I wish to back up my Windows mail for later browsing while deleting the originals. But the backed up mail listing does not display the mailing date but only the backup date. Only when opened the mail reveals the date. When browsing 1000 messages that is not a good way to find the one from a specific date. Is there a way to equip the list of messages as held in the Windows mail with mail dates?
i just installed the latest windows live mail beta software client and i wanted to know how do i get junk mail to be displayed automatically ? before it would show automatically on the layout of the reading pane to the right of the message list but now i have to click to open them because they wont show in the reading pane like they did before
2 computers, one running XP & Outlook Express shows any newsgroup posts or replies I make. The other, running Vista Home Premium and Windows Mail, won't display any of my posts or replies to threads but, others can see and reply to them and I can see my postings contained in their replies.
I subscribed to several newsgroups and retrieved the posts locally. It seems Windows Mail onlly retrieves part of the newsgroup posts. I cannot seem to find where I may configure to make it display all the posts which I can see via Web page. For example, I cannot see posts earlier than August, 2008.
Is it possible to obtain a comprehensive listing of servers and interpreters that are a normal part of the Windows Vista Operating System? These are the only kinds of programs I expect the Security updates to be fixing.
Servers = Programs included with the OS which accepts commands from the Internet or LAN external to My Computer. Interpreters = Programs which will execute any kind of source code whatsoever like HyperTextMarkUpLanguage HTML or Basic or C+ or Fortran or whatever.
I know of no other kinds of programs unless you can tell me now that may work ndependent of User Control. If I could ID these rouge programs running in the background it would be better than the security updates themselves.
I need to uninstall several programs from my computer that are not listed in the uninstall list under Control Panel. I do not have a lot of experience. I have an HP 64 bit system with dual processors and a 500 gig hard drive. Please how do I uninstall these programs? I have Glary Utilities with uninstall and it cannot find the programs to uninstall them. I can find the folders myself but deleting them doesn't uninstall them. The programs work and I can access them through shortcuts on my desktop.
I run a larger Yahoo Group 1000+ and Yahoo sends html group mails to all members wherby yahoo inserts system messages and sometimes ads at a fixed right border, about 80 charactes to the right. Whilst other e-mail clients insert automatic line breaks into the mail text befor the yahoo generated blocks, Windows Mail does not, the yahoo generated blocks overlay the text, the text continues behind those blocks and continues to the right side as long as a line takes. The only way to show all of the text is to switch to text only display.
I checked all possible option settings I could find but cannot find any option which controls this in Windows mail specific html behaviour. Befor I tell my Vista Users to use Thunderbird or Outlook or other clients- is there a way to change the html behaviour?
I have a new computer with Vista HP x64. I have a problem somewhere which is stopping a successful boot - the screen hangs following the 'PCI Devices Listing...'. I have tried to re-boot from the original installation CD and I can hear the disk whirring but then it stops and boot-up simply hangs.
I want to go back to square one and re-format my hard disk and start again, but I don't know how to do this, because I don't know how to move past the point at which the boot stalls.

I just noticed on my fairly new HP laptop that Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit with SP1 is showing double listings for most of the installed programs in Programs and Features (ie the Add or Remove Programs in XP).What is wrong, what is the cause, how can I fix it?
I have had installed a Pentium D Extreme Edition 840 3.2 Gig CPU, in Device Manager it lists four CPU's, two as Pentium D 3.2 and Two as P4 3.2, is this what should be showing, or has the tech missed something in installing?
Can I remove the display of the e-mail address associated with the name of the person I'm sending mail to in the "to:" box? If I remember, this was not shown in outlook express.
how do I get my contacts in my incoming mail display as names rather than email addresses. The contacts are in my address book with their full names and some show as their full names and others just show the email address.
I have several directories that I access fairly often so I would like to add them to the top level listing of "My Computer" for easy access. I know I could do shortcuts on the desktop but would also like access via the "My Computer" listing. Is there anyway to create a "virtual" directory pointing to the subdirectory I want jump too and having that show up in "My Computer" ?
I've bought a new computer with windows vista business in it - i completed the installation but all the menus and start buttun items are in Turkish cause computer bought in Turkey! How can i switch this so every menu displays is in English?
