I have just got a new machine with Vista Home 64 and when I click onto the D Drive which is my DVD player it informs me that D: application not found but it will show the icon from the disk or film. I have looked into the properties and location, channel and lun are all at 0. I can get the disk to run if I click on the DVD folder on the left handside.

Some of my avi files show a picture and some others show a black icon. I did not have this problem before. Before all my avi files show a picture. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (new version). I try Vista Codec but i can solve it. If you don't understand my english, one of the moderators please delete my post.

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, when I try to run Maya 2008 I keep getting this error: The application has failed to start because d3dx9_34.dll was not found. Well, thats a DirectX 9 DLL and so I am guessing I need DirectX 9 right? So I goto Microsofts DirectX site and get dxwebsetup.exe. But... I can't run it. I get this error: C:Windowssystem32advpack.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator.I hit ok, says it again, hit ok and get this message: Current logon user doesn't have the Administrator privilege. Please logon again as an Administrator or contact your Pc Administrator.
Well, I am the Admin and I have admin and even if I right click --> properties --> run as admin I get the same message... ok I figure I will just download the redistributable instead... I do that and I try to run the DXSETUP.exe and I get the same Admin error as teh web setup... I have no idea what is going on and now i am starting to get very angry... very very angry. This is the onyl problem I have had with Vista thus far... and it is the worste thing it could be, I need Maya...I am running Vista Ultimate x64 and the Maya version I am installing is Maya 2008 x64 designed to run on vista x64 so it's not that it is incompatible. mad.gif mad.gif
i had to reinstall pc to shop bought condition after a lot of errors which are now gone but when i try a install a shortcut to desktop and try to open it i always get a box opening saying application not found, tried the online help and in that it told me what to do, but to no avail. Also when i go to online help i can only see boxes with a red cross in it.

Whenever I browse through folders on my hd via an application like Photoshop or Internet Explorer, that application will lock up when I get into Documents. Whenever I make a 'New Folder' the folder icon does not show up and its this weird white thing. Almost all folders in Windows Explorer look like this and it's extremely annoying.

