I cannot get group policy to initiate the screensaver on one of our vista business sp1 machines. I've done extensive research and found only solutions that revolve around updating the HID-compliant mouse driver[COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important][/COLOR][/COLOR]. Now, the machines we have do not use wireless mice and all of them are nearly identical. I've looked through the event viewer but cannot find any sort of task that comes from group policy that locks the machine. I did find eventID 124 "Task triggered by locking the workstation" but its not clear that this is coming from group policy. Regardless, the machine in question never has a log in the event viewer about this task.
I have a local group policy on Vista x64 that is not running. This script runs fine on every other OS. W2K > Win7 (including x64 machines) It is a machine policy and it will not run. It is a script that runs bginfo from the Program Files folder.
i am trying to open Group Policy editor and i cant. i have done it the quick mode and also in administrative tools > edit group policy and it appears this message: 'MMC cannot open the file C:WindowsSystem32gpedit.msc. This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. this may also be because you do not have sufficiento acces rights to the file'' I am in an administrator account and i have Windows Vista Home Premium.
Group policy editor dll is there, but not gpedit.msc on Vista Hom Premium 64 bit
Hmmmm I wonder if this is one of those things like ShadowExplorer where the facility is there but not accessible without a utility? I say that because I notice on Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 gpedit.dll is there, just not the .msc applet. Anyone know if a util is there to access it or if it's even useful on Home Premium? I'm thinking the guy who did ShadowExplorer took it upon himself to get at the goodies even though they weren't supposed to work in lesser versions. I just don't know that much about group policy stuff to know if it's generally all that useful.
(just wondering if the gpedit.dll is there for a reason other than inertia)
When I attempt to logon I get the following message: "The Group Policy Client Failed The Logon." (The only way I can logon is to hit the F8 key and go to "Last Known Good Configuration.". Every solution I search for seems to believe this is ONLY a problem for systems with multiple USER ACCOUNTS. I have this problem and I have only one User Account on my computer. The Guest Account is OFF. There has never been a Guest Account set up. I am the Administrator. I even tried turning the User Account Control to OFF but it didn't make any difference.
I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem. I have a Win7 Home Premium 32bit netbook and a Vista Home Premium 64bit laptop on a wireless network. I'm able to share files, folders, and a printer with no problem, but I can't seem to share the DVD drive on the laptop. I want to be able to install software on the Win7 netbook using the Vista laptop's DVD drive over the network. The DVD drive is shared and given full control permission. It shows up on the Win7 netbook, but when I try to access it, it says Windows cannot access (drive name). You do not have permission to access (drive name). Contact your network administrator to request access.
After browsing the net for a solution, I think an entry in the Vista registry is restricting access to the drive through a group policy. I saw on another forum where changing the Default value to 0 may correct this issue. I also changed the ValueType value to 0. Neither worked for me. Then I noticed that DisplayName value, @wsecedit.dll,-59098. (See picture) I researched and found out that it had something to do with a Group Policy restriction. Since there is no Group Policy Editor for Vista Home Premium, could I simply delete that entry? How else could I change or edit that? (I saw on this forum where someone is working on Group Policy Editor for all versions of Vista).
I stupidly deleted C:UsersMyName tuser.dat. Now when I try to log on to my account, I get the message "The Group Policy Client service failed the logon." I am now logged on to my Administrator account to post this message. All of my files that I use daily are in the MyName account. I deperately need to be able to access the MyName account. How can I restore the ntuser.dat file?
After posting this, I checked C:UsersMyName tuser.dat and saw that it is now listed after I rebooted the computer, but I still cannot login to my account.
I only have one account on my computer and its my administrative account. When i try to log on this message pops up and it: Group Policy Client Service Failed the logon Access Denied and then it logs me out i cant even enter my computer if someone could tell me how to fix it without having to send in my computer for repair and paying 200 something dollars.
The other day i was sitting next to my mate who was making notes on his MacBook. The cool thing i saw on that Mac was that, when not in use for a few seconds, the screen saver or the power saver doesn't appear, but first the brightness of the screen got to its minimum and then the screen went into power saver mode.
