I just changed the letter on a external hard drive. Now the disk drive icon has dissapeared?? I tried to change it using a ico file, but nothing is working? It is still the same?? Does anyone know what has happened? or, tell me what to do? To get the image back?

View 5 Replies View Relatedi just bought My Book Essential 1 TB today... and when i got home i plug it and it works just fine but its bothering me that the HDD type is FAT32 .. so i format it and try to change it to NTFS.. but somethings happen and boom the electric in my apartment was down... and so when the electric back i want to format it again but i can't... there drive is detected but with no space detail... it says "Windows can't format Drive H: - Check to see that the disk and drive are connected properly, make sure that the disk is not read-only, and then try again.
For more information, search Help for read-only files and how to change them" when i open the Disk Management from (My COmputer > Manage) it seems it's already a volume.. but the weird thing there is no space detail.. and i cant erase the volume ... i've tried using diskpart but i can't do nothing because there is no volume and i can't erase the disk... no luck with fsutil cause its not ntfs... I havent tried 3rd party software and i havent tried it on other computer (don't have other computer right now) and WDC didnt give live cd for formatting because all of them was in the drive... though i already redownload it but the program is useless..
I recently fresh installed my Vista Premium x86 on my homebuilt, and I had all my data backed up on my flash. When I plug it in, Vista dings like normal, but it is not in Windows Explorer and Disk Management. The Drive did have some Code 10 Device Cannot Start problems, but those are worked out when I disabled it and re-installed the driver, and the drive DOES show up in 'Safely Remove Hardware' and the Device Manager. I kinda diagnosed that it doesnt have a Drive Letter assigned, due to the flash drive working in my XP x64 dual-boot.

This means double clicking doesn't open the file. I can however go to "open with" and open it that way.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I open up my computer one of the drive letters (E in the right pane has a 3DHA (3D Home Architect) icon in place of what should be a regular drive icon. I guess when I was test installing 3DHA, it somehow messed up that drive icon, though I have no idea why, but their web site offers no help. I've since removed the software but nothing I've tried will allow me to change the icon back to a regular drive icon. I prefer not to download a 3rd party program unless I have to. I've come across a few sites that offered some tips but everthing I've tried only changes the icon in the left pane. In fact the properties for the drive letter in the right pane don't even have a change icon button, anywhere.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI think it was after the updates loaded for windows incl. sp1 or after the vista patch for the game witcher which came from the microsoft site. Problem is that my optical drives dissappeared and the wireless adapter seemed to become D drive. Device manager says drivers missing but windows says has latest drivers. Have disk for both LG drives but computer cant see drive to be able to run.
View 6 Replies View Relatednot sure if im in the right place..but, Vista seems to have changed my second HD where I keep all my media into a CD Drive, the icon has changed to a CD drive icon in My Computer and the desktop shortcut now asks for a Disc to be inserted when I try to access it... The C drive remains unaffected. Anyone got a fix for this?.

It seems that my machine is displaying the same icon regardless of the CD or DVD I put into my DVD drive. At one time, I put a Windows XP installation CD in my DVD drive, and the CD/DVD drive icon was replaced by the HP logo. I put another software or game into my DVD drive and I still got the HP logo as the CD/DVD drive icon. So I tried emptying all of my Prefetch files from my Prefetch folder, and I thought I solved the problem when I put the Windows XP CD into the drive and got the regular Setup icon. But when I put a different CD into the drive, the same Windows XP Setup icon showed up. And when I right-clicked 'Properties' on the CD/DVD drive Icon, in some cases there is no icon in the upper-left-hand corner next to the name of the CD.

I multi-boot (Vista Ultimate SP2 on C: & D:, Windows 7 Ultimate on L: ) and the same strange icon appears in Windows Explorer in all the 3 systems I boot. That makes registry editing a question mark....where do I do it, if I do it?
I've run chkdsk and the volume is clean. This is a brand new computer and all was well until I used that drive for the first time yesterday when I backed up my files from my external drive to it.
Any suggestions anyone?
I would like to set some key folders to have icons that identify what is inside. So my Windows install folder would show a folder with the Windows logo in front. (I have the ICO for that.) But how do you do that? I found a folder that has such a specific icon, but I wasn't successful getting it to work. My example used an icon inside an EXE. My icon is a stand-alone ICO.

I have looked into the properties and location, channel and lun are all at 0. I can get the disk to run if I click on the DVD folder on the left handside.

