I am using Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (laptop). My windows sidebar has dissapeared and I cannot retreive it. At each start up I get the message 'Windows sidebar is managed by your system administrator' my pc is not part of a network as I am the only user.

a) Windows Update- Windows update is failing to load any new updates available, after selecting "check for updates" i am responded with an immediate error; it states. Windows could not search for new updates. Error(s) found: Code 80040154. Get help I have googled my error code but not many responses. So thats my first concern
b)Live Messenger 8.1- Secondly, i was shocked to find my msn wasn't working (works on web based version, so cant be wrong login details) first the typing was slow then i get the error code: 800401f3 denying me login. I searched up the code and found i had to type up some things in cmd...........
I just changed the letter on a external hard drive. Now the disk drive icon has dissapeared?? I tried to change it using a ico file, but nothing is working? It is still the same?? Does anyone know what has happened? or, tell me what to do? To get the image back?

This means double clicking doesn't open the file. I can however go to "open with" and open it that way.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI think it was after the updates loaded for windows incl. sp1 or after the vista patch for the game witcher which came from the microsoft site. Problem is that my optical drives dissappeared and the wireless adapter seemed to become D drive. Device manager says drivers missing but windows says has latest drivers. Have disk for both LG drives but computer cant see drive to be able to run.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm sure everyone knows that Windows Sidebar can potentially destroy the amount of RAM that is available on your PC, but I'm having sort of an unusual problem with this. When Windows Sidebar is loaded, the amount of RAM that it occupies is about 20MB, which is certainly acceptable for me. However, after the course of 6 or so hours the RAM increases upwards of 120MB, and after 12 hours, nearly 200MB! This just doesn't seem right. I'm assuming Sidebar is stored some previous information via RAM, but I really can't see this information being necessary at all. Is there anyway I can put a cap on the amount of RAM that Sidebar uses? Or even some other method to reduce the RAM usage?

I can bring it up and add gadgets but they don't function properly and they only have an X on the right hand side (no magnifying glass to edit options). So basically, the sidebar works but the gadgets don't?? Some of the graphics will show up but they don't function...this is very frustrating and I've spent lots of time trouble shooting and trying to figure out possibilities

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been getting that message for a while. When I try to look at the Sidebar properties, which I find using the Start/Search feature, nothing opens. When I go to the Sidebar folder in C:/Program Files/Windows Sidebar, there are 3 items there: a subfolder labeled Gadgets, a Configuration Settings icon labeled Settings, and a Sidebar application icon. If I click on the application icon, I just get the "Windows sidebar is not working" message. All of this happened after a System Restore a couple of months ago.

I install a fresh copy of Vista 64-bit and every thing is working fine. after windows install all updates and become up to date my Windows Sidebar crashes and don't want to start. every time i try to run it i get an error message and this happen only after the updates but before it it's works fine so is there any way to make it run normally again?

A while ago I even removed one gadget at the time to see if it would stop crashing but it didn't. Yesterday I reformatted my computer because of another problem I had and one of the first things that happened was "windows sidebar stopped working". It happened again today. I still have almost only drivers and windows updates installed so what can be causing this problem?

I upgraded to the VX2235WM from the Benq FP72E (a 22" 16:10 and 17" 4:3 respectively) first on the 8800GTS 320MB, everything was fine, when one day, the desktop after loading Vista, just dissapeared, there was nothing, no wall paper/gadgets/taskbar/ icons...nothing, except for my mouse cursor, and by default a window "My documents" open, and showing contents. At first i was under the impression that it was my GPU/DVI cable/or the LCD, after 03 months (in pakistan there are NO consumer rights...so you fight or call in favours to RMA, and then get a new replacement piece) i got everything changed, still no dice......
i used the 163.04/09 and the latest WHQL 169.25....no display used the VX2235 drivers from MS update nad WHQL's from Viewsonic's website Changed the GPU to the 8800GT XFX, in the hope that just perhaps the
broken VC2 engine might be causing troubles, used the same..............

i have just created a new sidebar gadget and i am having problems when trying to install it. If i save it off as a .zip and then change extension to .gadget it looks okay but then when i click on it and click install it does nothing. But if i put the folder into SERPROFILE%AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindows SidebarGadgets it will show in my gadgets and i can use it, any ideas why when i put it to a .gadget file it wont install?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Internet was acting very very slow. My computer was running fast as it always does but the internet was just very slow. I than noticed that in the bottom right corner of my screen the little globe had gone away. when I scrolled over it, it read local only? About one minute later the globe came back and it read local and internet. Whats wrong here? Here is my setup- I have my desktop computer connected to a wireless router (protected) (only used for Playstation) the router is connected to my vonage device, and the vonage device is connected to the modem. I am on vista, I have charter communications as my isp and this is not the first time this has happened!In fact if I look in my firewall I sometimes see connection issues like these- IP address has dissapeared from adapter Nvidia Nforce 10/100 mbps ethernet is no longer being protected (IP address .....) then a few seconds later I will read protecting your connection to a newly detected network Nvidia N force 10/100 mbps (ethernet.......) this ethernet is different that the one that dissapeared.Then I will see other firewall logs with all these connections and all?? Im so confuced. I am 99.9 % sure I have not been hacked by a neighbor.

Sidebar has recently started using 50% + CPU. It runs from 0 to 50+ and back to 0 and back to 50+ and just keeps doing this. What would cause that?
