Vista Sp1 laptop and cannot use Cineplayer. After the flash screen shows for several seconds I get "Cineplayer has stopped working" and a second message asking to close the program. View 4 Replies View RelatedOn my old XP machine I could go into the "sound" option, select recording options and check the "stereo mix" box, then play a song in Windows Media Player and record in Roxio or another sound recording application. This was a useful way to convert song files from one format to another (for example, from wmf to mp3, or from some proprietary iTunes or Rhapsody format to mp3). This option isn't available on my new Gateway running Windows Vista. The new sound menu has "Recording options" and "Playback options". Under "Recording options" it only has Microphone, Aux and Line In. None of these work for recording from the computer. Is this a limitation of my machine, or of Vista? Is there a way around this problem? How do I record from the sound card in Vista?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario desk top computer, and my wife has basically the same computer as mine (also a Compaq Presario), but in lap top form. Hers is about a year newer than mine. My computer came with 1GB or RAM, and I installed another 1.5GB about a year ago (by replacing one of the two 512mb memory cards with a 2gb card), and now I have a total of 2.5GB of RAM. My computer model, according to Compaq, is expandable up to 4GB.
In the last month or so, I've got into using DVD ripping programs to abstract video from discs and into my computer. Using Roxio at first, a 25 minute television show was taking about three hours to complete, with a video file of only 578MB being produced. On this particular program, there is no settings to produce a smaller or larger file. I have to say that the DVD rips were coming out just as good as the DVD version when I played back the "wmv" file in my computer, so I was very pleased with that, at least.....
It appears that Roxio BackupMyPC files cannot work in Vista. Fine, so why do Roxio want the customer to purchase another version inorder to access previous software files? Are there any alternatives to open these files in Vista?:

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm putting together my new system which will be running Vx64 OS. I own both Nero 9 full and Roxio's Creator 20009 Ultimate and trying to make a decision. As far as I can tell both offer about the same burning / editing options and seems kind of silly to install both if I really only need one or the other.
Nero 9:
Pros-
• Have been using it for some time and am used to its settings
• Have bought all the plug-ins for it............
I have not been able to get my Roxio Easy Media Creator to work. When I click on any of the icons, it says that the 'certificate is invalid or corrupted' and wants me to reinstall it. Is there some way of repairing this short of a complete reinstall? I have the Roxio disk supplied by Dell and I was hoping to get away with not having to completely reinstall the program. I have no luck with that stuff.

View 6 Replies View Related(My laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 w/ Windows Vista Ultimate)Vista states that no battery was detected, yet i have one inserted. I've tried pulling it out and putting it back in, even the BIOS settings detect no battery. When I remove the power cable, it still runs off battery, but the battery light turns red. Also, I am trying to upgrade my BIOS and as a requirement, you must have your computer connected to the battery AND to the charger
View 5 Replies View RelatedPardon if I just sound really computer illiterate, but I've recently switched from Windows XP to Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit.. and can't connect to the internet. I've got an HP Firebird 802, even sent it back to the company only to be told they had no problems connecting. I plugged in the ethernet cable directly into our wireless modem/router, but it still tells me that the network cable is unplugged. I've turned on Network Discovery, and still nothing. Just a lovely red X over my network status. I have a Westell 327w wireless modem/router, and the other computers that are on it are running XP.

View 9 Replies View RelatedNow I've been having a weird issue with my ClearChat Comfort USB microphone and I've been asking both Logitech and Microsoft for support. So far, Logitech claims it's Microsoft's problem and Microsoft.... well anyway. I plug my microphone (Certified for Windows Vista) and nothing happens... I mean, there's nothing even in Device Manager. Now there are no drivers for this microphone and I haven't found any hotfix. I thought it was because of Vista 64x but I tried on my laptop using Vista 32 home edition and got the same issue. It worked well on my laptop before Vista Service Pack came out. Oh and yes, I have the latest version of all~ drivers

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just bought this new HP laptop several months and now its infected with malware Trojan. A full scan on Windows defender shows that trojan is detected in some of the .dll files. I deleted 2 files on which it said trojan was detected. But next time I scanned on Windows Defender, some other .dll file showed up. Also scan on Bell Sympatico's Anti virus service, it shows no virus or spywares. My laptop is very slow than before, and also internet explorer browsers keep opening and they take me to some random antivirus sites.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm a very capable user running a Dell E1505 here. The battery lasted less than a year, and then I replaced it with a brand new battery. This has been in there for at most a month now. The past two days I have had an interesting situation going on. The computer is running Vista Home Premium, and it's running on AC. The battery seems to be working fine. It's detected fine, the PC runs off of the battery, and it charges as well. It's not set to suspend, hibernate, or anything like that at any time; these features are all deactivated because I am never in a situation to use them.
However, for the past few days, I have closed the lid and then gone to sleep at night, but when I have opened it up the next morning, I have the red X icon that says the battery is not detected. I've unseated the battery and clicked it back in each time, and it is immediately recognized and operates completely normally as described above after that.
The first time that this happened, I thought it may just have been some odd thing as can happen now and then with computers, and I ignored it. I went through my day using the E1505 as usual: leaving it unattended for minutes or hours while doing other things, closing the lid before going to the store, opening the lid again, etc., and it worked fine. However, when I awoke this morning the X was there with the no battery message. I again unseated and reseated the battery, and all seems normal.
Just finished building my new workstation....1x 250GB SATA drive on wich I want to install Vista Ultimate x64. 3x 500GB SATA drive wich i'd like to have running in Raid-5.
Asus P5E motherboard.
My first take was this:
1) connect all HDD's
2) Install vista on 250GB drive, leave 500GB drives alone for now.
3) Update Vista.
4) Restart, enable RAID in BIOS.
5) Ctrl+I at startup, setup RAID-5 with the 3 500GB HDD's in RAIDmanager. So far so good..... RAID manager shows RAID-5 correctly and shows that 250GB drive isnon-raid.
6) Reset, problem: no startup *"No bootbable drives found"* In BIOS, it shows all drives under boot devices, and the 250GB drive asthe first boot disk. But before the 250GB name it sais RAID also, wich I guess it shouldnot.......
I use the Vista Firewall plus AVG Free 8.0 together with Firefox 3.5 Browser with Adblock. I also carry out a periodic manual scan using AdAware Anniversary Edition free.
Vista comes with Windows Defender, but in the 2 years I have had Vista, whenever I have scanned with it, it always reports 'no unwanted or harmful software detected - your computer is running normally!' Very reassuring or what? Does this mean everything else is doing a really good job or could it mean that Windows Defender is really not much use?
I just installed on my Sony Vaio VGN-FZ250FE (using Windows Vista), 2 x 2gb RAM memory modules equivalent to a total of 4 gb of RAM. My BIOS is detecting the whole 4gb, but under Windows's System App there are only 3gb detected.
