Sidebar Can Not Show The Desktop
Mar 30, 2009Does anyone use it? I tried it but i cant for the life of me see any real point in it , ive had cpu monitors in there , bandwidth monitors disk usage stats the weather even linked it up to Everest pro edition and still found it a waste of time , i cant even see it for 99% of the time cos who ever stares at their desktop? Open an app and its gone , or set it to display on top of all windows and it just becomes a pain thats always in the way?? Am i missing something? According to the interweb its one of the most popular features in Vista!! any gadgets you would recommend?

Jun 2, 2008I turned on my computer this morning, put in my password in the log-in screen as usual. Then when windows started I noticed that my wallpaper was the original vista wallpaper, all my sidebar gadgets were just the starting ones, and that about half my desktop shortcuts were missing. On top of that, all my documents, pictures, music, and even my bookmarks on mozilla firefox were gone!! But oddly enough when I go into C:/users/Matt everything is where it should be. But if i use the links from the start bar, it takes me to Users/Temp folder.

Jul 29, 2009I have my desktop set up the way I like it and have my icons grouped in different parts of the screen and in an order that I like. Every so often, something happens like an error or booting into safe mode that sends all my icons to be aligned together starting in the upper left of my screen. Then I have to put them back in order. There appears to be some order in which they're realigned, but the order isn't consistent between the groups. How can I create a backup of my desktop display so that I won't have to move every icon back into place manually? Is there a file somewhere that I can copy back into place when this happens?

Program Can't Display Message On Desktop
Mar 23, 2008Whenever I access a particular application, a message box tells me that "A program can't display a message on your desktop." The details on the message box say that there is a partial incompatibility with Vista. I can close the message box, but it continues to pop up every few minutes. The application program seems to work fine, however. The message box is just incredibly annoying!!! My Windows services are set for "Interactive Services" to use the "Manual" Startup Type, but the status is currently started. MY QUESTION: Is this simply a notification box only? Will stopping or disabling this service cause any security problems.... or will it simply halt the notifications?

Desktop Wallpaper Display (stretch, Title, Etc.)
Feb 1, 2009I'm trying to change the way a wallpaper is displayed on the desktop (i.e. Stretch, Tile, Centred) but I can't. The wallpaper is always displayed stretched out and I can't change it to be tiled or centred.
The way I'm doing this (to no avail) is obviously to right-click the desktop, then choose "Personalize", then click on "Desktop Background", then click one of the three radio buttons at the bottom (in this case, either of the two on the right), then click "OK".

Mar 23, 2008He was infected by ISASS malware, a WORM that hide in windows system folders and share my conection with anothers users without my autorization. In firewall i can see a lot of ports opened without my UAC identify. Anti v??rus like norton or kaspersky don't solve my problem. I tried windows defender, and tried RegistryBooster 2, both without sucess.

a) Windows Update- Windows update is failing to load any new updates available, after selecting "check for updates" i am responded with an immediate error; it states. Windows could not search for new updates. Error(s) found: Code 80040154. Get help I have googled my error code but not many responses. So thats my first concern
b)Live Messenger 8.1- Secondly, i was shocked to find my msn wasn't working (works on web based version, so cant be wrong login details) first the typing was slow then i get the error code: 800401f3 denying me login. I searched up the code and found i had to type up some things in cmd...........
Windows Sidebar Sys Tray Icon Changes To That Of Windows Defender?
Feb 7, 2009Vista Ultimate SP1+. On a couple occasions after turning Windows Sidebar off and later back on I've noticed its sys tray icon has changed to the same icon Windows Defender uses. After a warm boot Sidebar seems to sort itself out. Any rhyme or reason for this?

Mar 23, 2008I'm sure everyone knows that Windows Sidebar can potentially destroy the amount of RAM that is available on your PC, but I'm having sort of an unusual problem with this. When Windows Sidebar is loaded, the amount of RAM that it occupies is about 20MB, which is certainly acceptable for me. However, after the course of 6 or so hours the RAM increases upwards of 120MB, and after 12 hours, nearly 200MB! This just doesn't seem right. I'm assuming Sidebar is stored some previous information via RAM, but I really can't see this information being necessary at all. Is there anyway I can put a cap on the amount of RAM that Sidebar uses? Or even some other method to reduce the RAM usage?

I can bring it up and add gadgets but they don't function properly and they only have an X on the right hand side (no magnifying glass to edit options). Oct 29, 2009I've been getting that message for a while. When I try to look at the Sidebar properties, which I find using the Start/Search feature, nothing opens. When I go to the Sidebar folder in C:/Program Files/Windows Sidebar, there are 3 items there: a subfolder labeled Gadgets, a Configuration Settings icon labeled Settings, and a Sidebar application icon. If I click on the application icon, I just get the "Windows sidebar is not working" message. All of this happened after a System Restore a couple of months ago.

Oct 27, 2008I install a fresh copy of Vista 64-bit and every thing is working fine. after windows install all updates and become up to date my Windows Sidebar crashes and don't want to start. every time i try to run it i get an error message and this happen only after the updates but before it it's works fine so is there any way to make it run normally again?

A while ago I even removed one gadget at the time to see if it would stop crashing but it didn't.
