My habit is i have to inspect the files' date deleted in recycle bin before i permanently erase them. Each time, i need to change the right pane View from Tiles to Details, and Vista NEVER remember this action like XP.
I have a habit to see the date of delete of the files in recycle bin before i permanently erase them. Each time i open the recycle bin folder, the right pane view is always in Tiles mode, even i have changed it to Details mode. Vista has totally no memory about this. That is not something very difficult but i do not know why xp can do it, but vista cant !
I want to be able to keep the search pane in 'My Documents' or other folders in view all the time instead of having to keep going to 'Layout' and selecting it each time I want to use it.
I don't know how I got this from the navigation pane that I was used to which had lots more folders which I did use to drag and drop files from the main window to either of these folders.
I have Vista Business. The problem is that the screen resolution resets itself after a restart. When it comes up, the resolution is 1400x1050, which makes the font tiny. I reset to 1024x768, apply it, and things are fine until the next day when the computer is restarted.
Can anyone tell me if I can change the templates used to display folders in Vista.
I've searched the forums and discovered plenty of tutorials about the problem of Vista remembering the template used and how to change which template is used.
But that is not what I want. I actually want to change the template itself (In an ideal world I'd like to create new templates), but at the minimum I'd like to change what the existing templates show.
For example, I have a number of Sound FX files and for those, I'd like the template to show the length of the clip. Similarly, I do not use Ratings, and have no use for them or Genres or track numbers, but I would like file size. For Images, I again never use Ratings, or tags (I use Adobe Lightroom to catalog my images as I have thousands) but I would like to see file type and modification date!
My Windows Explorer has had the most annoying set of attributes, ever since I got Vista and I can't find a way to change them. When I open a folder, the files always want to default to a large icon view with a preview screen. I change them by customizing the folder and they sometimes change back. Some folders aren't customizable at all. Every folder is defaulted to be a pictures folder, but I want all folders to be just files.
If I want a pictures folder, of which I only have a few, I should be able to set only those folders as pictures. The windows folders don't need a Rating column or a Date Taken column. I want the details. My C: drive and Windows folder views are unchangeable other than manually setting the columns on and off. Then they change right back. Where can I change the default view of all folders?
Just wondering if there is a fix for this. I have aero on but when I go to the " windows color and appearence " then click on " Open classic appearence properties for more color options " . I click on Windows Aero and the view doesn't change it shows the windows basic view not the aero view.
Just recently the file names on all of my pictures have disappeared. Can't find anything in "view" to change them. Not looking for the file extensions, just the names that I gave to all the files.
When I resize a Window and change the view style, that Vista Home Premium actually keep those settings and does not keep changing the Window position and view every time I reopen the window and after a reboot as well. It is actually starting to drive me mad with frustration.....
i was installing the Windows Mobile Device Center and i discover that my computer window change his View to Extended Tiles before that it was just Tiles and i was able to see free disk space meter and other things. now when its changed to Extended Tiles i cannot see anything moreover the icons of the drives! also every icon the a whole line! i tried to change it back to Tiles with no success.
when I first started with Vista, Photo Gallery would show only the photo i clicked on. Now when i click on any photo it shows all the photos i created since I was born. how to change the view back to only showing one photo?
Under the path > WM > View > Text Size, I can select four (4) different sizes from its default setting "Medium". Now, that works "just fine"...but ONLY while a session of WM remains active! Indeed, as soon as WM is being shut down and relaunched, this previously altered setting (eg. to "Larger") will have reverted back to its initial default (ie. in my case it's "Medium")! So can someone kindly advise me now how I could alter this specific setting to...permanent?
I'm not sure what I have done but the left hand pane in which shows the list of folders (inbox, sent, deleted etc) in windows mail has completely disappeared.
I have tried rebooting, I have tried going into layout and making sure the folder list is checked but it will just not come back. They folders are still there as I can get to them through the folder bar option. If I uncheck the folders list box the folder bar shows a drop done menu with the folders.
