Is there any way to stop the navigation pane from shifting left/right when opening/closing folders. It is VERY annoying. On a positive note, I have found several fixes for problems in these forums.

When I launch MY Computer, the navigation pane on the left "USED TO" display a Favorites List. It has now disappeared! When I right click on the pane and select, "Restore Default Favorite Links" nothing happens. Also, when I try to drag and drop and "create shortcut here" nothing happens. The pane is listed as EMPTY. The My Favorite Links folder is still on my C: drive with all my favorite shortcuts in it. :confused:... Has anyone else run into this little Vista annoyance and found a solution?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI only use Windows Mail to handle my MS newsgroups (it does an excellent job of this). I have now subscribed to 10 newsgroups, and am finding it harder to find the few I usually go to, compared to the ones that I only go to once or twice, whenever I have a rare question. Is there a way I can manually change the order in which they appear (in the left pane--I see "Local Folders" and "Microsoft Communities" as the two major sections)? It looks like Windows Main arranges them in alphabetical order. Is there any way I can drag-n-drop, or change them in any other way?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI do not use the documents folder nor the desktop for data storage. My data is always on another hard drive and I an extra internal and several external hard drives. Everytime I open explorer, the folder list shows with Documents expanded. I have to minimize that, then scroll up and minimum my user name folder, then maximize the Computer folder. That is what I want to see when I open explorer.
It is possible to save that setting. I have seen a lot of posts on folder view, but I am not sure if anyone actually talks about the left half of this view setting. Why is My computer now part of the desktop and sub of user? Already in XP I hated that the C drive always opened explanded.
When using Windows Mail, I have a series of folders and sub-folders on the left side. It used to be that the sub-folders were always closed. Now, for some reason, the sub-folders are always open when I open up Windows Mail.
This is regardless of how I exit Windows Mail. In other words, when I'm all done with Windows Mail, I leave it with all sub-folders closed, but the next time when I open and use it again, I find that all the sub-folders are open again.
i hv been using xp x86. now when i have 4 gig ram... xp x86 (sp3) wud take up only 3 gig.. (1gig graphic..) so m planning to shift to vista ul x64 or windows 7 x64. so i wanted to ask.. wether... all the games which i am running here in xp x86.. will they run in x64.. ( means those setups and all and it will wrok properly.. cuzz m shifting only for gaming and making my pc recognize 4gig. and which one shud i chose...?? vista x64.. or 7 x64

View 7 Replies View RelatedAny time i open internet explorer or click on a link in a page, instead of showing my home page or the page relevant to the link I clicked, i get a navigation error "Navigation to website canceled". It then goes to the login page for LinkedIn. I am a LinkedIn subscriber but have never set this as an option for my home page.
I have also cleared all my internet history (cookies etc). Once the LinkedIn homepage has loaded I can click back then refresh the page and the page I wanted will display (usually). How can I stop this from happening? I have Vista Home Premium, Office 2007 and IE7 on a Sony Vaio
a new vista system, and I cannot get into my email or access some secured sites. I have an XP system with IE7 and it is working fine to get to these sites. I have cleared all the caches, history, temp, etc., did not fix. I have checked all the various SSL including 1.0, did not fix. I have pulled down firewall, did not fix. Of course, put it back up. I have added secure site to list and unchecked require authentication, did not fix. I wish I could download the certificate - but I cannot get to the site! When clicking continue to site, the navigation blocked appears and will not allow me to proceed. I have unchecked the two URL certificate required settings, did not fix. I have tried to download firefox/other browers - will not let me - says downloaded but not done! Also, there is no system restore point - this is a brand new machine. Cannot find any definitive hot fix info on this from microsoft. I have done a complete brower reset, did not fix.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSay you have a folder called "Indie Music". It has 300 subfolders with music files (say X, Y, Z, etc.). I want to delete subfolder Y and then have the focus go to X or Z (the previous or the following subfolder). But after deleting Y, my focus is jumping back to "Indie Music", every single time. How am I supposed to keep track of where I was within my 300 subfolders and know which subfolder to focus on next when all I can see is the parent folder? Also, when i rename one of my 300 subfolders, the focus stays with that subfolder after the rename. If I rename "GGGG" to "ZGGG", the focus has gone to "ZGGG", right at the bottom of the tree, and again I have no idea where I was before.
Basic housekeeping with these subfolders has become impossible. I have given up on arranging and managing my music, pictures, etc. and have to transfer all my work folders to another PC where I can work and also keep some sanity. Is there a setting to keep the focus on the previous or next subfolder after deleting or renaming instead of taking it back to the parent folder? I had no choice (Vista or XP) when I bought my new laptop,and I spent hours (that I don't have!) trying to find my way around Vista.
I keep getting a yellow exclamation point on windows start navigation sound I can go in and select it and it works for the time it is selected. but as soon as I reboot the yellow exclamation point comes back how do I fix this can someone help me please it annoying and aggravating to have to turn that on all the time. I even did a system restore back to yesterday thinking I did something to it no go still dose it. nothing else broken all works good sound everything just not this one.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what I have done but the left hand pane in which shows the list of folders (inbox, sent, deleted etc) in windows mail has completely disappeared.
I have tried rebooting, I have tried going into layout and making sure the folder list is checked but it will just not come back. They folders are still there as I can get to them through the folder bar option. If I uncheck the folders list box the folder bar shows a drop done menu with the folders.
I have a habit to see the date of delete of the files in recycle bin before i permanently erase them. Each time i open the recycle bin folder, the right pane view is always in Tiles mode, even i have changed it to Details mode. Vista has totally no memory about this. That is not something very difficult but i do not know why xp can do it, but vista cant !

