Navigation Pane In Window
Jun 30, 2008When I open a file folder and it has other folders in it--I want to see the folder tree in a navigation window but none of the help choices tell me how to do this

How Can Change Window Explorers Navigation Pane
Jul 28, 2009I don't know how I got this from the navigation pane that I was used to which had lots more folders which I did use to drag and drop files from the main window to either of these folders.

Apr 10, 2008When I launch MY Computer, the navigation pane on the left "USED TO" display a Favorites List. It has now disappeared! When I right click on the pane and select, "Restore Default Favorite Links" nothing happens. Also, when I try to drag and drop and "create shortcut here" nothing happens. The pane is listed as EMPTY. The My Favorite Links folder is still on my C: drive with all my favorite shortcuts in it. :confused:... Has anyone else run into this little Vista annoyance and found a solution?

Jan 11, 2008Any time i open internet explorer or click on a link in a page, instead of showing my home page or the page relevant to the link I clicked, i get a navigation error "Navigation to website canceled". It then goes to the login page for LinkedIn. I am a LinkedIn subscriber but have never set this as an option for my home page.
I have also cleared all my internet history (cookies etc). Once the LinkedIn homepage has loaded I can click back then refresh the page and the page I wanted will display (usually). How can I stop this from happening? I have Vista Home Premium, Office 2007 and IE7 on a Sony Vaio
Navigation Blocked - And No Fixes Worked
May 28, 2008a new vista system, and I cannot get into my email or access some secured sites. I have an XP system with IE7 and it is working fine to get to these sites. I have cleared all the caches, history, temp, etc., did not fix. I have checked all the various SSL including 1.0, did not fix. I have pulled down firewall, did not fix. Of course, put it back up. I have added secure site to list and unchecked require authentication, did not fix. I wish I could download the certificate - but I cannot get to the site! When clicking continue to site, the navigation blocked appears and will not allow me to proceed. I have unchecked the two URL certificate required settings, did not fix. I have tried to download firefox/other browers - will not let me - says downloaded but not done! Also, there is no system restore point - this is a brand new machine. Cannot find any definitive hot fix info on this from microsoft. I have done a complete brower reset, did not fix.

Jun 20, 2009Say you have a folder called "Indie Music". It has 300 subfolders with music files (say X, Y, Z, etc.). I want to delete subfolder Y and then have the focus go to X or Z (the previous or the following subfolder). But after deleting Y, my focus is jumping back to "Indie Music", every single time. How am I supposed to keep track of where I was within my 300 subfolders and know which subfolder to focus on next when all I can see is the parent folder? Also, when i rename one of my 300 subfolders, the focus stays with that subfolder after the rename. If I rename "GGGG" to "ZGGG", the focus has gone to "ZGGG", right at the bottom of the tree, and again I have no idea where I was before.
Basic housekeeping with these subfolders has become impossible. I have given up on arranging and managing my music, pictures, etc. and have to transfer all my work folders to another PC where I can work and also keep some sanity. Is there a setting to keep the focus on the previous or next subfolder after deleting or renaming instead of taking it back to the parent folder? I had no choice (Vista or XP) when I bought my new laptop,and I spent hours (that I don't have!) trying to find my way around Vista.
Sound Scheme: Getting A Yellow Exclamation Point On Windows Start Navigation Sound
Jul 29, 2009I keep getting a yellow exclamation point on windows start navigation sound I can go in and select it and it works for the time it is selected. but as soon as I reboot the yellow exclamation point comes back how do I fix this can someone help me please it annoying and aggravating to have to turn that on all the time. I even did a system restore back to yesterday thinking I did something to it no go still dose it. nothing else broken all works good sound everything just not this one.

Why is the Explorer window showing different filenames than the command line window? It's not so much of an issue, as I'm currently completing a scheduled backup of this drive using Nero Burning ROM, and will be formatting it soon.

May 21, 2009I'm not sure what I have done but the left hand pane in which shows the list of folders (inbox, sent, deleted etc) in windows mail has completely disappeared.
I have tried rebooting, I have tried going into layout and making sure the folder list is checked but it will just not come back. They folders are still there as I can get to them through the folder bar option. If I uncheck the folders list box the folder bar shows a drop done menu with the folders.
Recycle Bin Right Pane View
Feb 23, 2009I have a habit to see the date of delete of the files in recycle bin before i permanently erase them. Each time i open the recycle bin folder, the right pane view is always in Tiles mode, even i have changed it to Details mode. Vista has totally no memory about this. That is not something very difficult but i do not know why xp can do it, but vista cant !

Apr 24, 2008I have 2 Hard Drives - 1 for OS the other for Data. Since all my data is on disk D I wanted to change the Documents, Music, and Pictires links on the rhs of the start pane to point to the new location. i did that OK by using properties, move location.however I stuffed it up by changing where "Videos" points. "videos is a link under the users on c:. Anyway, I sent it to the wrong place. When I tried to fix it my documents, pictures and music links were all lost. Somehow i've managed to re-establish the Documents link to point to the correct place (on the Data HDD) but I can't change Music or Pictures. They are just empty and do nothing. If I point to them and right click and select properties there is no "Location" tab, and in fact there is nothing at all.The links are OK in "Favourite Links" when Computer window is open, but they are dead on my start panel right hand side. All the other items in that panel are OK. How can I reset those links to point where I want.

May 21, 2009When I open any one of my folders is there a way to NOT have the contents of the first e-mail listed displayed in the Preview Pane automatically? I know that if I click to the far right of the e-mail list the Preview Pane will be empty and a message will show that says "There is no message selected." In order to navigate to my other folders, I have to click on Local Folders, when they are displayed in the message pane. The problem I see is that Vista shows the very 1st second of video, while Windows 7 shows the 4th. That's why many of the video previews on the details pane show a black screen on vista instead of actual video.

I have now subscribed to 10 newsgroups, and am finding it harder to find the few I usually go to, compared to the ones that I only go to once or twice, whenever I have a rare question. Is there a way I can manually change the order in which they appear (in the left pane--I see "Local Folders" and "Microsoft Communities" as the two major sections)? It looks like Windows Main arranges them in alphabetical order. Is there any way I can drag-n-drop, or change them in any other way?

Feb 23, 2010I do not have a folder pane (a folder tree with the Desktop, my Computer, the Network) in Explorer any more. This is a rather annoiing and difficult problem, and have searched several times for hour with NO solution for Vista. I do not know exactly when this started, since I'm not normally using Windows Explorer that much. Now when I open the Explorer, the place where the Folder pane should be is totally blank, as seen below. (My Layout is set to "Navigation Pane")
I can see contents of folders in the Right pane and navigate through them, but can't see any folder hierarchy in the Left Folder-pane -- it's just totally blank as shown above. Does anyone have a solution?