When I launch MY Computer, the navigation pane on the left "USED TO" display a Favorites List. It has now disappeared! When I right click on the pane and select, "Restore Default Favorite Links" nothing happens. Also, when I try to drag and drop and "create shortcut here" nothing happens. The pane is listed as EMPTY. The My Favorite Links folder is still on my C: drive with all my favorite shortcuts in it.... Has anyone else run into this little Vista annoyance and found a solution?
When I open a file folder and it has other folders in it--I want to see the folder tree in a navigation window but none of the help choices tell me how to do this
I have 2 Hard Drives - 1 for OS the other for Data. Since all my data is on disk D I wanted to change the Documents, Music, and Pictires links on the rhs of the start pane to point to the new location. i did that OK by using properties, move location.however I stuffed it up by changing where "Videos" points. "videos is a link under the users on c:. Anyway, I sent it to the wrong place. When I tried to fix it my documents, pictures and music links were all lost. Somehow i've managed to re-establish the Documents link to point to the correct place (on the Data HDD) but I can't change Music or Pictures. They are just empty and do nothing. If I point to them and right click and select properties there is no "Location" tab, and in fact there is nothing at all.The links are OK in "Favourite Links" when Computer window is open, but they are dead on my start panel right hand side. All the other items in that panel are OK. How can I reset those links to point where I want.
How do I adjust the overlap from 0" to about 1 text line, when the spacebar is used for the pg/dn function? Its quite annoying having to adjust the pane each time, when only 1/2 a line of text becomes visible at the top end.
When I open any one of my folders is there a way to NOT have the contents of the first e-mail listed displayed in the Preview Pane automatically? I know that if I click to the far right of the e-mail list the Preview Pane will be empty and a message will show that says "There is no message selected." Ultimately this is what I would like to see when I open any of my folders.
I'm looking to put shortcuts to each of my primary hard drives in the circled pane. I'm pretty sure it's possible and all I have to do is modify a system file or some ****, but where would I go about doing such a thing?
Above picture isn't mine, due to my print screen not working, but I have near all of the right panes contents off (via Start Menu Properties), thus why I'm wanting to put my own custom shortcuts there.
The folder list is no longer displayed in the left hand pane in Windows Mail (apart from Local folders, Inbox and Newsgroups). In order to navigate to my other folders, I have to click on Local Folders, when they are displayed in the message pane. I can then open any folder but cannot transfer files to the folder from the inbox.
Is there any way to stop the navigation pane from shifting left/right when opening/closing folders. It is VERY annoying. On a positive note, I have found several fixes for problems in these forums.

I was wondering if you know if there is a way to improve Vista's Video Preview on the Details Pane.
The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.
Earlier I was told with preview pane viewing on you could receive a virus or whatever, without acually opening the mail message. Is this still the case?
I only use Windows Mail to handle my MS newsgroups (it does an excellent job of this). I have now subscribed to 10 newsgroups, and am finding it harder to find the few I usually go to, compared to the ones that I only go to once or twice, whenever I have a rare question. Is there a way I can manually change the order in which they appear (in the left pane--I see "Local Folders" and "Microsoft Communities" as the two major sections)? It looks like Windows Main arranges them in alphabetical order. Is there any way I can drag-n-drop, or change them in any other way?
I do not have a folder pane (a folder tree with the Desktop, my Computer, the Network) in Explorer any more. This is a rather annoiing and difficult problem, and have searched several times for hour with NO solution for Vista. I do not know exactly when this started, since I'm not normally using Windows Explorer that much. Now when I open the Explorer, the place where the Folder pane should be is totally blank, as seen below. (My Layout is set to "Navigation Pane")
I can see contents of folders in the Right pane and navigate through them, but can't see any folder hierarchy in the Left Folder-pane -- it's just totally blank as shown above. Does anyone have a solution? I'd rather not re-install Vista...PS: The problem seemed to exists in W9x and ME too Windows Explorer-Left Pane Empty - Tech Support Guy Forums and has a fix from MS, to delete a part of the registry, but this does not work for Vista.PS: I've read Brink's information on resetting Folder View settings and tried this to..
In the right hand pane of Windows Explorer I am now getting "summary" descriptions in the right side pane. For example, when I am looking at the Desktop, it has gathered the files as "A - H" and "I - P", etc. I am using "classic Windows" folders. How can I shut off the summary/group description?
