Attempting to delete a legitimate contact in Windows Mail causes Windows Explorer to stop working, after which it then shuts down. The contact is not deleted. Why can't I simply delete a duplicate contact in Windows Mail without having the environment shut down? Does something have to be set in Options first for this to happen?
View 5 RepliesI'm very disappointed that windows mail doesn't support folders in the contact area. I hope some one from Microsoft see this and they reconsider putting a update to re add this feature. I just got this computer and already I want to send it back. I really need folders to keep my contacts sorted. Either add the option or let me download the old Outlook to install. And buying Office outlook is not a option.

Usually I get two copies, on rare occasions three or four, and last weekend I got more than 30 copies of a single email. I have already turned off the anti-spam feature of my anti-virus program. Is there any way to change the settings so I get only one copy of each email? I am running Vista Home Premium, 32 bit, with 3GB of memory on Dual CPU E2180 @ 2 GHz.

At first I manaually delete the dupliates in window mail, It costed me a lot of time and only delete little parts of duplicates. Now I find in window explorer, these are files for the mails. I think I might use a tool to remove duplicate files in 'window mail' folder on window explorer.Is it sage to do so.

Problem is there is no "New Contact Group" item on my Vista Mail toolbar when using the Windows explorer. When I click on them they say they are invalid. Any way to get these to work? Also they copied my Windows mail contacts... how do I get these into the mail program. a) When she opens her Contact list , the names are in alphabetical order (which is expected) .However when she composes an email and clicks on the "To" button , the name list displayed is not in alphabetical order by name but strangely ordered by email addresses. Is there a way to rearrange to resort by names?
b) When she types a name in the Address area ie in the box next to "To" , another page opens for search. Is this normal ? With Outlook ( which she used to use until she changed to a new computer running Vista) when you type the name a list of potential email addresses appear. IS there a way to fix this?
In Windows Mail I have several large contact groups allowing me to send a message to everyone in each group. Occasionally I need to send an e-mail to a contact group but I need to eliminate or delete a contact name from the group, but I don't want to modify the group every time I have to do this. I'd like there to be a way to send the message to a contact group, but somehow display the members of the contact group inside the `To' window, then select one or more and delete them.

They like that it grabs contacts for them, the problem is that it duplicates them relentlessly: say Fred emails you often you get a Fred contact a (1) Fred, a (2) Fred, etc... For the life of me I can't find were to fix this, the knowledge base offers me the right choices but finds no documents. Does anybody have this problem? I can easily download Thunderbird for them but I'm trying to keep these laptops as simple as possible.

In the good old Outlook Express Address Book, I could open a Contact and in the "Other" tab, I could see a list of all the Groups that the person belongs to. In Windows Mail Contacts. I successfully imported all my Contacts and Groups. But is there a way to find out which Groups a person belongs to? It's too time consuming to manually search through each of my 20 groups. The Help section claims that Windows Mail has all the features of Outlook Express. but the list of Groups a person belongs to is obviously
missing. show me that I can display a list of Groups for each person. I rely heavily on Groups. Just for example, if I have multiple entries for the same person (with different email addresses), I can tell which one is the most current by looking at which email address is part of a recently set up Group.
For the last couple of weeks when I receive mail with attached pdf files, if I try to move or delete the mail Windows Mail hangs. Sometime it recovers but otherwise I need to kill it. I can open the attachment by clicking on the paper clip etc and everything seems fine so I don't think it's a security thing.

I'm using Windows Mail for my emails. When I exit the program, all the messages in the Delete Folder are permanently deleted. Under earlier versions you had the option of keeping messages in the delete folder when existing. I can't find that option in the current version of Windows Mail.
