Dual Monitor Display Settings Revert On Startup
May 7, 2008I run Vista on a laptop and have a 2nd monitor hooked up via a docking station. I set my 2nd monitor (i.e. not the laptop screen) as my main monitor, however, after every restart Vista always reverts back to the Laptop as the main monitor. How can I stop Vista reverting backto the Laptop as the main monitor? (This happens aven though at no stage have I un-docked the laptop!)

Apr 23, 2010I added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

Jun 10, 2009Maybe there's a fix this somewhere deep in the forums - I just can't find it. And I've read in other forums the same problem but no one seems to have the fix. Just got a new computer - HP with Vista Home Premium 64bit. Video card is ATI Radeon HD4850 with two DVI outputs. I have twin Acer V223W monitors connected with DVI cables.
I can figure out how to set them up in Vista, and also in ATI Catalyst, setting the default and extending the desktop and all that. I had been running dual monitors like this for years on my former XP machine. My problem is, each time Vista goes to sleep, or hibernates, and even on some restarts it reverts back to clone mode. HUGE pain in the butt.
Display Settings Not Stable
Jun 19, 2008I have 2 problems & maybe they are connected..I hope I have put in correct forum. I have a problem with my Monitor Samsung Sync Master 2232 BW, I have been running this Monitor perfect using Windows XP. When I recently upgraded to Windows Vista Home Premium, what happens periodically when starting my PC, my monitor can not handle my display settings of 1680 X 1050, what I have to do is alter moniter display settings to 1280 X 1024, turn off PC, then restart PC then reconfigure back to 1680 X 1070 to get my display settings working again.
Although the drivers are 100% up to date, can you advise what may be causing this problem. As this getts annoying having to reset & restart to get settings correct. I have a Dell Dimension 9150 with 2gb memory & ATI Radeon X300 X550 X1050 Series video card Pentium CPU 2.80 ghz - CPU 2.79 ghz, 160 gb hard drive. Also periodically when booting up the monitor will not show anything on screen, dont know if it has not booted correct or monitor display not working.

Feb 1, 2009The onboard adapter is an ATI Radeon x1250 and the second adapter is an ATI HD2400. When I connect 4 monitor, everytime I shut down or restart my pc I loose all my settings. The second monitor is always disabled and put at the left side of my primary monitor. I installed catalyst 9.1 drvers and the pc is a Lenovo Thinkcentre A61 9143-CTO.

Mar 8, 2009sometimes and more than ever its doing it now, when I turn on my computer the screen just stays blank. Most times when I turn it off and on again it will recognize it then work fine, but as of lately it can take 10+ times. When it does this and you turn it off, it does flash the Analog and Digital box in the top left corner, meaning its recognizing it but it still wont work when computer is turned on again. Im thinking the problem is something to do with the Digital/Analog setting on my monitor, or something in the settings?

Dec 5, 2008I run a dual Monitor set-up and that has been fine with previous drivers. Since installing 180.48 yesterday, when I reboot or start-up, it all defaults to a single monitor and messes up my icons. Fault appears to be on the NVIDIA part of things, as it loses the tick in the second Monitor under the NVIDIA Control Panel "Set Up Multiple Displays". It doesn't lose the tick in "Do Not USe SLI Config".

I have done something that causes the shutdown options icon (the blue arrow point on the start menu bar) to be "chopped off" so to speak and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to resize it. May 15, 2010I have an hp laptop model 6730B running windows XP pro.. I have two monitors attached to it through the dockign station It works perfect.. I can set it to use both monitors or extend to the other monitor.. all perfect But everytime the computer is switched off and on again.. it loses this setting and the display appears to clone similar on both screens.. so have to go on display settings and reset the display to "extend my desktop"

May 7, 2009I'm using the onboard intel graphics with the VGA out to my VGA display. This problem has only started happening within the last 20-ish days or so. The display will periodicly flash black for a secound & then back on again? it's almost like changing your screen resolution but with no apparent resizing taking place, although it does seem to happen mostly when I expand windows more than any other time. Everything still carrys on as normal on the computer when this display blackout happens.
I have tested my ram with memtest to rule out ram problems as it's new. I'm not getting any errors to suggest theres some ram issues or any related symptoms for ram associated problems. anyway & it's now past 3 memtest sessions with no errors. I have also carried out orhtos & prime95 test just to stress the Ram & CPU to see if I got any errors reported with nothing reported. Only once did a blackout happen during testing when I was maximizing a window but the test reported nothing?

Jun 11, 2009Im buying this Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor. Its my first lcd , my lovely superbright diamondtron mitsubishi has finally bitten the dust. Ive done a bit of research and this is the monitor for me. problem is i know lcd's display best at their native resolution and for most things ill be running at at 1680x1050 , however with my current rig (and my upgrade being pushed back due to needing a new monitor) ill struggle to game at this res. so will it look/perform ok at 1280x1024 ingame? until i upgrade?

