My harddrive had to be replaced. The Geek Squad did it. I paid $99. for them to copy all my data. The disk they gave me contains all my Internet favorites. When I click on them they say they are invalid. Any way to get these to work? Also they copied my Windows mail contacts... how do I get these into the mail program. What a job this is, getting things back to normal.
View 8 RepliesI'm very disappointed that windows mail doesn't support folders in the contact area. I hope some one from Microsoft see this and they reconsider putting a update to re add this feature. I just got this computer and already I want to send it back. I really need folders to keep my contacts sorted. Either add the option or let me download the old Outlook to install. And buying Office outlook is not a option.

I would like to be able to have (2) separate folders with the ability to import addresses to each and be able to switch back and forth.
I have a Windows Live Mail account and a Yahoo account and they both show up on the left hand side of my Window Live Mail account so I can choose which account I want to use or, for example, which inbox to look in. At the bottom, also on the left hand side of my Windows Live Mail account, it shows 'Add e-mail account', which is what I want to do with a new 'AOL' account and I want it to show on the left hand side like the two other accounts.
So I made a new AOL e-mail account, clicked 'Add e-mail account' at the bottom of my 'Windows Live Account', then I put in my new AOL e-mail account and password where it showed me. Then I clicked next.
The next page was all about my email server. When I did this before with a new e-mail account, it was all filled out automatically for me, but this time, all the blanks were left open and I have no idea what to fill in. I believe once I have this information, the AOL e-mail account will automatically then show on the left hand pane of my Windows Live Mail account below the other two accounts.
Can contacts be listed in the windows mail window as it was in outlook express?

However, when I try to select recipients the total contact list appears. Is there a way to just bring up the contact folder I need when creating emails?

Problem is there is no "New Contact Group" item on my Vista Mail toolbar when using the Windows explorer. Despite looking through all the discussion group replies, and going to the suggested tutorial, I STILL can not get the 'New Contact Group' button to appear.

a) When she opens her Contact list , the names are in alphabetical order (which is expected) .However when she composes an email and clicks on the "To" button , the name list displayed is not in alphabetical order by name but strangely ordered by email addresses. Is there a way to rearrange to resort by names?
b) When she types a name in the Address area ie in the box next to "To" , another page opens for search. Is this normal ? With Outlook ( which she used to use until she changed to a new computer running Vista) when you type the name a list of potential email addresses appear. IS there a way to fix this?
Up until yesterday lunchtime my email inbox on Windows Mail (I have Vista) showed my old emails as well as my new mails. then suddenly all my old emails disappeared and I can only see new emails from yesterday lunchtime! my emails have vanished - how do I get them back? I use AOL - when I check my AOL via webmail i can still see the old emails so know they exist. so why have they disappeard from Windows Mail?
I have several folders set up on my AOL Windows Mail accont so don't want to have to set up a new windows mail account as I will lose allmy folders. And my account settings are set to "view all mail". even wehn I press "send & receive" none of my old inbox emails are being shown up.
Desktop with Vista Home Premium 32-bit, 3MB RAM, dual HDs-RAID 1. Laptop with Vista Ultimate 64-bit, 4MB RAM. dual HDs, no RAID. LAN is based on Dlink DIR-655 giga-switch and draft-N wireless router. Both PCs have giga NICs. I treat the desktop as "Home Base." When I travel, I copy (manual drag-and-drop) my personal data to the laptop across the network. If I make changes while on the road, I copy teh data back to the desktop. I keep my personal data lots of folders in the Public Folder on each PC.
No problems until now, I have much more data on the desktop. One folder is 66GB. Within that folder I have sub folders of 16GB and 28GB. 65GB folder will not copy to the laptop. Copy message says "calculating" then disappears and nothing has been copied. I cannot copy the 16GB folder to another folder on the same HD. Why not? Is there an upper limit on size of folders/files that can be copied?
I've copied and pasted into my email many times. Now when I attempt this, the whole email program shuts down. I can copy and paste from another email in the program, but if I try to from a text doc or Word doc etc. the email program shuts down and I lose everything that was in the particular email I was writing.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows Mail's export only works to the local hard drive (heaven knows why). vereything works fine up to that point. Then the last step - copying the export from the hard drive to a removable medium fails. Eg I put the export into a folder on the desktop, but it won't copy to a USB flash stick: it gets started and then hangs - suddenly saying it will take 20+ hours to complete. There is no conceivable space issue. How can I do this last step, which is the key step? Have MS put in a spoiler?

On Vista, when I try to copy default.nk2 to the MicrosoftOutlook folder in Application Data, I'm denied access even though I have an administrator account. This makes it kind'a tough to support my users who've moved to Vista for various and sundry reasons. I can import the .PST files but I can't restore the .NK2 files. This doesn't make a heckuva lotta sense to me.

In the good old Outlook Express Address Book, I could open a Contact and in the "Other" tab, I could see a list of all the Groups that the person belongs to. In Windows Mail Contacts. I successfully imported all my Contacts and Groups. But is there a way to find out which Groups a person belongs to? It's too time consuming to manually search through each of my 20 groups. The Help section claims that Windows Mail has all the features of Outlook Express. but the list of Groups a person belongs to is obviously
missing. show me that I can display a list of Groups for each person. I rely heavily on Groups. Just for example, if I have multiple entries for the same person (with different email addresses), I can tell which one is the most current by looking at which email address is part of a recently set up Group.
