i was installing the Windows Mobile Device Center and i discover that my computer window change his View to Extended Tiles before that it was just Tiles and i was able to see free disk space meter and other things. now when its changed to Extended Tiles i cannot see anything moreover the icons of the drives! also every icon the a whole line! i tried to change it back to Tiles with no success.

View 3 Replies View RelatedVista and Office 2003, I have 4 accounts on this computer that all connect to the same email account in Windows Mail. Everything was fine but now when I log onto one of the Windows accounts and go to Windows Mail I can't download or view attachements. When I try to download them it says I don't have enough disk space (90Gigs free) and the .pps icons aren't even the same as they are when I open that same email account with the other Windows accounts. Seems to be some sort of file association mix up or something. but I cant even download them which is weird? I hope I didn't make this too complicated and I hope to hear from someone soon!

I've searched the forums and discovered plenty of tutorials about the problem of Vista remembering the template used and how to change which template is used.
But that is not what I want. I actually want to change the template itself (In an ideal world I'd like to create new templates), but at the minimum I'd like to change what the existing templates show.
For example, I have a number of Sound FX files and for those, I'd like the template to show the length of the clip. Similarly, I do not use Ratings, and have no use for them or Genres or track numbers, but I would like file size. For Images, I again never use Ratings, or tags (I use Adobe Lightroom to catalog my images as I have thousands) but I would like to see file type and modification date!
My Windows Explorer has had the most annoying set of attributes, ever since I got Vista and I can't find a way to change them. When I open a folder, the files always want to default to a large icon view with a preview screen. I change them by customizing the folder and they sometimes change back. Some folders aren't customizable at all. Every folder is defaulted to be a pictures folder, but I want all folders to be just files.
If I want a pictures folder, of which I only have a few, I should be able to set only those folders as pictures. The windows folders don't need a Rating column or a Date Taken column. I want the details. My C: drive and Windows folder views are unchangeable other than manually setting the columns on and off. Then they change right back. Where can I change the default view of all folders?
Just wondering if there is a fix for this. I have aero on but when I go to the " windows color and appearence " then click on " Open classic appearence properties for more color options " . I click on Windows Aero and the view doesn't change it shows the windows basic view not the aero view.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got an Acer 6292 laptop and I'm running Windows Vista (Service Pack 1 just installed), and for some reason RDC doesn't seem to work. I can establish a VPN connection OK but when I try to connect to my work computer using RDC I get a "Windows Security" box saying 'Looking for credential tiles...'. Then it just seems to keep searching and the next input box never shows up. Interestingly after I cancel RDC the application stalls but I don't get a "No response" error - it just hangs and nothing can be input in that window. I have to go into Task Manager to manually End Task.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the extended disk clean up shortcut, right clicked, ran as administrator, had all checked except for setup log files as strongly suggested, clicked ok, it said it was calculating the space I would regain by cleaning, it went straight to cleaning without showing the amounts in each checked section, and finished. I ran the utility to see about the error bug in reporting the size of the amounts as discribed and wanted to see if I had this bug to worry about. Why didnt the disk cleaning utility show me the amounts found in the locations and ask me if I wanted to go ahead and delete all the files? anyone?

I am trying to import my Outlook Contacts into the Vista Contacts folder. Many of the Outlook Contacts have extended characters, e.g. ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, etc. The CSV file that I created from Outlook correctly displays the accented letters and the Spanish "?" but when I import the contacts into Vista Contacts, they display as gibberish.
Importing a vCard works but I have hundreds of contacts and I haven't been able to save all of them as a single file. Saving and importing them one at a time would take hours. How does one import contacts with Spanish and French names?
I have been using a second monitor (Acer AL2216W) with my Vista Home Premium 64bit laptop as an extended desktop and all worked fine until yesterday. Now the 2nd monitor display is offset to the left, and I can't seem to find any setting that will correct it. Basically about 1.5" of blank space on the right side of the 2nd monitor that is unusable it acts as though it has reached the edge of the display.

I seem to remember using Vista Disk Management before to delete a logical volume but it wouldn't allow me to delete the Extended Partition? Can anyone confirm that is the case and if so recommend something they've used successfully to delete Extended Partitions under Vista.

I have Acer aspire 5310 basic vista with broken screen and I can't extended to the 2 monitor because is not exist in display setting. Now, that works "just fine"...but ONLY while a session of WM remains active! Indeed, as soon as WM is being shut down and relaunched, this previously altered setting (eg. to "Larger") will have reverted back to its initial default (ie. in my case it's "Medium")! So can someone kindly advise me now how I could alter this specific setting to...permanent?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Vista Ultimate laptop connected to two monitors. I can extend my desktop to the second monitor just fine. But when I come back from a meeting, and my screen saver has been on, my desktop is no longer extended. Both monitors show the display for monitor 1.
The setting is still correct under Display settings and I can fix the issue by changing Monitor 2 to be the main monitor and then switching it back to Monitor 1 being the main monitor.
No sound: it's just not working, and whenever I try to change the volume from the taskbar, a window pops up saying "Volume Control Applet is not responding". Also when I right-click on the sound icon and go to 'playback devices' and then go to the recording tab, it freezes (the window) and says "Windows Shell Common dll is not responding. (I don't know if this is related but my iTunes isn't working, I double-click to listen but the little time bar at the top doesn't move at all, but the window does not freeze)

Why is the Explorer window showing different filenames than the command line window? View 5 Replies View RelatedInstalled SP1 late last week and I'm quite unhappy with it. Stupid SP turned all the start up items and proccesses on, that I'd spent weeks filtering through and turning off. I've turned off pretty much everything, yet my computer takes about twice as long to boot up as before. I HATE that stupid icon they've used to replace the hourglass, because it's ALWAYS there.
In addition, the newest oddity is only the 1st person to login can get their hotmail without a reboot. If I login under my username and get hotmail, then my wife switches user and tries to get her hotmail she can login, but can't view her inbox. The opposite is true if she logs in first and I switch user. Who knows what else this SP screwed up but I haven't found yet. Anybody else have this issue and figure out a fix?
