Windows Mail To Yahoo Plus POP3 Account For First Time
Mar 23, 2008Cannot get Windows mail to connect to my Yahoo POP3 server. Contacted Yahoo and we installed telnet and successfully connected to the servers through there. Old computer had Outlook express connected to the same account and I had no problems. Have checked the setting numerous times to insure they are correct. Have tried different port 's and different configurations - get different error messages but still no luck. Have checked all the firewalls (only have one on) and it has been configured to let Windows Mail have full access.
Here are the error messages associated w/ each port used. The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'yahoo', Server: 'plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Mar 23, 2008I'm trying to set up a new email account on a new laptop. I've got my own email account on my own PC but want to set up a separate account for my wife on the laptop. So far as I am aware I've followed all the printed instructions but still can't get the account to work. Step by step this is what I've done:
1 clicked Tools>Accounts>Add
2 (a) on the Properties>General Page I've typed my wife's name in Mail Account
(b) in User Information I've put her name
(c) in Email Adress I've put her name xxxxxxxxxx@btinternet.com
(d) ticked 'Include this account when receiving mail or synchronising'3 on the Servers Page:
(a) Incoming Mail POP3 I've entered mail.btinternet.com
(b) Outgoing Mail SMTP I've entered mail.btinternet.com
(c) in Email User Name I've entered my wife's name (not the email address)
(d) when I try to enter a password the space is grayed out..............

May 5, 2009I'm trying to set up an account but when it gets to the POP3 & SMTP I'm not quite sure what to enter there. It's very hard for me to send out attachments or just general mail unless I have it. I'm using Windows Vista and I do have an hotmail email account. Aug 24, 2009I have a Windows Live Mail account and a Yahoo account and they both show up on the left hand side of my Window Live Mail account so I can choose which account I want to use or, for example, which inbox to look in. At the bottom, also on the left hand side of my Windows Live Mail account, it shows 'Add e-mail account', which is what I want to do with a new 'AOL' account and I want it to show on the left hand side like the two other accounts.
So I made a new AOL e-mail account, clicked 'Add e-mail account' at the bottom of my 'Windows Live Account', then I put in my new AOL e-mail account and password where it showed me. Then I clicked next.
The next page was all about my email server. When I did this before with a new e-mail account, it was all filled out automatically for me, but this time, all the blanks were left open and I have no idea what to fill in. I believe once I have this information, the AOL e-mail account will automatically then show on the left hand pane of my Windows Live Mail account below the other two accounts.

Aug 28, 2008To anyone having the same problem sending with Yahoo here is my solution.
Choose Tools then Accounts, highlight your account that you are having problems with, click Properties, then under the Security tab change the Algoritham setting to DES, click apply then exit tools.
Now send an E-Mail and it works.
The above setting will revert back to its original one but you can still send mails, whereas before you couldnīt.
Must have been a gltch in Windows Mail.
Dont forget incoming port (pop3) 995, outgoing port (smtp) 465.