Apr 19, 2008I've baught a notebook pc. It has T8300 CPU, and Intel GMA 3100 Graphics. The battery has for cells and it says its capacity is 2400mAh. With Windows Vista x64, I did some normal tasks such as surfing the internet a little and some file copying, application installing. But the big problem is the battery life. After fully charged the battery, I could only use about 1 hour and half. I've searched the internet and found that the main culprit is the Aero interface. So, I guess, using Vista Basic when in battery mode, and Aero when in A.C. mode would be more reasonable. Manually changing between them in "Personalization -> Show classic..." is quite a task. Is there any easier way? How do you save battery?

Nov 25, 2008I did a search for this and even though I found different threads about it, I couldn't understand some of the fixes so I am hoping I can bother some of you folks to walk me through it one more time. As you can see in my PC specs, I use a 22" Acer Widescreen LCD monitor, my native resolution is 1680 x 1050. I have my desktop icons set in different places of my monitor, games in one place (right top hand corner), apps in another place (center top of screen), etc, etc, etc.
My problem is that if and when I decide to change my resolution for whatever reason, when I put it back to the native res, some of the desktop icons have dissapear from the screen. Up to now, the only way to make them appear again is by going into Safe Mode, uninstalling my video drivers, restart, install my driver again, reboot and Presto... they are there but this is getting to be annoying and well, I know there is a simpler way to fix this.............
Uninstall Without Loosing Data?
Mar 23, 2008I have this itching feeling to try and see how my system runs on Vista x86-64. For that I _WANT_ to do the following. If I can't do it the way I want it, I want to uninstall Windows Vista x86-32 without re-formatting/repartioning my primary HDD partition where Vista is currently installed. This way I can proceed to install Vista x86-64 without having to worry about my Movies, Audio and Video data already on the drive getting wiped out! Can it be done? Oh, btw, the current install is a fresh, clean install about 4 months old, and the 2 OS [xp and vista] are oblivious to one another [i.e., i dont have an OS choice menu. To boot into Vista, I select my 160 GB at boot-up and for XP, I select my 40GB]. And, I would like my Vista x86-64 to follow in the same footsteps.

Apr 7, 2008Periodically I lose my network connection within Vista Ultimate (only since SP1). I tether my cell phone to my laptop PC. The cellular connections remains ON using 3G network. The connection drops for maybe 45 seconds and I can hear the laptop hard drive churning away. Based on another discussion I unchecked the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) but that has not solved the issue.

Mar 30, 2009I'm having with a latop, where after a while it will lose connection to the internet and network. We setup brand new SBS 2008 network, we joined all the computers (windows xp, servers 2003 and 2 vista business pc) to the network without any issues. One of the laptops was running Home premimun 64bit (which it used to connect to the network without any issues) and needed to be upgraded. After upgrading this laptop to Vista Business 64bit and joined to the network, I noticed that after about 30 to 45 minutes the laptop keep loosing connectivity to the internet and only had limited connection, at this point we can see our network nor can we reset the adapter.
1) I tried to view the connections properties but it hangs, after I reboot the laptop, I get connection to the internet but after a while it will lose connection again.
2) I even reformated the hard drive, reinstalled the OS, thinking I had some files corruption or something was not setup properly the first time...I downloaded the latest nic drivers, chipset from Dell. I also disable the Wireless card just to see if it was a conflict, but this has not fix the issues...........
Fixing System Loosing Photos
Jan 27, 2010I tried fixing my gf's laptop and ended up loosing all of her photos.
-basically she has a HP laptop running vista
-she wanted me to clean up her laptop so I remove several things in add/remove program
-one of them maybe MS SQL express that comes pre installed
-now, on her desktop she used to have a lot of folder with irreplacable memories
-but now its no longer there
-when I do a search for the name of the folder ex "2009"
-I see it appear but I can not open it, it says missing shortcuts
-it looks like its a .lnk file and everytime I try to open it, its missing shortcuts

In short, not something we disabled folks can use effectively or efficiently. I'll bet business productivity is truly terrible if everyone has my experience. I can't even get MSN to recognize my spelling dictionary from Office 2007. Vista's just not a good product from my standpoint.

Monitor Goes To Sleep
Sep 28, 2009Recently I have bought a gaming PC, and after a few hours of such
gaming, my monitor goes to sleep, the PC is still running and I can
still be playing my game. just without a monitor!
The only way to get the monitor to work is to restart the PC.
Any ideas what the problem could be? At first I suspected an
overheating Graphics card, but could it be other things? could it be a
RAM problem? what could cause this? Has anyone else had this problem?
I would like to make it very clear that it is not a problem with Vista,
or its power settings, as the computer remains runnings. It is also very
unlikely to be the monitor as I bought it new yesterday.
