Extended Desktop To Multiple Monitors When Screen Saver

I have a Vista Ultimate laptop connected to two monitors. I can extend my desktop to the second monitor just fine. But when I come back from a meeting, and my screen saver has been on, my desktop is no longer extended. Both monitors show the display for monitor 1.
The setting is still correct under Display settings and I can fix the issue by changing Monitor 2 to be the main monitor and then switching it back to Monitor 1 being the main monitor.

I have a Samsung LCD 720P HDTV 32" that I have been using as a secondary monitor. I just bought a new computer (HP Elite M9060N) with vista on it and a Geforce 8500GTS NVIDIA card (factory installed). When I try to extend my desktop onto my tv (using Dualview) it doesn't fill the entire screen. It leaves a black ring around the outside. I've tried adjusting the resolution, but it doesn't work. In addition to the ring, the resolution on the tv looks horrible. I have the refresh rate maxed out and tried flip flopping which monitor is my primary but just can't seem to get it to work. I'm also using a Samsung LCD 20" monitor and connecting my extra monitor with an HDMI cable.........

The other day i was sitting next to my mate who was making notes on his MacBook. The cool thing i saw on that Mac was that, when not in use for a few seconds, the screen saver or the power saver doesn't appear, but first the brightness of the screen got to its minimum and then the screen went into power saver mode.
Is there a way to make my Vista do that as well? So instead of a screen saver, it would just turn the brightness to its lowest point and after a few minutes, it would go completely dark to save energy?

I have recently purchased a new quad-core, Vista PC with dual NVidia cards. I am trying to set up multiple monitors, but the second monitor does not seem to be recognized - although the display under control panel sees two monitors. When I connect everything and reboot, the second monitor stays in power save mode. I am guessing that the PC is not really "seeing" the second monitor and the two in the display is a mirror, but am unsure on how to verify this. Is there a way to force it to detect the new hardware? Windows Vista helps and support says it should auto-detect, but if it does not, I cannot find a work around to force it to see this new monitor.

I am a multi-monitor Windows Vista user ever since I got hooked on multiple monitor at work. Two monitors make doing multiple tasks at one so much easier. If I am working on an article or trying to be creative in Photoshop, everything is just much easier because I always have multiple applications open at once. One feature that I wish I had as soon as I purchased my two monitors and hooked them up was the ability to stretch my wallpaper across both monitors. I wanted to use a very large and wide photo as my background that would like cool displayed across both monitors. Something like the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco or a cityscape. After installing and uninstalling Ultra Mon, a third-party shareware utility that I heard is great for multi-monitors, I wanted a easier solution and not something that I had to run in the background. I don't fully understand the use of an extended desktop - when I extend my desktop on the external monitor all I get is the background picture from my desktop...can i get anything else on this, am I just being simple? (mirrored monitors works fine)

I have been using a second monitor (Acer AL2216W) with my Vista Home Premium 64bit laptop as an extended desktop and all worked fine until yesterday. Now the 2nd monitor display is offset to the left, and I can't seem to find any setting that will correct it. Basically about 1.5" of blank space on the right side of the 2nd monitor that is unusable it acts as though it has reached the edge of the display.

I know this is a Vista news group but I haven't been able to find a Windows 7 group so maybe one of you guys can answer my question. I have the power settings to never put computer or screen to sleep and there is no screen saver setup. When I leave my computer alone for awhile the screen goes black. This never happened with Vista when setup this way why is Windows 7 doing this?

I am having a very wierd issue with vista's screen saver. So basically when I leave the comp idle it goes into screen saver then turns off the monitor after 15 mins. Sometimes, more often than not, I come back and move the mouse and hit a few keys on the keyboard and nothing. The monitor wont come out of standby I try turning it off and back on, and nothing. I have the latest drivers for everything in my system and I checked the power management settings and they both are able to wake the computer up. I have a G15 keyboard and I keep the leds on and when this happens the leds are off and the lazer for the mouse is off too.

My Windows Vista Home Premium continuously freezes after a short period of not using it. It can vary from 30 minutes to an hour or two. I do not have screen savers and turning off monitors or hard disks on. I've checked a couple of the forum threads here(Windows freezes in idle time).

I use my pictures as a screen saver, but it won't ever turn off, I don't want it to sleep because it takes to long to boot up again, any other suggestions? I have Vista. I didn't have this problem with windows xp. I want into preferences and just told it when to stop the screen saver.

For the life of my, I can't get my Twingly Screensaver to work on my computer (Vista 64x), it doesn't appear in the screensaver list. Also, when it installs, even when I select Windows/System32 it doesn't install there and goes to the 64 folder. I seem to be having some trouble with my screen saver. I have the picture viewer as my preferred screen saver but it doesn't seem to work at all. The preview image shows that I should be seeing something, but when I click the "preview" button, the screen goes black and doesn't cycle through anything. It is as though the screen saver is activated, but not cycling. All other screen savers work except the picture viewer. I use a nvidia 9300 GE, which I just updated the drivers for about 2 days ago.

When any screensaver kicks in, it is transparent, meaning that I see through it to the desktop, which is still up. How do I make the desktop disappear when the screensaver turns on? As an example, when I turn on the Bubbles screensaver, bubbles bounce around on the screen OVER the desktop, not in place of it.

I Installed software & conected Mouse transmiter to computer which has vista on it and the screen saver won't work pull the transmiter out and the screen saver works. Has anyone had this problem if so did you get it fixed.

The screen saver is not working, when we go to the screen saver setting - there is a message - "The screen saver can't run because it requires a newer video card or which require Direct 3D" But it was working a day ago.

Can anyone explain why Windows periodically freezes when the screen saver is running? At first I thought it was due to the Windows Live Photo Gallery. After running for several hours (overnight, for e.g.), it would freeze on one picture. Usually moving the mouse would eventually close the screen saver and I'd return to the desktop.
I then changed to a regular screen saver, Mystify. Usually this isn't a problem, but today when I moved the mouse, the screen saver froze. I couldn't soft boot, actually had to shut down manually. This is the second time this has happened.
I've checked whether I'm using the latest video driver using device manager, and it says everything is up to date. I'm using NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, driver version 7.15.11.7530. Could there be a device conflict? How would I be able to tell?

I cannot get group policy to initiate the screensaver on one of our vista business sp1 machines. I've done extensive research and found only solutions that revolve around updating the HID-compliant mouse driver[COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important][/COLOR][/COLOR]. Now, the machines we have do not use wireless mice and all of them are nearly identical. I've looked through the event viewer but cannot find any sort of task that comes from group policy that locks the machine. I did find eventID 124 "Task triggered by locking the workstation" but its not clear that this is coming from group policy. Regardless, the machine in question never has a log in the event viewer about this task.

My computer came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium and for some time I was able to run a slideshow of pictures as my screensaver. After a while however this feature stopped working. Then after a double virus/spyware attack I decided to make a fresh installation of Vista. However, the slideshow feature still will not work. Has anyone got any ideas how to get it to work?

Instead of a screensaver, I am getting a message "Need a newer video card or one that is compatible with Direct3D" All the rest of my graphic requiremnets seem to be o.k., but can't run a screensaver since I installed Vista. Can anyone let me know what video card I need to buy.(I don't play any games on the computer).