Since all my data is on disk D I wanted to change the Documents, Music, and Pictires links on the rhs of the start pane to point to the new location. i did that OK by using properties, move location.however I stuffed it up by changing where "Videos" points. "videos is a link under the users on c:. Anyway, I sent it to the wrong place. When I tried to fix it my documents, pictures and music links were all lost. Somehow i've managed to re-establish the Documents link to point to the correct place (on the Data HDD) but I can't change Music or Pictures. They are just empty and do nothing. If I point to them and right click and select properties there is no "Location" tab, and in fact there is nothing at all.The links are OK in "Favourite Links" when Computer window is open, but they are dead on my start panel right hand side. All the other items in that panel are OK. How can I reset those links to point where I want.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen starting up Vista, my display is always off to the left of the screen, meaning my start button is way off the screen and there's a black space on the right, like the display has simply been moved 2 inches to the left. I can fix it, by entering NVIDIA Control Panel and switch connector: back and forth between HDMI-HDTV (audio disabled) and HDMI - HDTV (audio enabled). but if the pc enters sleep or I reboot the problem is back.
Now I know the general problem because I had it with xp also, seems my monitor likes to tell my pc that it's a tv (I'm sorry I'm not into the tech lingo). And I've fixed it previously by changing codes in .ini files and ect. but I'd rather not do it on a new crisp clean first time install of Vista, anyone know of this problem and how to fix it for good?
i have and use my pc entirely for a MEdia Center. I created a 40 Gig system partition which is now down to its last GB which i find ridiculous seeing i have minimal applications installed. I have deleted the memory dump file and disabled this function, and run a defrag which now has given me 4GB of space. Now a quick check shows about 22 GIG of installed apps including the OS and a 5 GIG pagefile.

I know that if I click to the far right of the e-mail list the Preview Pane will be empty and a message will show that says "There is no message selected." Above picture isn't mine, due to my print screen not working, but I have near all of the right panes contents off (via Start Menu Properties), thus why I'm wanting to put my own custom shortcuts there.
The pic is fairly self-explanatory, but as you can see on the left hand side in the folders pane, there is 2 of nearly every folder.

In order to navigate to my other folders, I have to click on Local Folders, when they are displayed in the message pane. I can then open any folder but cannot transfer files to the folder from the inbox.

It use to be windows xp as a second OS but i deleted it and it left me with 15 gigs of space. I can format it and shrink it just to test if it functions and it does. oh I also tried using partition wizard home edition, it did not work, and i tried to use EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition free edition but it said that its no compatibale with 64-bit even though i got it from the 64-bit section.( and yes just incase, I right clicked and ran as administrator )
View 9 Replies View RelatedTurned off UAC in Vista x64 Ultimate, Received an e-mail that appeared to be my CNN alerts. It was Antivirus XP 2008 virus. Avast Pro 4.8 has been finding viruses in both Safe Mode and regular. Search and Destroy can't seem to deal with them. Backing up my data right now. Ready to reinstall everything. S&D reports clear. IE7 does not always work. I reset and internet connection gets blocked.
