All of a sudden i cannot right click on the desktop, and i cannot get into the display settings, i get this message - Your system admin has disabled launching if the display settings control panel.
I logged into the Admin account right now, so surely i should be allowed to do this?
I can't get it to work. I tried running as administrator and no luck. I have a Asus G2 series gaming laptop-OS Vista Home premium 32 bit. The game installed great, but as soon as I click on the shortcut from the desktop it will flicker a black screen and just return me to my desktop. I tried putting my computer in a 800x600 resolustion and still didn't start it.

I want to do the two-monitor setup, so I plugged in my ATI video card as the second video driver. Problem: When I boot the machine, I get the following error: Incompatible display adapter has been disabled. At least one display adapter on the system has been disabled because its driver is not compatible with the driver for the VGA adapter.
What I find odd, though perhaps it is not odd to you, is that the internal driver was the one disabled - the ATI card is now defaulted as the main (and only enabled) driver. In Control Panel, it does not say that the drivers or controllers are disabled, but instead that there are problems. Clicking on Troubleshoot does nothing at all.
I'm using a USB tuner (Avermedia Volar x). It is compatible with Vista x64 (I'm using Ult). The tuner works fine, the tuner program works in Vista x64, channels are tuned in, and I can watch TV. However, I've just noticed, that if I leave power options on balanced (the default), the audio is fine. But, if I change it to power saver, the audio (when I watch TV on the tuner) goes out of sync. I tried changing USB settings to disabled (under advanced power settings (under power saver), no change the audio is still out of sync.

I have a problem with my Monitor Samsung Sync Master 2232 BW, I have been running this Monitor perfect using Windows XP. When I recently upgraded to Windows Vista Home Premium, what happens periodically when starting my PC, my monitor can not handle my display settings of 1680 X 1050, what I have to do is alter moniter display settings to 1280 X 1024, turn off PC, then restart PC then reconfigure back to 1680 X 1070 to get my display settings working again.
Although the drivers are 100% up to date, can you advise what may be causing this problem. As this getts annoying having to reset & restart to get settings correct. I have a Dell Dimension 9150 with 2gb memory & ATI Radeon X300 X550 X1050 Series video card Pentium CPU 2.80 ghz - CPU 2.79 ghz, 160 gb hard drive. Also periodically when booting up the monitor will not show anything on screen, dont know if it has not booted correct or monitor display not working.
i have windows vista ultimate 32bit version. i never had this issue until i downloaded the "windows vista updates" "nvida driver"

I run Vista on a laptop and have a 2nd monitor hooked up via a docking station. I set my 2nd monitor (i.e. not the laptop screen) as my main monitor, however, after every restart Vista always reverts back to the Laptop as the main monitor. How can I stop Vista reverting backto the Laptop as the main monitor? (This happens aven though at no stage have I un-docked the laptop!)

I can set it to use both monitors or extend to the other monitor.. all perfect But everytime the computer is switched off and on again.. it loses this setting and the display appears to clone similar on both screens.. so have to go on display settings and reset the display to "extend my desktop"

But when I right click the desktop and choose 'new' I don't see a Word document as one of the options. Excel. Access, Publisher etc are there but not the one I need most often - and which i had before the restore. Anyone have any ideas on getting it back?