I'm in the process of building a PC, so I thought I'd try the ole Windows Vista 64-bit version for the machine. I've got for the machine, a Philips 22" 220CW8FB/05 LCD wide screen monitor, which has a nice display, really. As one does, I've calibrated said monitor and saved the settings, everything looked great. Experience tells me to be weary of what might happen, so I restarted the PC to see that my monitor's resolution and setting aren't displayed properly. The image is stretched vertically, the Start bar isn't even visible - until - I go Personalize > and adjust the resolution to something else, select No when asked if I'd like to keep it and hey presto, my monitor displays properly now. Problem is, I have to do that every single time I restart the machine. Currently, I've got just the drivers that come with my components CDs, I haven't been able to check on-line for other versions (but there isn't one for the monitor) for say the motherboard or graphics card, because in one of typically brilliant Windows moments™ (like when my mouse stopped working and it prompted me to "click here to fix the problem"), when I tried to install the -Vista compatible- modem, Vista said it wouldn't install it without a digital signature, and that I should go to the manufacturer's website for more information. I would. If I had a modem. So, in your humble opinion, which is the bigger waste of money currently? Vista or my monitor (twice as expensive as Vista)? Alternatively, any suggestions as to how I would be able to resolve the aforementioned conflict? I'd really like to keep both of them.PS. I guess it could also be a graphics card problem. It's French (not really, it's from Taiwan, an MSI NX8800GT).
just after some idea of what's gone wrong.I was playing Warcraft, got up from desk then heard a weird noise ( by weird almost like a fizzy whooshy kinda thing, lol sorry )the pc went off and appeared to start up but with no display, the keyboard won't work and the keyboard backlight flickers like mad, plus the power button will not switch it off when pressed down...Power is there, lights and fans on processor n graphics are on, DVD drive lights on, 2 on the back are on (unsure what they for), all seems ok but can't see a display, tested keyboard n monitor on ps3 all ok with it being various bits could it be motherboard ? Not fussed bout pc though, just want to make sure it doesn't sound like hardrive, photos n stuff, sods law I didn't back up on Saturday as normal !!
Windows Vista Search is giving me results, just not in the form in which I'd expect. When I search for a particular term, I get, for arguments sake, 1066 results, all of various file types. Around 695 of those results are JPG pictures. If I click on the button to Show Only Pictures, then the details pane shows that there are now only 695 results, but the results don't show. In order for me to see the pictures, I ned to click on All, and then scroll the results until I find the pictures I want. This only happens with when I try to filter a search to show only pictures.
In Windows Calendar is there a way to display the start time of events on the screen (other than in the "details pane" off to the right) and when it prints in the Month View mode?
I do not use the documents folder nor the desktop for data storage. My data is always on another hard drive and I an extra internal and several external hard drives. Everytime I open explorer, the folder list shows with Documents expanded. I have to minimize that, then scroll up and minimum my user name folder, then maximize the Computer folder. That is what I want to see when I open explorer.
It is possible to save that setting. I have seen a lot of posts on folder view, but I am not sure if anyone actually talks about the left half of this view setting. Why is My computer now part of the desktop and sub of user? Already in XP I hated that the C drive always opened explanded.
Running Vista on an HP...When I get the pop up to compact the mail I click OK and it gets about 3 quarters of the way thru and I get the message Windows Mail has stopped working and Windows is searching for an answer. The answer was DEP (Data Execution Protection)was shutting it down to protect my computer..What's the problem??? Norton internet Security up to date and nothing found with complete system scan..Vista up to date as well.
Just to get better explaination about this.Whenever i set the Power Options->Turn Off The Display->Any Value->then when monitor went to off(standby) = Windows Crashed/Blue Screen. But, when i set to never, no problem. Already tried all the values, result = same.
I'd like to put a little disclaimer out here: I know very little about computers. I can navigate my way around them as needed for personal/school usage. Outside of that, my knowledge is spotty. Most of the technical stuff I need done on my computer is done by my father over breaks/weekends, because I can't leave my laptop with the Tech guys at my school since I take notes for every class on it.
So now for the computer... Oi. The computer I have is a Dell Inspiron 1420. I got it back in May. It's running Vista Home Premium 32BIT, and I'm using Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 (I don't know if that is relevant or not, but I'll include it just the same). Since I've gotten it, I've had more problems than I can count. The last problem I had before the current one (random BSODs), was a corrupt file on my computer (Dell Support Center). It wouldn't let me download or install anything, and I had to install SystemMechanic on my computer to get rid of the corrupt files/registries (I think. My father actually did this for me.) The SystemMechanic allowed me to uninstall/delete the corrupt file, and voila, it worked! For about two weeks.
Then I started getting blue screens of death. At first it was only one, and there were a few days/week and a half until I got another. And now, in the past two days, I've gotten at least two (I have left my computer sitting on my desk to do something and I have come back to find it "magically" rebooted and waiting for my login, or stuck on the black screen with the blinking underscore).
My main mail client is my office XP system, I also receive mail in home. So I select the 'Leave mail on Server' in my home XP system and it work fine. But after I upgrade my home PC to Vista system (I export my mail account for XP outlook express then inport it to my Vista system.) then it have problem - when the mail that I received in home Vista system Windows Mail then i no longer can receive in office mail client. Does anyone know is it the bug of Vista Windows Mail?
I received this after my computer locked up when trying to open up windows Mail "Windows Mail could not be started, initialize junk filtering. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. (0x80070002)" After closing that error out I get "Windows Mail could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized.
I've had a problem for a while now. Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.
