RAM Memory Modules Incorrectly Detected?

Apr 2, 2008

I just installed on my Sony Vaio VGN-FZ250FE (using Windows Vista), 2 x 2gb RAM memory modules equivalent to a total of 4 gb of RAM. My BIOS is detecting the whole 4gb, but under Windows's System App there are only 3gb detected.

Installed RAM Displayed Incorrectly?

Feb 20, 2008

I draw your attention to the image attached below which I have extracted from Lavalys Everest Ultimate Edition's Memory Benchmarking Test. As I only confess to having no more than an intermediate computer knowledge, could someone please answer my following query: Why in the image does it display my Memory Type as being Dual Channel DDR2-667 SDRAM (5-5-5-12) when what I have installed is Dual Channel DDR2-800 RAM (4-4-4-12)?

Disk Are Incorrectly Read Or Not Seen In 64 Ultra

Nov 10, 2008

Vista can't read manifactured DvD's and will not see Blank disks. I read through the MS kb article and it doesn't apply because in the registry UpperFilters and Lowerfilters are not listed. Tried using Nero but it is not compatable with Vista. (humph, imagine that) In Device mgr Dvd is listed as TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S202J ATA Device Driver is from 6/21/2006. Tried to update driver but will not says it is most up to date driver available. Uninstalled drive and reinstall did nothing to resolve problem.

The DVD drive is brand new and so is the PC and windows Vista Ultimate 64. Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7300 @2.66 Ghz, 4 gigs ram. Most of the time it can't even read any disk put in, no auto play nothing, Turned atuo play and turned it off no real difference. Often times in Windows Explorer after a few tries it may see files on the disk then I can use the setup if it's there and it will install program. Sometimes it will read home burned disk and it other times it fails to see the exact same disk. Often times it sees a manufactured disk as a blank disk and ask if I wanted to burn something.

Physical RAM Being Reported Incorrectly In Everest

Feb 24, 2009

I have 8GB RAM (4x2GB sticks), works fine to my knowledge, and shows up on the main screen, and in the BIOS as 8GB. Good stuff. However, recently in order to try and improve boot speeds I went into the pagefile and set it as 0 after reading that it isnt needed with this ammount of ram. After rebooting I went into msconfig's advanced boot screen, set the number of processors to 4 and MAX RAM... but it would only see 3GB RAM.

I installed Everest to check this out and it reports that my physical RAM is 3GB, task manager reports the same. What went wrong, and how can I get all 8GB showing? My GPU is a 1GB 9800 card so wouldnt have thought the rest was going towards gfx. Ive taken out some sticks and tried again but Everest still only sees GB, even with 8gb, 6gb or 4gb inside?

"Windows Modules Installer Has Stopped Working,"

Mar 23, 2008

I accidentally restarted my laptop in the middle of a Windows Update and now I get several messages when I boot up. These include "Windows Modules Installer has stopped working," and "Windows Run (.dll) has stopped working," as well as a few others that I cannot remember. The ill effects of my actions are manifest in the loss of wireless internet capabilities, a text bubble from the process icons on the taskbar that says there are multiple Windows Security Alerts, as well as one that says "Windows cannot detect any updates." When I open up the window to try to do a Windows Update, it says
that I have never downloaded an Update (and I have) and it also does not allow me to get an update.

Incorrectly Sees "Multiple Networks" Can't Connected

Mar 23, 2008

I have a wired router connected to a combination wired/wireless switch (both are LinkSys and pretty old). The PC in question has a wired connection to the switch. In the Network and Sharing Center, Vista sees two Networks: Network (private) and Unidentified Network (public), but both have the same IP information. Both also say local and internet access, but I cannot connect to the Internet. Disabling one of the active connections (one of the fixes suggested by Windows) causes all network connections to be disabled. I have tried resetting the router and switch, renewing the DHCP lease and resetting the network adapter to no avail. The most frustrating aspect of this problem is that it is intermittent. Sometimes, without apparent reason, the computer will "just work." There is another Vista PC also with a wired connection to the switch that has no trouble connecting to the internet and correctly sees only one network.

Exploring, Memory DiagnosticsIf Vista Detects A Memory

Feb 23, 2007

Memory DiagnosticsIf Vista detects a memory problem in your system such as a faulty RAM module, it will display a notification asking if you want Vista to try to diagnose the problem. Then again you may also recieve the sudden BSOD with the error MEMORY MANAGMENT at the top. You can manually run this tool anytime just typememory in the search box inside the start menu. This tool offers you two options: restarting immediately and checking for problems, or running next time you reboot your machine (the memory diagnostic tool must run at boot time).

Network DiagnosticsWindows Vista also allows you to check the connectivity of your network connection using the Network Diagnostics Framework: An infrastructure and a set of built-in and extensible components that attempts to automatically diagnose and correct network connectivity problems. The usual way to run this check is to open Network Center and click the Diagnose Internet Connection link on the left Vista will either identify ............

Total Memory Available 3.3GB With 4GB Physical Memory Under Windows 7 64 Bit

Nov 29, 2009

I had 4GB physical memoryon the PC. With Windows vista 32 bit, available memory is shown as 3.3GB. I asked and was told that only under 64 bit windows, will the available memory be 4GB. When I upgraded to windows 7, I chosed 64 bit, but the available memory shown in the system is still 3.3 GB. Why is this and is there a way to make the full 4GB available? It's possible that my video card is using RAM instead of its own RAM. If I install a video card with its own RAM, will the full 4GB be available?