I also set a ShowDriveLettersFirst key in the regedit. still, I can't see drive labels. but they are shown in a dialog box of "save as..." does anybody know the solution or reason of this? can't see drive labels these 3 pics. but they show in this mode. and in this one(save as...) The drive letters come first because of the tip that I tested. c: drive has no label.(means "local disk" in korean. ) d: drive's label is "DATA". You might already have an inkling. I upgraded to the VX2235WM from the Benq FP72E (a 22" 16:10 and 17" 4:3 respectively) first on the 8800GTS 320MB, everything was fine, when one day, the desktop after loading Vista, just dissapeared, there was nothing, no wall paper/gadgets/taskbar/ icons...nothing, except for my mouse cursor, and by default a window "My documents" open, and showing contents. At first i was under the impression that it was my GPU/DVI cable/or the LCD, after 03 months (in pakistan there are NO consumer rights...so you fight or call in favours to RMA, and then get a new replacement piece) i got everything changed, still no dice......
i used the 163.04/09 and the latest WHQL 169.25....no display used the VX2235 drivers from MS update nad WHQL's from Viewsonic's website Changed the GPU to the 8800GT XFX, in the hope that just perhaps the
broken VC2 engine might be causing troubles, used the same..............
My Internet was acting very very slow. My computer was running fast as it always does but the internet was just very slow. I than noticed that in the bottom right corner of my screen the little globe had gone away. when I scrolled over it, it read local only? About one minute later the globe came back and it read local and internet. Whats wrong here? Here is my setup- I have my desktop computer connected to a wireless router (protected) (only used for Playstation) the router is connected to my vonage device, and the vonage device is connected to the modem. I am on vista, I have charter communications as my isp and this is not the first time this has happened!In fact if I look in my firewall I sometimes see connection issues like these- IP address has dissapeared from adapter Nvidia Nforce 10/100 mbps ethernet is no longer being protected (IP address .....) then a few seconds later I will read protecting your connection to a newly detected network Nvidia N force 10/100 mbps (ethernet.......) this ethernet is different that the one that dissapeared.Then I will see other firewall logs with all these connections and all?? Im so confuced. I am 99.9 % sure I have not been hacked by a neighbor.

Does anyone know if an update is available to enable this drive to read DVD Ram. I have been searching, but cannot so far at least, come across an updated driver.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a San Disk 4GB Cruzer Micro thumb drive with U3 on it. I had orginally gotten the drive when I had a HP that was running Windows XP. It worked fine on that computer. Well the XP machine took a crap and was replaced with a Compaq that is running Vista Home. The drive was NOT inserted with the HP crashed. Now when I insert the Thumb drive into a usb port it lights up and shows in "my computer" as an Audio CD with a drive letter of "H". The Launchpad does not start and the password screen does not come up either. The directory of the drive only shows 1 file (which does not open) and there was aprox 1000 files on it before. San Disk has been no help and I have not been able to find anything on the internet that has helped. Oh did I mention that I have very little computer knowledge, .
I normally would not be to ticked about this but all the files on the drive are family photos, photo's of hunting trips etc. I know my fault for not saving them to a CD and relying on a thumb drive but I thought they were more reliable than this. Here is a little twist, I have another Sandisk thumb drive that was used with the XP machine but this one works on the vista machine! I havent been able to try the drive that I am having trouble with on another XP machine as I dont have access to one (work switched all computers to vista). I dont know if it is a formatting issue or what but I can not figure it out.
I would like to change the "Disk Drive Policies" (see attached screenshot). If I check the box "Enable write caching on disk" and "Enable advanced performance" and then click ok and after that I reopen the "Policies" again evrything is like it was before I made the changes. Is there anything I can do in order that the changes I make will be accepted and won't jump back to the previous settings?

I don't know how reformatting an actual reader would affect the device since every one at the Sony forum has only reformat their memory from the actual reader that has a reformat memory, you lose your books but all the Sony applications that runs the reader are still intact. Since I got this error, I've reformatted via the actual reader and still every time I plug my reader in my USB port, I get this error. I'm scared if I say yes that all the applications that makes the reader works will be wiped out. Here is the thread in the Sony Reader Forum of them trying to help me. View 9 Replies View RelatedMy CD/DVD drive (optical drive?) is not reading anything i put into it! It makes the same sounds that it always makes when I insert a new CD, but then nothing happens. It does not ask if I want to open it in Windows media player or any other program. So I tried opening all my programs manually, but still it does not show that anything is in the drive.
View 5 Replies View RelatedRecnetly I noticed I had a 4th hard disk drive instead of 3. The strange thing is that I can't remember adding one.. I just got my 2 internal hard disk drives and 1 external hard disk. But now it shows 4. Also, when I try to open this 4th hard disk it gives an acces denied error message. Also, I'm unaible to scan the hard disk. For my other hard disks, when I right click, I got the option to scan for virus. This option isn't in the list when I right click this new station. Here are the menu list by right clicking on the HDD's.