It really helped with a dialup connection - being able to see if the connection was active or not. In Vista, the modem icon is static and doesn't show anything other than the fact that there is an active connection. Does anyone know of a workaround to get an **activity** icon that works like the good old XP one?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI run and rely on Xara Xtreme Pro graphic software. I've used various versions for over 10 years and currently run v3.3 very successfully on my Vista Ultimate 32 bit machine. I get a number of errors at 99% install: these inform me that the files
which reside in c:/program files/common files/xara are "not found".
When I then try to run the installed program I get an "internal program error 2625.k.me.ps". If I then try to run v3.3 I get the same program error! To get back to a working version of v3.3 I've had to do a disk image restore.
I've disabled my AV (AVG Pro), spyware (Spyware Doctor & Windows Defender) and closed WinPatrol for good measure (it monitors registry access attempts). there is nothing there which I could imagine would cause a problem. I've even installed as an administrator but there's no change in the errors thrown up.
So today I'm enjoying my 2 day old Vista. I've had a crappy 2003 Compaq XP for EVER now, and I was happy to get a new computer, completely crappy OS or not. (Yes, I've heard the rumors about Vista, so I was prepared for lots and lots of hours of troubleshooting!) I want to look around and explore, so I click on my start menu. Nothing. The My Computer, Control Panel, etc etc etc is on there. But nothing. I click 'all programs', and it's all there. I tried to modify the settings on my start menu, I pressed OK and out of curiosity went back into my Start Menu settings to check-- And they were back to what they were before!!
My easy way out has always been, since my XP was crap, to completely restore my computer, suck it up, reinstall everything and start fresh. So I decided to add a new WinRAR .rar folder thing, put all my pictures in there, put it on Megaupload.com and download the file after I restore Vista. I right clicked. Went under 'New > (Empty)'.
I almost cried! My baby, my brand new vista, already encountering problems! I installed daemon tools, PHotoshop CS2, poweriso, AIM, itunes, basically my necessities, within the two day period. I turned my computer on, no problems. My norton preformed its scheduled scan this morning at 6am, and I had a trojan horse and it can't be repaired. I've had thousands of those on my old computer and it ran at full speed with no problems, but could this be the reason? I restarted it two, three hours ago so my daemon tools can finish installing, and that's when I realized my start menu and things were messed up. Also, when I went into my computer after I restarted, the theme was set on 'windows classic', my background was left untouched. I cannot drag and drop anything into the start menu. It says I can, but I can't. Desktop icons are fine. I also installed 16 or so updates because I guess my Vista isn't up to date-- It did it automatically. Also, links, pictures, etc, like 'My Computer', My 'C:' drive, 'My Pictures', pictures, music, etc in Folders, have a check mark beside them.
My home PC, running Vista and wired to the network, drops momentarily from my home network and looses the connection to the network printer. Usually happens when I click a link to a new page. An error comes up saying something like "page unavailable". I hit "refresh" and the page loads. I can sit at the PC and watch the network Icon in the system tray show up with a "red X" and then the red x disappears. The interesting thing is that my two laptops run wirelessly and wired to the network with out an issue. I am guessing it has to be something with the settings off myPC ethernet card? I tried updating drivers, but no new driver was available.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell laptop with Vista that is on it's 4th or maybe 5th hard-drive, in about 6 months. They keep crashing and Dell sends another. This time I am getting a 2000-0142 error code, which I believe is hard drive not found. Needless to say, it will not boot. It just has one of those endless cycles where it tries to boot and reaches a certain point, then tries to shut down and then reboot, it fails then....over and over again. I cannot get into safe mode. I can get into bios setup. Is there any way of saving the data that is on the hard drive, whether it is in the laptop or not? The Dell rep said something about an "enclosure?" What is that? With 98 and before, there was a "boot disk" Is there such a thing as a boot cd?

Would being on a USB connection call for the single setting, or master/slave? It is an EIDE drive. The prob I am having is that the USB driver installed ok, the drive shows up in Disk management as a healthy FAT32, with drive letter "F" assigned, but does not show up in Device Manager,Explorer or Computer. Would Vista install controllers automatically, or do I need to find

I've got an eSATA drive that I formatted NTFS on my XP installation. machine has removable drives & I run many OS's on the same machine. works fine on all (including Linux) *except* when I run Vista all updates including SP2. when I try to access drive it always comes up as unformatted. but if I schedule chdksk to run on it upon reboot...no problems found!

So what I want to know is how to save my Family Tree Makers files to it. And once I do that how do I know for sure it is opening from my new drive and not my computer C: drive? View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I open up my computer one of the drive letters (E in the right pane has a 3DHA (3D Home Architect) icon in place of what should be a regular drive icon. I guess when I was test installing 3DHA, it somehow messed up that drive icon, though I have no idea why, but their web site offers no help. I've since removed the software but nothing I've tried will allow me to change the icon back to a regular drive icon. I prefer not to download a 3rd party program unless I have to. I've come across a few sites that offered some tips but everthing I've tried only changes the icon in the left pane. In fact the properties for the drive letter in the right pane don't even have a change icon button, anywhere.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a WD 3,5 Hard drive and I bought I case so I could make it external. However, when I connect it to my laptop, running on Vista Home Premium x64 SP2 it does not work. The drive is seen by Vista (it shows up in the Disk Management section in Computer Management) but it does not show up in My Computer. In Disk Management it appears Disk 1, Dynamic, Invalid, with a red downwards arrow. As I have all my info there a soluyion that requires a format is not an option.

When I plug it into my laptop, I can not figure out how to change the view of it so I can just put one "picture" on the folder. I need to know what is in each folder by looking at one picture on the icon and for the life of me, I can not get it to work. I right click, go to customize and choose file. I pick what I want on there and then click apply and it does not work. I am at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas for me. I can get it to work on something that is internal but not the external.