Is there a way to make my Vista do that as well? So instead of a screen saver, it would just turn the brightness to its lowest point and after a few minutes, it would go completely dark to save energy?
I know this is a Vista news group but I haven't been able to find a Windows 7 group so maybe one of you guys can answer my question. I have the power settings to never put computer or screen to sleep and there is no screen saver setup. When I leave my computer alone for awhile the screen goes black. This never happened with Vista when setup this way why is Windows 7 doing this?
I am having a very wierd issue with vista's screen saver. So basically when I leave the comp idle it goes into screen saver then turns off the monitor after 15 mins. Sometimes, more often than not, I come back and move the mouse and hit a few keys on the keyboard and nothing. The monitor wont come out of standby I try turning it off and back on, and nothing. I have the latest drivers for everything in my system and I checked the power management settings and they both are able to wake the computer up. I have a G15 keyboard and I keep the leds on and when this happens the leds are off and the lazer for the mouse is off too.
I use my pictures as a screen saver, but it won't ever turn off, I don't want it to sleep because it takes to long to boot up again, any other suggestions? I have Vista. I didn't have this problem with windows xp. I want into preferences and just told it when to stop the screen saver.
I just got a new computer, and I got Vista x64 on it.The problem is that the screen saver won't turn on after the time set.What can I do?BTW, I am using a wireless set of Microsoft keyboard and mouse.
For the life of my, I can't get my Twingly Screensaver to work on my computer (Vista 64x), it doesn't appear in the screensaver list. Also, when it installs, even when I select Windows/System32 it doesn't install there and goes to the 64 folder. Here's a link to the screensaver Twingly Screensaver - visualizing the global blogosphere. It doesn't have a .scr which I think is the problem, is there anyway I can bypass this?
I notice that there are only a few choices to the screen saver in vista. is there a way I can add a image to the list without using the option for photos?
I seem to be having some trouble with my screen saver. I have the picture viewer as my preferred screen saver but it doesn't seem to work at all. The preview image shows that I should be seeing something, but when I click the "preview" button, the screen goes black and doesn't cycle through anything. It is as though the screen saver is activated, but not cycling. All other screen savers work except the picture viewer. I use a nvidia 9300 GE, which I just updated the drivers for about 2 days ago.
When any screensaver kicks in, it is transparent, meaning that I see through it to the desktop, which is still up. How do I make the desktop disappear when the screensaver turns on? As an example, when I turn on the Bubbles screensaver, bubbles bounce around on the screen OVER the desktop, not in place of it.
I Installed software & conected Mouse transmiter to computer which has vista on it and the screen saver won't work pull the transmiter out and the screen saver works. Has anyone had this problem if so did you get it fixed.
The screen saver is not working, when we go to the screen saver setting - there is a message - "The screen saver can't run because it requires a newer video card or which require Direct 3D" But it was working a day ago.
Can anyone explain why Windows periodically freezes when the screen saver is running? At first I thought it was due to the Windows Live Photo Gallery. After running for several hours (overnight, for e.g.), it would freeze on one picture. Usually moving the mouse would eventually close the screen saver and I'd return to the desktop.
I then changed to a regular screen saver, Mystify. Usually this isn't a problem, but today when I moved the mouse, the screen saver froze. I couldn't soft boot, actually had to shut down manually. This is the second time this has happened.
I've checked whether I'm using the latest video driver using device manager, and it says everything is up to date. I'm using NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, driver version 7.15.11.7530. Could there be a device conflict? How would I be able to tell?
I want to change my screen saver to my photos. I followed the steps already, seen it in the preview screen, but when I don't do any thing on the computer and the screen saver is supposed to come up, it doesn't. It says I have no photos in the folder i selected.
Looking to create a single click shortcut for accessing Vista's screen saver dialog box, turn on off. Instead of going through Control Panel, then Personalization, then screen saver.
My computer came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium and for some time I was able to run a slideshow of pictures as my screensaver. After a while however this feature stopped working. Then after a double virus/spyware attack I decided to make a fresh installation of Vista. However, the slideshow feature still will not work. Has anyone got any ideas how to get it to work?