I have lost, for some reason, the Create a Desktop Short cut from my right click context menu.
I tried one thing and all I got was the Desktop icon on my Desktop. I did more searching but can NOT find: "the file *Desktop (create shortcut)* from the Default user folder."
I went to my User folder and there is no such item. Am I looking in the wrong area?
The subject says "on desktop" only because I haven't looked for signs of this problem elsewhere yet. The problem seems to manifest itself in different ways. I'll describe the most obvious way, and if there's no response, I'll try to describe other symptoms as best I can; although the more I experiment, the more it's starting to look as though I'm zeroing in on something -- I know not what.
After a Restart, a single-click on one of my desktop icons will highlight that icon, but it will also highlight the bottom-rightmost (BR) icon. This was discovered because the typical double-click was causing execution of the BR icon, and not the selected one. If I moved the BR icon up higher on the desktop and tried again, the new BR icon would behave the same way. This happens regardless of which icon I select. It seems that the problem goes away as soon as I successfully call a program and I leave the desktop. The problem returns after a restart.
Recently I've noticed that when I right click on certain files or the desktop, that it would load the context menu after about 1 second. I know this isn't much but it should not take that long for something that small. I went ahead and removed many items from the context menu and the desktop and all other files load the context menu almost instantly. My problem is that .exe files still take 1-2 seconds to load their context menu. I tried removing almost ALL the options in the context menu.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSuddenly basic things stopped working. The screen settings after right-clicking on desktop won't appear. Just a blank window for a second and then it's gone completely. I can't run the screen settings from control panel, either. Clicking on games shortcut in Start menu won't work, too. Some of the icons in Control Panel don't respond at all after double-clicking them.
Firstly, I thought it might be caused by some software I installed, so I ran system restore to a point a week old. After restoring the system everything went fine, so I installed necessary aplications again and still, everything was fine. After a few days the problem reappeared, there was no installation or other input from me. I checked out the restore points and there was something like "Uninstalling the language package" restore point. So I restored the system again using this point. And it worked fine. However, after a few days the same thing happened with the same sypmtoms mentioned above. I started to think about some virus.
The computer has the latest NOD and I made sure it's up to date. I also scanned the system using latest Spybot and everything was fine, except one entry that was fixed. Still, the problem remained. After that I tried to install all the latest Vista updates that haven't been installed already. Still no change. So now I haven't got a clue what causes the problem. I thought it's something changing the registry because really, the simplest tasks like running the screen settings don't work. But there's no spyware or virus (as far as I'm concerened). Just now when I'm writing this post my sister told me that the touchpad scroll feature stopped working. This is really weird.
I have my desktop set up the way I like it and have my icons grouped in different parts of the screen and in an order that I like. Every so often, something happens like an error or booting into safe mode that sends all my icons to be aligned together starting in the upper left of my screen. Then I have to put them back in order. There appears to be some order in which they're realigned, but the order isn't consistent between the groups. How can I create a backup of my desktop display so that I won't have to move every icon back into place manually? Is there a file somewhere that I can copy back into place when this happens?

Broadband speeds. I know it's easy to learn what the current speed at a
particular moment is by using one of the many people on the web providong
that service. What I cannot find and would find useful if I had it would be a
display - rather like the clock at the bottom RH corner, for instance. A
display that would show constantly what the speed is, or failing that, by
reacting to the cursor being on it.
Whenever I access a particular application, a message box tells me that "A program can't display a message on your desktop." The details on the message box say that there is a partial incompatibility with Vista. I can close the message box, but it continues to pop up every few minutes. The application program seems to work fine, however. The message box is just incredibly annoying!!! My Windows services are set for "Interactive Services" to use the "Manual" Startup Type, but the status is currently started. MY QUESTION: Is this simply a notification box only? Will stopping or disabling this service cause any security problems.... or will it simply halt the notifications?

I'm trying to change the way a wallpaper is displayed on the desktop (i.e. Stretch, Tile, Centred) but I can't. The wallpaper is always displayed stretched out and I can't change it to be tiled or centred.
The way I'm doing this (to no avail) is obviously to right-click the desktop, then choose "Personalize", then click on "Desktop Background", then click one of the three radio buttons at the bottom (in this case, either of the two on the right), then click "OK".

View 6 Replies View RelatedI got a Nvidia 8400GS When i got the PC but brought a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 / 1GB / PCI Express 2.0 / Graphics Card. My brother took out the Nvid card and then formated the PC to make sure that all drivers where uninstalled then put the ATI card in. In divice manager under dispaly adapters there is standard VGA Graphics Adapter and further down the page there is "Other Divices" with Video controller. When it installs these some times the standard VGA Graphics Adapter fail but the video controller succeed but with error. saying. "Incompatable display Adapter has been disabled. At least one display adapter on the system has been disabled because its not compatible with the driver for the VGA adapter". lso i carnt change the resolution above 1024X768. Also my Graphic card is a Sapphier brand but in the windows update its looking for ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ASUS EAH3870X2 Series
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse which work really well but when I reboot, the keyboard shortcuts that I have programmed don't work until I go into properties and click on them and then click ok. The keys then work ok until I reboot again.Is there any way that I can programme the changes so they are the default programmes whenever I reboot. The software loaded fine and I clicked on apply and save when I originally set the keys.....I have a HP Pavilion DV6700 Laptop with windows visa home premium which is about one month old.

I have a problem with the security settings in IE7. Everytime I reboot my settings change and I have to restore them. I have the settings set in custom level to allow programmatic clipboard access but it disables that and some other settings after a reboot. what I can do to make my settings stick?