Jul 3, 2008

I have a problem with Vista Ultimate x64 SP1, I always seem to lose all my free RAM within an hour regardless of system activity, even while idling. I have noticed an svchost.eve process runs each time I reboot which seems to bloat constantly although when I close it down it only frees up about 800MB, what's happening to the rest of my 8GB??? When I launch Task Manager it says I'm only using 10% Memory but free RAM sits at 0?!?!

No Network Detected

Jun 23, 2009

Pardon if I just sound really computer illiterate, but I've recently switched from Windows XP to Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit.. and can't connect to the internet. I've got an HP Firebird 802, even sent it back to the company only to be told they had no problems connecting. I plugged in the ethernet cable directly into our wireless modem/router, but it still tells me that the network cable is unplugged. I've turned on Network Discovery, and still nothing. Just a lovely red X over my network status. I have a Westell 327w wireless modem/router, and the other computers that are on it are running XP.

Out Of Memory And Needed To Free Up Memory?

Aug 23, 2008

I am fairly new to the forums, and VERY new to Vista x64. The machine is new, and I was trying out some apps and games, I was in Secondlife when I got an error messege saying I was out of memory and needed to free up memory. I shut down the app and restarted it. Runs but I watched Task manager and saw my free memory down to almost nothing after an hour or so. The cached seems very high.

I did alittle research and decided to set a second page file on my 1TB hard drive, (OS is on the other HHD's )( regulated by system for size ) I'm not really sure whats going on. Example of just task manager and this page openis attached. Again, any help would be great in getting the memory set up on here optimal.

ClearChat Comfort USB Not Detected

So far, Logitech claims it's Microsoft's problem and Microsoft.... well anyway. I plug my microphone (Certified for Windows Vista) and nothing happens... I mean, there's nothing even in Device Manager. Now there are no drivers for this microphone and I haven't found any hotfix. I thought it was because of Vista 64x but I tried on my laptop using Vista 32 home edition and got the same issue. It worked well on my laptop before Vista Service Pack came out. Oh and yes, I have the latest version of all~ drivers

C Drive Hasn't Detected Anything

Apr 4, 2010

My C drive is filling up for some reason. I haven't installed anything new to it in a long time and have next to nothing downloaded on it. The drive is 70GB of which about 17 GB is stuff I've added. However, I apparently have used up 68 GB!! ANtivirus (AVG, Norton previous) hasn't detected anything.

It appears my C:Windows is 19 GB and another file, C:UsersMyname is using up another 16 GB. Can I reduce these, and how? Also, that leaves another 26GB completely unaccounted for! What's going on here?

Battery Not Detected Intermittently

Feb 23, 2009

I'm a very capable user running a Dell E1505 here. The battery lasted less than a year, and then I replaced it with a brand new battery. This has been in there for at most a month now. The past two days I have had an interesting situation going on. The computer is running Vista Home Premium, and it's running on AC. The battery seems to be working fine. It's detected fine, the PC runs off of the battery, and it charges as well. It's not set to suspend, hibernate, or anything like that at any time; these features are all deactivated because I am never in a situation to use them.

However, for the past few days, I have closed the lid and then gone to sleep at night, but when I have opened it up the next morning, I have the red X icon that says the battery is not detected. I've unseated the battery and clicked it back in each time, and it is immediately recognized and operates completely normally as described above after that.

The first time that this happened, I thought it may just have been some odd thing as can happen now and then with computers, and I ignored it. I went through my day using the E1505 as usual: leaving it unattended for minutes or hours while doing other things, closing the lid before going to the store, opening the lid again, etc., and it worked fine. However, when I awoke this morning the X was there with the no battery message. I again unseated and reseated the battery, and all seems normal.

Can't Boot Disk Detected!

Mar 23, 2008

Just finished building my new workstation....1x 250GB SATA drive on wich I want to install Vista Ultimate x64. 3x 500GB SATA drive wich i'd like to have running in Raid-5.
Asus P5E motherboard.

My first take was this:
1) connect all HDD's
2) Install vista on 250GB drive, leave 500GB drives alone for now.
3) Update Vista.
4) Restart, enable RAID in BIOS.
5) Ctrl+I at startup, setup RAID-5 with the 3 500GB HDD's in RAIDmanager. So far so good..... RAID manager shows RAID-5 correctly and shows that 250GB drive isnon-raid.
6) Reset, problem: no startup *"No bootbable drives found"* In BIOS, it shows all drives under boot devices, and the 250GB drive asthe first boot disk. But before the 250GB name it sais RAID also, wich I guess it shouldnot.......

Is Windows Defender Working :: Always Nothing Detected?

Sep 11, 2009

I use the Vista Firewall plus AVG Free 8.0 together with Firefox 3.5 Browser with Adblock. I also carry out a periodic manual scan using AdAware Anniversary Edition free.

Vista comes with Windows Defender, but in the 2 years I have had Vista, whenever I have scanned with it, it always reports 'no unwanted or harmful software detected - your computer is running normally!' Very reassuring or what? Does this mean everything else is doing a really good job or could it mean that Windows Defender is really not much use?

Canon HDV XH G1 Being Detected But Not Capturing On 64 Ultimate

It worked extremely well in Windows XP Home. I emailed Canon and they said that right now there is no support for 64 bit Vista with the camera. However, I have 4 GB of RAM and 2GB of Turbo Memory and I wouldn't want it to go to waste.

Is there any way I can email Microsoft (without having to pay $35 dollars) to suggest support for these products or if I were to install Vista Ultimate 32bit, would I lose my ability to use 4GB of RAM and the 2GB of Turbo Memory? How about if I dual boot it, would there be any complications? Can I use the same CD KEY as neither OS would be on at the same time?
